Apparently, the more children you have the more likely you are to think that personality is genetical. What is the reason for this?
>What is correlation?
Begone, brainlet.
>>8984789
>personality
Just a random configuration of brain chemicals being fired as specific times
Oxytocin all the time means your an empathetic sensitive pussy
Serotonin means your a depressed fag
Low Serotonin means your an aggressive asshole.

heres a fun quote
>"professors are inclined to attribute the intelligence of their children to nature (genetics), and the intelligence of their students to nurture (environment)" -Roger Masters
i know it doesnt necessarily mean much in this context, but neither does that correlation. plus it doesnt mean those people are right, personality is a mixture of genes and experiences. The most outgoing, normal personality person in the world (from a genetic perspective), if locked in a room 24/7, there is no doubt their personality would change due to the environment, potentially leading to a genetic change due to the environment!
Is there any way, naturally, to eliminate the sense of temperature, like heat, to not feel it?
It would make so much things easier like, working in harsh places, factories, etc.
Also you wouldn't need any special clothes, neither fans or stuff to not be hot as fuck
>>8984533
Well you could jump in a cold lake.
>>8984553
but permanently
like everywhere you go, you don't feel hot
>>8984563
Very specific brain damage should cut it
>self driving cars are invented
>AI that drives them is trained to detect street signs
>cars are programmed to stop at stop signs
>guy stands on the side of the highway holding a stop sign
>15 car pileup ensues
How do you train a neural network to recognize road signs and take appropriate action? Obviously a human driver isn't going to stop doing 60 on the highway because some schmuck is holding a sign. But a computer designed to hit the brakes when it detects a red octagon doesn't know what "appropriate" action is. In a way it's immeasurably worse than a human driver.
>>8984204
So THAT'S why I have to click all these fucking vehicles and street signs.
Things like pic related will pose an interesting challenge for them.
>>8984204
>>15 car pileup ensues
>15 angry guys step our of their car and beat of the "prankster"
>>8984258
Are you implying that idiot pranksters would not exist because there would likely be repercussions? Given the ubiquity of idiot pranksters, and the existence of repercussions they already face, I think your positions in untenable.

Just hope youre right nerd. Or confirm using symbolab.

>>8983823
that's only if you're a lactose intolerant freak

I've been doing this for like six years and I'm stable at a very /fit/ 170 pounds. Most people would be jealous of my abs and if anything I have constipation more than diarrhea.
>tfw you realize quantum weirdness is just a result of using continuous mathematics for discrete phenomena
>>8983621
Yea, that's not true (idiot). Even though one can logically deduce that motion has to be quantified in order to have physical meaning, this still doesn't explain how the universe supports motion involving a non-zero metrical limit. Go back to your lower-division problem sets you loser

How do I study?
Schedule it with a planner.

Oh boy
Is it possible for a planet to have an atmosphere with conditions unsuitable for lightning? If so, what would be the conditions? Could a planet with such an atmosphere be capable of hosting life?
Lightning is not dangerous enough to move to a different planet OP
>>8983535
A present risk of being hit by lightning isn't the reason why I'm asking.
Hi OP,
Well, lighting is caused by large electrical potential between earth and the clouds. at high enough potential difference, the air goes into electrical breakdown and becomes a conductor.
I recommend looking up the breakdown voltage of our air on earth. then i would look up what chemical mixtures pf gas would cause very low conductivity and extremely high breakdown voltage. gas mixtures like those I describe would be the atmosphere you are looking for.
t. math grad
To all the Math people, why do you like math? What makes you interested in it and why is it enjoyable to you?
I ask because I want to learn more of it but unless I'm ina course I have little motivation to keep studying it on my own
>>8983521
Simply put, because math is beautiful. Some of the proofs are, in my opinion, nothing short of art.
Math is seriously ugly. It looks like a piece of turd. I could draw better than that with my eyes tied behind my back.

What does /sci/ think of chemtrails? Are they real or just some crazy conspiracy theory?
posting in a brainlet thread

I mean... water vapor is technically a chemical
>>8983465
>What does /sci/ think of chemtrails? Are they real or just some crazy conspiracy theory?
secret geoengineering project.
Specifically, is there any reason for someone who wants to get a phd and go into organic synthesis research to take an extra year for an accelerated MS in materials science? Does it improve your employment prospects in case academia/the specific research you want in industry doesn't pan out? Does gaining that broader foundation/background help your work in a specific chemical niche at all?
Or would someone be served better by going headfirst into their intended field, and going back for an unrelated masters later on if they don't luck out, in something like mathematical finance?
Pic tangentially related
>>8983324
I have a professor who has a post-doctorate degree in material sciences and engineering, real smart guy
All he does is drink and smoke in his office, also he makes a living by """""teaching""""" materials science classes at my college which consists of 10% actual class and 90% dissing other professors and going to their conferences and talking shit about their presentations
>mfw he stood up and said "I am the master of superconductors" to a peer because he disagreed with his thesis on the viability of superconductors
>>8983324
Mat Sci is pretty employable so yeah. ChemE is also pretty employable and in the same vein.
>>8983324

What do you think about epistemology and metaphysics(while still grounded somewhat in reality and not delving into spiritual bs)? Are they(and philosophy in general) a waste of time? Can you get anything practical out of them or are they just (maybe or maybe not)interesting but useless ideas?
>>8982908
>and philosophy in general
You need philosophy to know how to do science. You need philosophy to interpret the results of science.
Science itself doesn't make the laws and ethics and everything we need to continue a society, to continue science itself. Science is an incomplete system if you base for forming a basis of reality.
>>8982908

Recently I've been reading about the life of Paul Erdos and how he would abuse coffee and amphetamines and considered those two things fundamental to being able to produce new theorems.
I am right now training to be a mathematician and I really don't want to miss out on what soon may be my best years. Right now I only drink one cup a day in the mornings to wake up as university starts pretty early but I wouldn't have a problem with increasing this dose. I don't really care that much about my health, I just want to be a great mathematician.
How much coffee should I be drinking daily?
Fuck off and study.
>>8982657
this.
>>8982657
I am already studying. But imagine you were an athlete who didn't use steroids, when everyone else is using steroids. It would be stupid not to also do steroids.
I just need to know, is Paul just an odd one out or do all mathematicians do drugs? Can you do top tier math without drugs?
