'Presentism', The past and future are just vague approximations that originate from our imaginations.

What sort of physical, cognitive impact does listening to music have on your brain?
11 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
it not only strengthens preexisting connections but builds new ones as well, and if the volume is high enough you can at least in my experience cross entire centers of activity and create or use connections that result in types of synesthesia. so it's probably more important than you think if it can involve the fusing of lobes.

>if the volume is high enough
wtf did he mean by this?
how do you go about using music to create and/or strengthen connections that are relevant outside of music listening?

all I've heard about music so far is a memeish study that it affects your dopamine levels in a manner similar to a heroin high

Is Physics a meme degree? Why is it often considered a top degree on here on par with engineering. Isn't it just a degree you study if you want to teach it, like history?

The idea of a meme degree is a meme. Shut the fuck up and pursue your passions. Anyone who tells you otherwise probably hasn't been jobless after completing a degree they didn't want.

Also, physics has insane applications. lrn2Google, mate.

literally because of average IQ by major charts and seeing Physics at the top in every single one.

you can't do anything with a bachelors in physics.

Did you fall for the basic income meme? Do you actually think AI and automation will progress so far that we'll be able to let humans do whatever they want?

If humans have nothing to do and have no competition then they become mentally and physically weak. It's a shit societal structure that allows all problems to be solves like that. Humanity must struggle for eternity or it will regress

do you not know what the word 'basic' in 'basic income' means brainlet?
>>
People always compete against themselves, if everyone is on UBI, they will compete in something else just so they can be more superior than others.

People will still train physically and mentally just for the sake of it, even if not then who fucking cares, strength comes from need, if there are no needs then it doesnt matter we are all weak and only live to shitpost on the Internet.
>>
It's sad how many people think UBI can actually work. Granted the vast majority are college students and NEETs desperately hoping for gibmedats but still, everyone should have some knowledge of basic economics. Money itself is worthless, literally. All that matters is the shit you can buy with money, and it's finite. Giving everyone money doesn't work because nobody wants money, they want the things you can buy with money, and the system will always reach an equilibrium.

People need to produce things of value, that is what makes money worth what it is, because it's tied to value production. If you have a whole caste of people creating no value then the money they have ceases to be worth anything at all

Because the goal of boot caps is to turn you into a "vocational" programmer that can churn out apps and office tools like a factory conveyor belt. Not to teach computer science.
I did one of these myself after leaving HS.

However right now I'm working through SICP and it made me realize the difference between a programmer and and computer scientist.
I'm finally starting to get an intuitive understanding of things like tree recursion.
I like the elegance of scheme and I'll definitely will try Haskell soon.

Okay there has been this recent hype about the compound NAD+ One of the energy carrying molecule in cells. It supposedly reverses aging in mice and helps a DNA repair but how? Is this for real /sci/ or some hyped up nonsense
15 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
the very richest will make use of it, even if the effects are minimal
>>
I don't believe it reverses ageing, I do believe, however, that you can somehow (almost) achieve a steady state (aka, no more ageing, or very slowly)
NAD+ also is an anti-oxidant, and instead of being important in other processes it kind of wonders off doing other things than it's supposed to, depleting itself for other (more important) processes.
>>
>>8783651
sounds like some hyped up nonsense. The way I see it, the correlation between the amount NAD+ and age is due to the fact that as we age less and less cells divide (cellular division requires a shit ton of ATP). Because less ATP is needed by a cell that is done dividing, less carrier molecules are needed by the cell for ATP synthesis.

If pumping an old cell (that souldn't be dividing anymore) with NAD+ catalyzes/induces cellular replication, then this will give off a more youthful appearance, but won't change the condition of chromosomes (specifically the telomeres) it's replicating. Meaning you'll look younger, but your chances of developing cancer will probably skyrocket.

How could it be an overkill? You get nice desktop app aswell. If you pay thousands of dollars for your education, you should use one hundred to a good calculator that last your lifetime.

>>
>complain about having to learn math and science

Its hard because its hard to force yourself to remember things you have no practical use for.

If I locked you in a room every day for an hour with a sheet of paper covered in random letters and numbers, and told you to memorize them and recite them back to me on the test it would be pretty hard.
