Need an advice on how to approach the following NP-hard problem:
Given a sequence tan(1),tan(2),...,tan(n) insert '+', '-', '*' to minimize the absolute value of difference of n and value of resulting expression. (5 ≤ n ≤ 365).
I know very little about approximation algorithms for NP-hard problems and I'd be happy if anon could give me a general idea how to approach this problem or what this problem can be reduced to or whether it is a generalization of some well-known NP-problem so I can google more efficiently.

I have a simple dream. I want to create something that keeps me entertained for longer than it takes me to create it. So far I've failed utterly, and not for lack of trying (duh)
I want this time to create a simple program, using neural networks, that by showing it a style and a text makes me a nice lineart caricature.
I also want to create a program that by showing it a caricature and a text, it gives the caricature the expression ordered by the text.
Which resources should I investigate/read/dowload, to speed up my progress?

/sci/ I see lots of people blaming the recent hurricanes on global warming. How much of that correlation is actually true? I cannot see how global warming increases the severity of hurricanes and earthquakes (as some claim).
