Suppose I don't believe human visited Moon. Let my argument be it is too far away (4 E8 meters) for that much weight (3 E6 kg). Current satellites of that time were 100x closer (3 to 4 E6 meters) and 100-1000x times lighter.

Distance from Earth to Moon (meter): 4 E8
Distance from Earth to satellites of that time (meter): 3 to 4 E6

Mass of rocket that is claimed to brought humans to Moon (integrale of kg per meter):
>3 E6 to 5 E4 from Earth to 2 E5 (at that point module was separated from carrier rocket)
>5 E4 to 5 E3 from 2 E5 to surface of Moon
>With 5 E3 from surface of Moon to Earth

Mass of satellites of that time (kg): order of magnitude E3 to E4

I accept that unmanned devices did land on Moon. Latest lunar orbiter had a mass of 4 E3, 10x lighter than manned spacecraft.

In anticipation to the most common counterarguments
>There is a reflective surface in Moon that the men installed. You can shine laser onto it
Unmanned device could've easily planted that. I accept that reflective surface of that kind couldn't have formed spontaneously.
>Why would they fake a moon landing?
Power display. USSR and USA were heavily influenced by competition that could've driven them to such acts.
>What difference does it make whether they were on the Moon or not?
Humans have unrealistic expectations on space transportation possibilities. I want to reinforce the concept that humanity will (1) never live on any other celestial body other than Earth (2) never be able to transport any instrument outside the Solar system (3) never find extraterrestrial life. These realistic expectations will possibly lead to better environmental policies.

In conclusion: I claim a human has never touched the surface of Moon and returned alive.

How would you attack my claim so that I myself could reproduce the results? Merit of science is that in principle anyone could verify what you say, and that for a claim to be true, it must also be verified by someone else (for example, not USA).

A jetplane can run only for several hours at few hundred mph until its out of fuel yet we are expected to believe a tiny tin can had enough fuel to get all the way to the moon and with speeds far bigger than even the fastest fighter jets?

Is it within the realm of science to engineer a specific breed of hen to lay only female eggs? With the goal of removing the need to grind up thousands of male chicks every minute. Could something go horribly wrong if some of these were to escape their farm, such as an overpopulation of female chickens?

Also, do you think it will one day be possibly to engineer a lump of unthinking mass that takes in nutrients and puts out eggs, with no other bodily processes bar expelling waste and keeping itself alive?

Can we fuck it? If yes, then yes.

There's a lizard that clones itself. The entire species is nothing but female lizards. Such a thing for chickens in egg form would be a revolution in the chicken industry.

It wouldn't cause any problems in nature since chickens already don't cause problems in nature since they get eaten by predators so readily.

Has anybody here gotten into a graduate program?
I'm thinking of applying and getting into one for CS (BAS Major with CS and Math minors) and I'm...technically a super-senior at this point?
How competitive is it and what's the general procedure? I've got a decent GPA (3.8) and industry experience already but I didn't really butter up to any of my professors because I didn't think of it at the time.
Am I just fucked if I don't have glowing recommendations?

In CS PhD atm...

The main thing you need is research experienc to get into a PhD program. Masters students don't necessarily need research I suppose, and you can treat your masters as a way to get research experience.

You definitely need 3 academic letters however.
>>
>>8957710
Probably should've specified but yeah I'm just looking for a Masters, not really keen on going into PhD level.
>>
>>8957713
I would try to scrounge up the letters. Masters programs are less competitive since you're paying a shit ton and aren't funded generally. Lots of competition for grad school nowadays however...

ITT: Reverse engineer superpower ideas to try to explain them or expand on their effects

These have been fun before

>Try to avoid saying 'That's not possible' without explaining why, though it's still better to say 'That would have this side effect' eg. Super speed, even if your body could handle it, could have absurd effects on your ability to breath or mentally process fast enough, or even keep your eyes open due to wind resistance

Lets start big, and see if anyone feels like talking science
>Massive compression
What if you could choose a point in 3d space, and create a point of enormous compression within a small area (Say a sphere with a 1m/3ft diameter) that only lasts for a tenth of a second or so, but is an absurd amount of compression.
Hard to say what method it would accomplish this with, either centred on a single atomic point or pushing from the outside, suppose that's worth discussing

Would the massive air compression cause a resulting decompression much more dramatic than the original ability? What happens if you hit a physical object like a deskchair with it?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>8957691
How do you define compression? Are you applying a uniform force toward a center point?

>> even if your body could handle it
Well if your body could handle it, wouldn't that mean you could mentally process things and breath fast enough?
>>
im with anon, is it like a cavitation bubble?
you can look up what happens because it does (in water but still)
>>
>>8957727
More I mean when someone justifies super speed they only make mentions of things like muscles and maximum motor speed, they don't mention things like "Oh also your eyes are resistant to wind somehow" and that your minimum reaction time is smaller.

>>8957727
>>8957730

This is actually what I'm wondering and the point of the thread I suppose.
What kind of compression would allow a small sphere to pull towards the centre with extreme force?

When will the Roundfags and Flatfags EVER LEARN?
Earth is a HEPTAGON! GOT IT?!
Now, I know what some of you children are thinking:
>buh.. buh... How can Le Earth be le heptagon, that does not correspond to le current scientific understandings?
Well, listen up RETARDS, here is some UNDENIABLE evidence that, in fact, the Earth is SEVEN-SIDED.
>There are seven continents
>There are seven seas
>There are seven wonders of the world
You see, if the Earth was round (but it's not), there would be no continents, because the seven continents correspond to the seven points of a heptagon, and if the Earth was flat, there would be no points, because it's flat aka 2D, and the seas are the area between the points.
There is no need to thank me for helping end your IGNORANCE to the TRUTH, regarding the TRUE shape of the EARTH.

I'm incapable of doing real world physics problems so I need some help from you geniuses /sci/.

I have recently purchased a Baja bug (see picture) and would like it to be able to wheelie off the line at my local drag strip. My question is how much torque at the real wheels I need to be able to do this. You can assume around 100 lbs are behind the rear wheel, 2200 lbs overall weight, 240cm wheelbase.

If you could show me how you set this up I'd appreciate it and no it's not homework

Hello /sci/ Einsteins.

This may look like a desperate way to seek for viewers, but please... let me finish before you actually start to roast me up in here.

Me and my friend have created a youtube channel.. as a project, to see if we could actually entertain any of the viewers up on youtube. We didnt even imagine how much of a work is behind a simple "top facts" video, before we tried to create one ourselves. After we finished rendering and uploading one on our channel, we were desperately refreshing the site to see if there would be any feedback. But unfortunately, reality is a little different then we thought. I do know, that most of the people, already have their favourite channels that they are subbed to, and its quite obvious that they rather click on a video with 1M views, than on a video with 100 views.. but guys.. would you be kind enough to look our channel up? We would appreciate ANY feedback.. positive or negative.. ANY opinion DOES matter. There are currently only three videos up, but we are preparing to post regularly. As said in the channel description, videos will mainly include facts, theories and speculations about "technology, science, mysteries, futurology"... and much more type of stuff. We will try to post content that will be atleast a little educational and enjoyable.

Thank you very much to anyone actually clicking the link. And for the ones who are not interested, Im sorry for wasting your time.

Have a nice day. :)

>>

Guys, you haven't been on youtube for more than three videos and you're expecting viewership? Even if you're uploading regularly it's a slow process, usually takes years.
I appreciate what you're trying to do so here's my sincere criticism

Intros are far too long, people don't need 30 seconds to see the title of the video again, they got it. Move on to the content quicker

The content has the potential to be interesting but the delivery is poor. You simply copied and pasted literature onto the screen coupled with a semi-correlated image. Unless it's a lyric video you need a lot less text on screen, people will get bored fast and go.

You need a unique spin on this niche
If I wanted an explanation of science and technology I could go to google and get the hard facts straight away. There's a reason we go to Youtube. The creator has already done the hard part for us; researching up on the content. Now we want them to impart the knowledge to us in a well put togther package that shows their brand so to speak; and makes us want to come back.

You two obviously have a love for science and I'm glad you're making these videos. I hope you're having fun too because as I said earlier, it's hard to gain a following on youtube so try not to get disscouraged and keep working on making your content better.

What I'm trying to say is that it's got to be memorable. Your videos come across as flat, nothing changes, the tone is far too neutral.
