Post undeniable truths that /sci/ will still deny.
>The only useful majors are math, physics and electrical engineering
>All universities except the top 30 worldwide should be closed
>Admission to these universities should remain at least as restricted as it is currently
>Only PhDs in these subjects should be offered by the remaining universities
>Anyone seeking tuition in a different subject should go to trade school or med school

hey whats up

my thread just got deleted or pruned so i dont think /b/ is the correct area to talk about this so i figured what about here?

soo what i want to ask is what are thoughts on the niribu collision and planet X thing with it connecting to religion all of a sudden and how it could signal the end of the world?

it seems that nasa confirms that there is a planet X but does not talk about it at all and apparently it is being censored on google.

your thoughts?

>niribu collision and planet X thing with it connecting to religion

You want a real life conspiracy theory, and not some nutjob whacked out one?? This is the REAL reason why Pluto's no longer a planet.

NASA discovered proof of Planet X, but didn't want to give the religious nutjobs any credit and certainly didn't want it named Niribu, even tho that's the name everyone's calling it. So they declassified Pluto as the 9th planet, and Niribu is now planet 9, except they won't be calling it Niribu. And for all eternity NASA can keep saying PlanetX (planet 10) does not exist, even after they release new data proving a new extra solar planet.

ok i can understand that, but what about the whole thing where its being said that it will collide with the earth and it has been predicted and shit like that, now sitings of it getting closer and coming out.

Hey how are you STEMfags doing with hanging on to what you've learned?

Because I had a pretty horrible wake up call a few weeks ago, when I tried to describe series to someone, and realized I've almost completely forgotten everything about it. It hasn't even been a year since I've learned it, and it was my favorite topic in calculus- I mean, I was completely engrossed in that class.

Now junior year is right around the corner and I'm wondering how much else I've forgotten (and where it'll bite me in the ass).

How do you handle that /sci/? Constant review?

What is the scientific explanation of what James Watson is saying in this interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Q3X69a1YhA

He talks very slowly so you should instead just read the description which has the entire thing. But some important points:

Question: Do you spend much time reading scientific journals?

>So I have the leisure time actually to read. And I think that's what we've lost now in sort of science today is leisure. Now Crick and I had plenty of leisure because nothing was happening when we were trying to find the DNA structure. There was, you know, there weren't hundreds of new facts appearing almost every week that we might learn about.

> Now scientists want people to they are experts, so they've become more and more narrow experts and not very broad

> And also you find that there hasn't been one person doing it; there are 50 names on the paper... I think stop having 50 names on a paper. Just you know, accept the fact that the rest really didn't think at all about it.

>That is, we're training people who really don't want to think, they just want to have jobs. And they consume money. And so you'd lose some, you know, if you cut out people who didn't have real dreams. But if you go into science, I think you better go in with a dream that maybe you too will get a Nobel Prize. It's not that I went in and I thought I was very bright and I was going to get one, but I'll confess, you know, I knew what it was. And Crick's thinking was otherwise, but the moment I saw that structure I thought: "We're gonna get a Nobel Prize." I knew it in five minutes, it was so obvious.

Is it theoretically possible for us to ever develop scientific or technological means of stopping a Hurricane? Say like building giant pillars in the ocean to slow down the winds?

What about setting a nuke off at the eye of a hurricane? Would the blast be as such to disrupt the winds, and basically just obliterate it into just rain clouds?

Normiebook question/conspiracy
Can anyone confirm this?
I browse through Facebook from time to time and I'm noticing more and more "videos" like pic related that are just one image of text put into a video.
My idea is that these pages are actually run by companies like Sprint and AT&T so that when you're out in public using data instead of Wi-Fi to browse Facebook shit like this will run through your data way faster. And then the cell phone companies can charge for using more data.

Example. That screenshot I took is less than 200kb. The image itself would have been even less data than that. But put it in video format and it's 39 seconds long, which means it could potentially charge you for 40 mb for one fucking image. (Rough estimate based on video quality)

And because of how Facebook's latest update worked it autoplays the video instantly, so if you're not looking closely you won't even realize it's a video, and you'll just scroll past it, charging for even more data.
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>9160654
what's the problem exactly? no one is making you autoplay videos, or even have a facebook
>>
>>9160672
The problem is that video in my screenshot had 245,000 views.
It looks like a page that every highschool girl would follow for the "OMG THAT'S SO ME" content.
A lot of teens browse Facebook when they're out with friends or in school, so that's a lot of teens using data and getting videos like this in their newsfeed. So if you have a kid who uses Facebook then whenever they go out there's a high chance they're using hundreds of times more data than they should be when they check their Facebook. And that's gonna be more you get charged for, more money going straight to the cell companies.

Will be Lee become another hurricane? If so, what category?

Is climate change to blame? If so, does that mean this is going to get worse as time progresses?

Why hasn't the USA taken more drastic measures to deal with this issue? Why is everyone sticking their heads in the sand and pointing fingers?

You said that backwards. If this gets worse, then we will know climate change is to blame. However it would probably take a few decades before we have enough evidence to be sure we crossed the line

>>9160534
But if we've crossed the line then won't it be too late?

So I've been looking into learning a new language to learn other than my already fluent English and conversationally functional German.
I recently stumbled across a "How to learn Japanese in 6 months" guide and realised that all of its teachings can be applied to any language, which means I can learn basically a single language of my choice in one years time. The deal is, I don't know what to learn; all I know is that I want to learn something that wouldn't be a complete waste.

So in my search I'm going to lay out some statistical data and my current situation:
- World's Most Spoken Languages that I'm actually willing to learn: (Numbers as of Census 2016)
> Mandarin Chinese (848 Million)
> Spanish (399 Million)
> English (335 Million) < Already know it.
> Arabic (242 Million)
> Russian (166 Million)
> Japanese (128 Million)

I live in an area where Spanish is spoken almost as much as English, and only about half of the Spanish speaking populace are bilingual. I have large interest in Space and have been taking USAF ROTC, so I can see Russian being something actually decent and applicable for me to learn. Seeing that Chinese is the most spoken language and a large chunk of the business world speaks Chinese, it may also not be a complete waste to learn, since I would like to look into taking over my father's trade business. I can also improve my understanding of German from just knowing enough to get around Germany or such, to being fully fluent.
Point being, those four languages are pretty much the most practical for me to learn, but I'm really open for discussion as to what would be best to learn. I'd love to be able to say, "Yeah, I can learn this, then this, and then this," but quite honestly I feel like my limit is three spoken languages. So what do you guys think I should learn?
