depends what you mean by long period but
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Smale

>Smale entered the University of Michigan in 1948.[3][4] Initially, he was a good student, placing into an honors calculus sequence taught by Bob Thrall and earning himself A's. However, his sophomore and junior years were marred with mediocre grades, mostly Bs, Cs and even an F in nuclear physics. However, with some luck, Smale was accepted as a graduate student at the University of Michigan's mathematics department. Yet again, Smale performed poorly in his first years, earning a C average as a graduate student. It was only when the department chair, Hildebrandt, threatened to kick Smale out that he began to work hard.[5] Smale finally earned his Ph.D. in 1957, under Raoul Bott.

>He was awarded the Fields Medal in 1966

Using binary you can produce any number or letters with just 1s and 0s. But how do produce spaces? You'd need something else... "2s" or something.

not OP, but OP's pic raises a question

How does a computer know the start and end of a byte? Obviously if they're 8 bits you just count them out 8 at a time. But you'd need some point to start counting from.

Philosophy is a k word that means "love of wisdom." It is settled science that philosophy is trash and has no contribution to science, and no respectable scientist could have any soft spot in his heart for philosophy.

So... why do you hate philosophy?

Why is the temperature axis on a H-R diagram the wrong way around?
16 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>8925770
My guess: because a sun is hot at first, and then slowly turns colder with age. The x axis is more like a time axis.
>>
Why is blue hotter than white?
>>
>>8925861
Because the peak is in UV, so blue is the strongest part of the visible spectrum because it's closest to UV.

physically speaking, what does the act of cooking do to vegetables so that are edible after undergoing the process and inedible before?

what kind of physical and chemical occur and is it possible to simplify this process in a way that we can remove the unnecessary steps that don't contribute to the end state??

Did this guy single handily make science cool again? I remember when I was in high school back in Queen, NY I had to hide the fact that I loved science from my friends because I didn't want them to think that I was a beta nerd.

Now I feel like science and STEM related subjects are more acceptable in mainstream circles because of him. I wish I never failed under peer pressure and trying to fit in with the "cool" " crowd back in high school and college by being a "jock" and following my love and passion for astronomy.

this black man is a pseudoscientist and has not contributed a single nontrivial thing to science in decades.

If you listen to any of his talks, he has like 3 hours of memorized material and just regurgitates it over and over in every lecture

lack of data, attack speed isn't present

seriously doubt a dagger has the same attack speed as a war hammer
>>
>>8925015
Attack speed is identical, each get one attack per turn, turns are simultaneous. Defense is simple subtraction from damage.

lim n->inf

1/10^n=0

9/10^n=0

1/10^n+

9/10^n+9/10^(n-1)+9/10^(n-2)+•••

=0

but sum is "1"

therefore,

lim n->inf, 1/10^n is not 0

so 0.999... is not 1

isnt it?

If 0.999 = 1 doeth that meanst that there be no conservation of energies whilst people whomst applyeth limits calculateth with wholest numbers?
>>
>>8924686
Kek I see what you're doing.

No because you're making a sum from n=infinity to 0, which for our purposes is the same as the sum from m=0 to infinity where m=-n, of the same problem. You're just trying to do a proof by induction by saying the limit for 9/10^(n-p) as n->inf where p=0, equals zero, and it's true for p=1, etc. That doesn't really work here, because you're really just reversing the number line, as in, if p=n-2, then p is within epsilon of n.

I guess I didn't really explain that well, but that's the best you're going to get from me.

the series will eventually add
9/(10^-1) + 9/(10^-2) + 9/(10^-3) ...

Want to prove (p->q) && (q->r) -> (p->r).

We can assume (by assumption) that (p->q) && (q->r) is true and we want to show that if p is true, then (p->r) is true.

So if we assume p is true, then looking at the assumption q must be true (otherwise if p were true and q were false then p->q would be false in the assumption).

now we have p,q are true and since q is true then r must be true since we are assuming (q->r) is true.
This essentially shows that p,q,r is true and thus shows that (p->r) must be true. -- is that correct?
