How would a silicon based metabolism even work?

The idea is that silicon could replace carbon because it has the same valence.
>>
>>8910819
The problem is that Silicon is much larger and does not allow for as much variance and complexity as Carbon.

How the fuck is blood delivered to every cell in the body? how is it delivered and absorbed? is there something between capillaries and cells? do blood vessels connect to each cell? or does blood just float inside the body and the cells are floating in it and absorb nutrients through the membrane?
please help me understand I beg you

blood isn't delievered to every cell
blood is delivered to tissues
your blood is composed of cells and plasma and water
what do you mean between capillaries and cells? your capillaries are also made of cells
>>
>>8910429
Yeah but aren't those tissues made of cells? Do the tissues themselves distribute that blood among its constituent cells or what?

I mean, how does blood reach every cell in the body every time it's pumped. How does it reach every cell in the body. I don't understand this.

Ok, blood is inside blood vessels, it doesn't just float around. There's a good picture in wikipedia showing the map of blood vessels in the human body (pic related).

Blood isn't "delivered to cells", blood is partly made up of cells. Blood is made up of plasma (the liquid that you associate with blood), and red and white blood cells. Plasma and the suspended red/white cells contain minerals and nutrients that need to be transported to tissues. The tissues are represented by the non-colored parts of the body shown in the pic. The interaction with the tissues happens through endothelial cells. Think of a vein/artery or a blood vessel, the blood is flowing through it but the vessel is surrounded by tissues that need nutrients. Endothelial cells are the cells that line these vessels, they are special because they can facilitate transport of nutrients by absorbing them and dispersing them into the tissues. This can happen by forming miniscule vesicles inside them and exocytosing them, or through simple diffusion, where nutrients in high concentration (aka nutrients in the blood liquid) automatically move into cells with lower concentration of nutrients (the endothelial cells that form the wall lining of those vessels). There are many other ways of transport but you get the idea.

I figured I'd come here because I feel like this would pertain many interested in Science and Math.

Anyways, My dad and I have a CNC mill in our basement which we use for our business and his work. I came up with this idea; why don't we use the CNC to craft custom designs that people need for their projects but cannot do because of the extensive costs of buying a durable CNC mill. Essentially make a business out of our CNC.

My question to you is, do you people think I have a market for this. Along with yourself, is there anyone who would need a quick, relatively low cost solution to custom design production?

Why has there been very little advancements in battery size/usage ratio? computers shrink and get stronger but batteries seem to be the main limiter of this stuff.

because every time they make a better battery they already have a screen / Processor /other hardware that is ready to use the extra power in the same amount of time as the previous model..

but that makes the battery drain faster, I'm saying why aren't there phones like today's phones with the battery of a Nokia? The battery isn't advancing as fast as everything else is my problem.

What is even nothing? Nothingness might just be a fallacy invented by the primate mind. None of us cannot even imagine what nothing is like.

Nothing is not the same as empty space, or a vacuum.

I need some help regarding self study in the summer and future courses. My next course in mathematics since i will be transferring to university will be this engineering math course in pic related. The two texts in pic related are what i have downloaded to start in my self study. Are these two textbooks good enough cover me for this future course?

After the previous course I will have to take link related http://www.uh.edu/nsm/math/undergraduate/courses/math3363/ and I don't know how good that textbook will be, also what is your opinion on the textbook?

Finally I will have to take a 4000 level course in math to graduate, I am planning on taking this http://www.uh.edu/nsm/math/undergraduate/courses/math4335_6/ to get my math minor so i can graduate. The bad thing is that I have read unsatisfactory reviews regarding the textbook used in the course. And so i came across this textbook https://www.amazon.com/Partial-Differential-Equations-Bleecker-University/dp/1571460365/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_14_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=GNKSVZW803J2GWHY3T83 and I have since downloaded it. If I can get your opinion on this text i would really appreciate it.

I mean the content in those is so trivial that you don't really need to think about it so the book shouldn't matter.

I made a thread on 4chan, but I want to ask about /Sci/'s opinion.

So, Sci, are Designer Babies good or bad?
What are some pros and cons?
Where might this go?

Incredibly good for the individual, neutral-ish for the family unit, good for business / corporations, horrible for political stability and societal progress.

When the uber-rich are literally superior to the poor in every way: attractiveness, intelligence, drive, athletic ability, etc then the poor will turn to violence that much more in a desperate attempt to remain relevant and impact society. To gain any kind of control or power of their own.
>>
>>8910015
define good
define bad
define designer babies
define its implementation, if there are state regulations
define the society, its collective attitude
define international relations, political pressure

this argument can't be made in a vacuum

Honestly, it's always going to be like this because there's very few people that can properly discuss science online. The only way to fill the first page with more science threads is for the mods to constantly purge and ban all the /pol/ and /b/ shit, but that's a bit too authoritarian I think, and its positive effect on /sci/ is ambiguous.

Things would be better if /pol/ was given a /furry/ treatment

You go into their threads and pretend you are the most hardcore SJW and trigger them. Just today I have made like 10 posts calling out for the genocide of all white people. AND I'M WHITE. Ooh and it gets them bad. Real bad. I've been asked to go to reddit three times just today. And here is how you trigger them more: DON'T GO TO REDDIT AND INSTEAD REPLY TO THEM TALKING ABOUT MORE WHITE GENOCIDE

It is amazing. /pol/ is God's blessing on this site.

>ethics thread
Same thing. Shitpost about white genocide. Trigger them babies.

>underaged /b/ tier thread
Oh, they are another gem. In homework threads what you do is Latex very carefully and neatly a completely wrong solution. You do it in latex so it looks serious as fuck so that they buy it. If it is not a homework thread or if they don't buy it then insult them for being a retard and watch them cry like the autists they are.

>crossboarder looking for information
If it is homework related, troll them. I just remembered, telling to go to /hm/ is also a fucking classic. But if it is not homework then why not help them. Who cares.

>/b/
Same thing as with underage people. Even legal age /b/ posters have the brain of a toddler so you treat them like children and have some fun.

Is it just me, or do a really large amount of proof's in higher level maths involve really elaborate tautological statements?
You know, stuff that essentially boils down to, this thing exists because it does kinda thing.
I'ts hard for me to think of a specific example while I'm writing this up but I'm sure there are a few you can think of.

Tbh, math is circular reasoning. It just happens to be extremely useful circular reasoning. There is nothing wrong with that, as long as it is consistent.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/could-planetary-protection-scuttle-otherworldly-exploration/

Why is planetary protection a thing?

Surely Mars and Earth have 'contaminated' each other for billions of years via meteorites? This just seems like a bureaucratic excuse to delay human exploration.

>>8909737
This sounds like political correctness on a planetary scale.

I'm pretty sure we contaminated the moon back in space travels youth yet nothing bad happened in the end.

If the bureaucratic wall really delays human exploration, I would implore people to take their own measures to explore the universe.

No, it's just a handful of trolls and a bunch of redditers/fedoras fall for the bait every single time since they are so autistic they seriously believe there are creationists and flat earthers here.
