ITT we take (to some extent, well known) formulas in math / science and rewrite them in an unconventional but still mathematically valid way, and other's try and guess what formula/law it is. I'll go first. Pic related.

Inferior to Shankar.
>>
>>8923495
You're thinking of the wrong book, I think. Modern Quantum mechanics would be the equivalent to Shankar's book (though I agree that Shankar is better).

Sakurai's advanced QM is, iirc, basically a dated presentation of quantum electrodynamics. there's nothing wrong with this, but you would be better off reading a modern QFT book.

You're right I was thinking of that. My bad.

Surely it is not beyond the wit of scientists to invent something tastes like chocolate but has zero or almost zero calories. Could anyone explain to me why this hasn't been done yet?
65 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>>8921175
Because fat people are typically too dumb for science, and they're the only people who care about this issue.
>>
>>8921177
But think of all the money you could make from selling zero calorie chocolate to fat people which could be spent on colonizing Mars or whatever.

Why do guitar players believe that the different materials, mass, body shape, finishing on the wood, and other insignificant things used on an electric guitar influences its sound more than the electronics used or the technique of the player or just how the guitar is set up?

If you take the strings off of a guitar and make the body vibrate while plugged in, you get no sound because they are not microphonic. If you put the guitar against a large piece of wooden furniture and play, these people's logic would imply the guitar would sound louder or just different, but it would do nothing to the sound. How you hold the guitar would change the sound of it if these idiots were correct.

How are people so easily hooked on to these beliefs? It's clearly the guitar industry trying to make people believe this pseudoscience so they can say that's why a guitar is better than another and increase the price significantly.

These people think that they can hear between guitars based on the wood finish. That's literally audiophile-tier idiocy. You can find videos on YouTube of people who made guitars with cement bodies that sound perfectly fine.

I just don't understand the stupidity of such a large group of people.

The shape, density etc. of the different parts of the guitar determine the output of the electric guitar, the body absorbs the energy before it's transmitted.

Do you think you can throw the innards of an Electric Guitar onto a toilet and sound the same?
>>
>>If you take the strings off of a guitar and make the body vibrate while plugged in, you get no sound

..?

Electric Guitars work by amplifying the changing EM field caused by the string vibrating in that field.
If there is no string vibrating, there is no change.
The materials of the guitar change the way the string vibrates and any change in the way the string vibrates changes the sound of the guitar.

That is why Gibsons sound different than Fenders.

The electronics play an important part, but without the unique vibration of the string, you end up with a synthesizer and a manufactured sound, not a guitar.

Is this going to fuck me over for the rest of my life?

We all know that Moore's law is done for in terms of silicon based integrated circuits. What is the next paradigm? Is there one?
I remember something about the limit to silicon being around ~14 atoms per transistor. That seems pretty good to me. What other paradigm would be better than that? Even if we got it down to 3-4 atoms per transistor, would that really be that big a deal? It's really not that much better. What's the point in trying to keep Moore's law going other than the egos of some EE nerds?
I don't want to hear about Quantum Computing it's not happening any time soon and it's not useful outside of like gene sequencing and shit.

Paging all bio/ med/ neuro boys

Why don't I feel the "buzz" people talk about for nicotine whatsoever? Why don't I feel anything whenever I smoke marijuana, while others who smoke the same amount say they felt it a lot? Is this due to something genetic? It's like I have some weird built-in tolerance. What's the biological reason for this?

If this is a real thing then I imagine it happens to a lot of people, not trying to seem like I'm special or something

Bumping.

So all those batteries would put out 1.5volts, yeah? They must be in parallel so they'd be two 1.5 sources is series, right? So am I right in thinking I'd need to compare the amp output of the batteries? mAh?

Idk, I'm a mechanical engineer who hates circuits

So I got this Java code, the challenge is to find a bug in it.

The array element is a coin, which can show heads or tails. You should return the maximum Adjacency of that coin row. Adjacency is a situation where there are 2 coins showing the same head. Can u help /sci? I don't see a bug, and all of my inputs worked well.

This is not my code, I should find an error in it.
The goal is to find a logic error or optimize the time... its time complexity should be O(n) and its space complexity O(1)

How come Maoris never became smart like northern Europeaners?

I mean, it is due to the harsh climate in Europe naturally selecting for intelligence in humans that they became smart.

This is since humans had no fur and the only thing that could keep them alive was intellect.

Was the New Zealand climate not harsh enough or were they just not there for long enough for natural selection to go to work on their genome?

well.
A) thank you very much, I am Maori.
B) in maori culture there wasn't much need to be inventive or innovative since they had everything they needed and invention is prompted by necessity.
C) what natural selection. the maoris completely Dominated the food chain.
>>
The Maori were there for a much shorter time, and they never invented stuff like true colonialism or feudalism which would cause competition and capitalism leading to industrialism leading to "smartness"
>>
>>8925696
whites were smart during medieval times. the true answer is that maoris came to new zealand very recently so there was no time to for evolution to work on their DNA. Also, the climate probably isn't quite harsh enough.
