ITT: Math tricks and shortcuts
You can quickly find the derivative of any power function by adding 1 to the exponent then multiplying the term by the new exponent. For example:
f(x) = 5x^4
f'(x) = (5)(5)x^(4+1)
f'(x) = 25x^5
Sure shaves a lot of time off of differentiating big polynomials and polynoginals.
Seems risky. Does it work every time?
>>8929704
so you are really just multiplying f(x) by the term (5x) in this case?
>>8929704
but that derivative is wrong brainlet
hey guys,
i'm fairly new to unity and trying to build a simple game in c#. i understand that every script you create needs to be attached to a gameobject. now say i have 3 gameobjects. what is the best practice to interact with them? i usually do the following to separate tasks - it works fine, but seems pretty stupid as it kind of defies oo-programming...
- GameObjects A, B and C
- c#-scripts A, B and C
[A] (takes, e.g., UI input values)
GameObject B, C;
void Start() {
B = GameObject.Find("B"); //this style is bugging me
C = GameObject.Find("C"); //this style is bugging me
}
private void doShit() {
//do shit in A and then call some functions in B or C, maybe with some parameters from A
B.GetComponent(Bscript).somefunction();
C.GetComponent(Cscript).somefunction(someMember);
}
[B]
GameObject A, C;
void Start() {
A = GameObject.Find("A"); //this style is bugging me
C = GameObject.Find("C"); //this style is bugging me
}
private void doMoreShit() {
//nice data mangling here. then we need a parameter from A to continue
//so we could either call B.doMoreShit() with the parameter in the first place or get it here separately
niceFunction(A.someUIinputParameter);
C.GetComponent(Cscript).somefunction(someMember);
}
OR: we declare public variables and fill them with the appropriate GameObjects. What's better though? It seems Unity gives several possibilities to achieve the same thing, what's best practice? I kind of like to keep it OO-oriented with the scripts without too much click'n'drag in the Inspector.

this thread doesn't belong on /sci/ but use an event system or a service locator pattern

sorry bro, thought it's computer science too...
thanks for the ideas! event system sounds fine
Do we have enough sources on earth to travel far far beyond our solar system?

Yes

b..but earth is so small and the universe is s..so b..big
Any American medfags or aspiring medfags here? Which school do you go to? How hard was it to get in? Which school are you planning to get into?
>>8929380
>got into Brown
>Won't tell you which one I chose :^)
its pretty obvious unless you are poor

Become a PA instead and keep some shred of your life together instead. You think you'll have freedom but you won't. 90% of us end up dancing puppets for giant, increasingly conglomerated health systems.
Either become a PA and have a real life or become go to business school and become one of these administrators that are now making more than most of the physicians I know, and who don't get called at 2am on a Saturday save a life for their profit.

crazy, i guess people can be wrong sometimes
Do you think global warming will be the end of humanity/civilization, or will we manage to solve the issue in the future?
we'll just evolve to live in higher co2 environments, that's what natural selection is for anyway

Is it possible to get feelings of dissociation/depersonalization, like an LSD-type of borderline schizophrenia, just by not being in contact with people or not interacting with them? How important is direct interaction to our psyche?
I'm asking because it felt like it would be a good idea for people to leave me alone so I could concentrate on studying but I'm beginning to see downsides both in performance as in how 'sharp' I am and in just not being an autismo in general.
Anyone have experience?
>>8928936
Artfag here. Yes.
Lack of contact leads to stress in social situations which increases cortisol which leads to brain rot and the death of neuron connections and neural pathways.
But you can counter that out with Neurogenesis
>>8928936
Social interaction is important. I tend to withdraw frequently and not socialize for long periods and I've also noticed negative effects. I'm more anxious and I also pick up less random information. There was some study I read a while ago about creativity and human contact. They basically locked somebody in a room for weeks with no human contact and measured creativity. Without human contact creativity dropped dramatically. Although, I suppose the internet is probably good enough to stave off that kind of problem.
Basically you should try to be a well adjusted human being. We function best that way.
You should try to find someone smarter than you to study with. You get your necessary social interaction and your studying is more efficient.

More like lack of sensory stimulation. Try locking yourself in a dark bathroom for 3 days and see what happens.

Can one learn Calc 1 and 2 in two months?
one can if one must
Well enough to take a test but you may forget it all in a week.

Not intuitively I'd say
Though I picked up all of trigonometry and half of calculus I in one summer so who knows
What is causing the steep rise in the lack of basic understanding of science by the general public?
>>>/pol/126503844
It seems to be on the rise, and the consequences seem pretty dangerous.
>>8927476

Go away.
>>8927476
To be honest, I don't recall any news of anyone really taking the time to confirm those common facts in person so there is a chance his suspicions could be right.

>What is causing the steep rise in the lack of basic understanding of science by the general public?
China has upped its disinformation and distrust of higher authority propaganda in the West the past 2 years now. Like literally undermining everything from the presidency to simple long held beliefs.
Does 0 count as an imaginary unit?

Trivial case
The neutral element can always be considered whatever it needs to be considered.
How feasible do you think it would be to develop and have more efficient propulsion within 50 years?
Chemical rockets simply don't have the efficiency (and dv) needed to move large loads over interplanetary distances, and it's holding back our potential to explore the solar system as a species.
>>8926554
more than some magical new propulsion technique, we would be better off if we finally did away with launching everything from the fucking earth.
Moon has fraction of the gravity and you can construct and launch much bigger ships from it.
>>8926554
You don't need efficiency if you have nuclear power.
>>8926623
But is there any fossil fuels on the moon?
If we are living in a computer simulation, how does one unplug?

Why did India or China not have its own versions of the scientific revolution, renaissance and the industrial revolutions?
but they did
They did but they don't delude themselves with stupid "revolutions". They come up with new ideas and just use them, they don't put them into fake-significant "movements".
Because asians are inherently anti-scientific.
There's a great number of brilliant asian scientist (Indians included, before anybody sends me a Ramanujan picture), but in general their mindset prevents successful minds from reaching their potential.
