How plausible is the idea of terraforming the sahara or any other desert
Somewhat plausible, if we get a metric crap load of soil, desalinate water from the ocean and grab some tropical plants, it may just work. Also reversing global warming will add to the effect.
>>8773830
Damn near impossible, and a stupid idea too. It's a desert for a reason; their geographical location with respect to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and global weather patterns starve the area of moisture and perpetuate an environment unsuitable for vegetation and large animal population.
>>8773830
Since terraforming means to make an environment more Earth-like, and since desserts one part of the environment on Earth, I'd say it would be remarkably easy.
1: Locate dessert
2: Do absolutely nothing.
3: ?????

Why is it not more likely that mathematicians need to reexamine their previous assumptions and proofs than that thus obviously false statement is true?

It is a better option
You're free to try to reinvent the wheel tho, no one is stopping you. Oh wait, it's fucking hard? That's the way the rest of them feel like.
Because it might be true even if it doesn't make any goddamn sense yet.

The conjecture can be summarized as follows. Take any positive integer n. If n is even, divide it by 2 to get n / 2. If n is odd, multiply it by 3 and add 1 to obtain 3n + 1. The conjecture is that no matter what number you start with, you will always eventually reach 1.
First,
I would like to point out that we could also use
If odd : a*n+1 where a equals any positive integer
Here's an example with n+1
11 -> 12 -> 6 -> 3 -> 4 -> 2 -> 1 -> 2 -> 1
Okay so if we take a look at parity we can see that
For addition
odd + odd = even;
For multiplication
odd × odd = odd;
thus
if odd : 3n+1
if odd : 3n+1 ( odd * odd ) + odd = even;
if odd : replace with even;
if even : n/2
Since the definition of an even number is n = 2k where k = positive integer
n/2 = k
k < n
k will always result in a smaller positive integer.
The smallest natural number is 1.
Am I missing something?
>Am I missing something?
You didn't make a claim.
If you're implying that because of the succession you'd necessarily end up with 1, you're mistaken. Time 3 followed by times 0.5 gives you an average that's still a factor of 1.5, so it's not evident that you eventually fall far
>If odd : a*n+1 where a equals any positive integer
Sorry I mean to say "where a equals any positive odd integer"
>>8773726
>Take any positive integer n.

Alright /sci/, let's talk about this disorder, why is it getting more commom? Why does it even happen? What's the most efficient treatment?
> 21
> Got my first panic attack at 15
> I could swear I had a heart disease or some shit, felt chest pain, dormant hands, and a lot of simptons
> Check my heart with every possible exam, it's 100% fine
> Start taking flouxetine, it works, the disorder stopped
> 2 years later I stop the flouxetine treatment
> 1 year later (today), I think it's coming back (getting paranoid over some vertigo with ear buzz
> The cycle will repeat as I will accumulate those death fears
> The cycle starts again
How to I fix this shit? Must I take flouxetine forever?
>>8773684
You have either Bipolar or Autism, nigga.
>>8773688
> the state of /sci/
>>8773684
Find out what causes it. Eliminate those causes.
Need for flouxetine is diminished as cause is removed.
In my case, the cause was general social noise. Whether it be from TV or phone or people, if the information was social in nature, my brain would start overloading and shutdown. So I stopped most of the causes or minimized it to controlled degree. These panic attacks/anxiety have largely stopped. However the "negative" is I don't socialize with people and can't convey higher sets of emotion.
There's a chance it could be autism, but I don't really care about that since there's no real "fix" for autism.

Desmos.com is great.
>half of America trusts Breitbart more than they trust NASA
How is it possible for such a developed country to be THIS scientifically illiterate? And how do we fix this?
You will never be able to fix this for the same reason religion is so hard to eradicate from people's minds. We are wired to hold irrational beliefs. Most of us are for sure. Luckily, science has been able to progress despite our nature.
>>8773370
I believe both. AMA.

What does this board think of veganism?
And why is it a shitty cult?
>>8773048

I hate that idiots sometimes make the right choices, too. but just because some people treat it like a shitty cult doesn't make it inherently a shitty cult.
humans naturally eat meat. modern humans maybe eat too much meat but it is good for you in moderation
Using the multiverse theory, could there be a universe where multiverses don't exist? If not, then are multiverses finite?
A universe exists within a multiverse, a multiverse doesn't exist within a universe.
Multiverses are infinite.
>>8773031
Which multiverse theory?
The only one (I think) that requires infinite possibilities is the Many-Worlds interpretation of QM.
They are infinite, and it's basically like a loaf of bread. Sure there are empty places inbetween the slices and there are air bubbles. You can think of those as membranes.
M String theory is basically talking out your ass though.
What kind of experiments and investigations would you conduct if you could use the facilities at CERN?

Somebody want to explain to me how mammals evolved to fly? How the fuck does that work?
Mammals and reptiles come from the same lineage.

No shit, what environmental pressures caused them to fly. And don't say convergent evolution.
It's like saying we can build spaceships because we are related to lizard. U r dum

i doubt it's more than a few genes before a human hand looks superficially like a bat wing, but it took time for other sytems to evolve

Is there anything you've recently learned that you should've known from a young age?
I just now learned that every positive integer greater than 1 can be expressed as the product of 1 or more prime numbers.
I should've spent more time with my father.
