Try expressing it in a Banach space first, then it should be trivial.

Because rankings actually evaluate how concentrated research is. In the US you have a few excellent unis and lots of shit ones while in Europe, virtually all are very good.

Besides, education quality =/= research quality.

>>

It's not hard most of the time, I just grow interest in other things, I enjoy too many aspects of life, I can't stick with something for 4 years, it's just too much, you might be right but I just can't stick with something. So little time in the world and I just love too much.

How do I keep at it? I get depressed and unable to function if I stick with one thing for too long.

I do the same thing to be honest. I've even gotten pretty good at a few of them, but I keep getting interested in a lot of new stuff.

Why didn't you do ME you retard? Literally why I didn't do EE it's too abstract for me.

I work at a pizza place and was discussing a scenario with my boss, we have 50 toppings for a pizza.

He wanted to know how many different pizzas we could have, including having all 50 on one pizza.

I said you have 50 choices the first time, 49 the next, then 48 until only 1 is left.

Based on this simpler example.

If you have 3 toppings you have 3x2x1 = 6 different pizzas.

Example:

Mushroom Tomatoes Bacon
Mushroom Tomatoes
Mushroom Bacon
Tomatoes Bacon
Bacon
Mushrooms
Tomato

That gives 7 different kinds not 6.

What is going on here? How would apply to the 50?
21 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>7734870

This is a simple combination problem because mushroom/tomato is the same as tomato/mushroom. There are [math]C(50, 50)[/math] ways to choose 50 toppings from 50, there are [math]C(50, 49)[/math] ways to choose 49 toppings from 50, etc.
>>
>>7734874

3x2x1 gives 6 different pizzas with 3 topping choices but in reality the answer is 7 because you can have each topping on it's own too.
>>
>>7734885

With three topping choices you can either choose three toppings or choose two toppings or choose one topping. There are [math]C(3,3)[/math] ways to choose three toppings, [math]C(3,2)[/math] ways to choose two toppings, and [math]C(3,1)[/math] ways to choose one topping. That means there are
[eqn]C(3,3) + C(3,2) + C(3,1) = 7[/eqn]
ways to choose toppings.

Your factorial answer [math]3 \times 2 \times 1[/math] is not correct. It's a combination problem.

My penis extremely flaccid right now. It might even be near my physiological maximum flaccidity. Feels good man.

Do humans have a calculable absolute minimum penis volume, at any given time (and relative to one's body as it is at that moment)? Can I figure out if I could be more flaccid?

>>
>>7734233
If I cut off my dick it would become less flaccid though. I want to know if I'm experiencing the maximum flaccidity.
>>
>>7734236
Cutting off your dick would let all of the blood out.
Flaccidity is determined by the amount of blood not in your penis.
Therefore;
Cut off your penis for maximum flaccidity.

Hello /sci/entists,

Long story short I am a Medical Laboratory Technician in the U.S. Army. I've earned my ASCP MLT certification and all. No degree, but about 60 college credits and my certification.

I have about a year and a half on my current enlisted contract and I definitely want to GET OUT.

When I ETS I will be able to earn a (mostly) paid for bachelor's degree with the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill...

The only issue is that I am not quite sure what I should study for both maximum career safety [post-automation, in good and bad economic times, etc.] and monetary gain.

My MLT certification, experience and college credits could potentially lead to careers in Medical [Nursing, Physician Assistant, Pathologist's Assistant, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Bloodbanking Technologist], Sciences [Bioengineering, Biomedical Scientist, etc.] and other such careers.

What say you? Much obliged.

I can do Riemann integrals. How do I learn double and triple integrals?

You just change bounds so you can do dx then dy, or whatever order is easiest, then integrate separately usually. Sometimes you'll change to polar or spherical coordinates. This is a generalization though.
>>
>>7733605
You integrate with respect to the product measure.
>>
>>7733609

This idea keeps flashing up in my head: to resolve the problem of constant lack of funding for science and space exploration: introduce a “Robin Hood”-type of scheme: run a company that feeds off of peoples desire to be lazy and procrastinate. Essentially this is the major reason facebook, instagram, buzzfeed, Netflix, etc. are so successful. Extract money from people through that company and use it to privately contribute to fields of science you deem useful and under-funded. I believe this Robin Hood approach: taking from the morons through their voluntary moronic behavior, and giving it to science, is the only way to help out yourself.

(more detailed though below)

Everyone single one should contribute his or her part to the evolution and progress of humanity into the interstellar space and other frontiers of the future. In this sense, we should actually think like a swarm and focus our intellect to tackle problems and expand our borders of knowledge. We face the ’tragedy of the commons’: individuals of society are acting independently in their own interest and often contrary to the best interest of our species because they are depleting government budget money into bullshit programs and not spending enough on science.

Much more of the budget should be spent on research, space exploration and much less on military, foreign policy, and welfare bullshit. Nowadays, almost every member of society gets taken care of, no matter how useless the person is. I absolutely hate people who do not live up to their full potential but chose to lead lazy lives. We need to re-introduce Darwinism into society, there is no need to keep all the bottom-feeders of society well-off. Those who are lazy and do not live up to their full potential of contribution to humanity should not be taken care off, there are over 7 billion people on the planet. We should focus on the ones who want to make a difference, not who keep us back as a species.

Finally, to abstract and make it simple: most of the budget is coming from taxes and the majority of tax payers are morons. These morons elect politicians to push-through their moron-ideas, they are unlikely to push funding for science.

If you are in a position like me where you don’t agree how the budget is spent, your only option is to be a science-funding “Robin Hood”, that is for example to run a successful company that extracts money from morons through exploting their love for laziness (like facebook, instagram, buzzfeed, etc.). This money can then be used to contribute to research you find useful, i.e. privately add funds to where you think the government is not funding enough.

It's honestly not a bad idea. It sounds exactly the same as how public bitcoin funds would be used in Facebook or Twitter posts. All you would do is click on the address as you would a link. Micro transactions are done without fee, extremely easily to whatever cause is supported by the people using that address with just a multi-key wallet for explicit unanimous consent.

I'm hoping there's someone here who's good at stats.

Basically I have the following situation. I have two variables (a, b), both of which I use as predictors of a third variable (c).

I use variables a and b in two separate regression analyses to obtain coefficients that indicate the relationship between variables a and b on the one hand, and variaible c on the other. I find that variable a is negatively linearly related to c. Variable b shows a positive linear relationship with variable c. There are no quadratic relationships between variable a or b, and variable c.

Now, if I instead use both variable a and b in a single regression analysis (so they are in the same model) this should give us coefficients that indicate the relationships between variables a and b to variable c, but independent of each other. By doing this we discard shared variance between a and b.

For some reason I can't get my head around, doing this makes a positively quadratically related to c, and b negatively quadratically related to c. The linear dependencies are also still there.

What do the quadratic relationships imply?

Is it true that my fear of being rejected by girls is 100 % irrational in this age of big cities, and that its a remnant of humans previously living in nomadic tribes where there were barely any girls to ask to mate with (so a few rejections means no passing on your genes)?

Your fear is 100% justified. In modern slut culture 100% of women are competing for the attention of less than 20% of males (the so called "Chads"). If you're born a non-Chad, the best you can hope for is to get rich and to find a single mom in her 40's with 3 children from 4 fathers who reluctantly settles for a beta provider whom she more or less openly contempts.
