Some high school students who got extremely good grades in their finals (i.e. good enough for Medicine in non-American countries) decide to major in stuff such as Physics, Anthropology, Linguistics, Chemistry, etc. in the hope of doing research in the future. Why would they pick that?
>If you don't have anything published, your funding will be cut and you will have no income
>There is no guarantee that you will like research and most people hate if over time
>Jobs are meant to be monotonous, not fun
>They can easily major in Medicine, Law, Actuarial Science, Dentistry science, etc and switch to research later on or do a Master's degree in their area of interest
>The market for researchers is very bad at the moment - it is 100+ people competing for a tenured professorship post and it will not be you getting that job
>Being an adjunct professor sucks as all the contracts are short-termed
It is hard to even secure a mortgage with such unstable employment
>If you can't find any professorship job, it is hard to find anyone else to hire you as they know that you will go back to academia as soon as you find another professorship job, so chances are you will either end up unemployed or working at McDonalds during this time

Hey sci. My friend wants to take an online program (on java) at a local university but I fear that he's getting ripped off. I've showed him Coursera and EdX, but he replies with: "Those lack continuity, here it builds on itself and it's a whole integrated program."

Is getting ripped off? Are there any similar/better alternatives? If instead of doing the program, he looked at each class and found a similar course on eg: EdX. Would this be as valuable?

I'm starting to reliase that all majors except for mathematics and physics are vanity majors or wageslave majors. Either thye're like enigneering: designed to act as a conveyor belt for unfortunate youths from school to wageslavery such as engineering / finance careers, or vanity stuff like english, biology, chemistry, huamnities, arts: a 4 year country club experience where a pretense of learning is instilled yet nothing rigorous ever takes place.
I'm unsure where to put computer science. It ranges from maths / physics tier to wageslave tier, depending on the course and university.

Is this a suitable scale for a linear regression line? The minimum of the mean weight is 0.1275 and the maximum is 11.6140.
It just seems far too big for how small the minimum is. Minitab wont let me show the exact values for the mean for some reason

The only valid thing to come out of psychology is approaching neurology from the top down. Testing for cognitive heuristics, ways people tend to respond and what that indicates about what's going on in their mind and driving their behaviors, finding hardwired bottlenecks, like those with linguistic processing, thinking about memory subsystems, etc.
But that's the beginning and the end. All the rest is "mental illness", the belief of which is itself is a delusion of the mentally ill. The more people who are dismissive of this, the better. Maybe society will figure out why it's so ailed and begin to become an environment that helps people with issues. We're passed the point of witch doctors having any use whatsoever. They're an old world relic that ought to fuck off+die.
