Hello /sci/

I daydreamed a little and had an idea.
What if our current system of mathematics actually prevents us from understanding universe completely? What are the limitations of mathematics? What could be alternative to mathematics?

Just like binary is limited to only two values, there surely must be some limitations to mathematics? Should we even use numbers?

Any good reads on.. how do you call it? Mathematical philosophy?

I propose we use dogs instead of numbers from now on. This shall be a big leap forward.
>>
yeah, we call it unpractical day dreaming
go study psychology or philosophy and day dream all day without doing jack, it suits you OP

want to prove me wrong? invent a better mathematical system then. Otherwise just shut your bitching mouth
>>
>>7794164
Why the attack? I am not disregarding maths in any way. I was just thinking what if cant go past certain point because our mathematical system simply does not comprehend it? You seem like religious zealot, unable to question any sort of higher power. Anyone who enjoys science should be open minded abot any ides that are not corruptive.

Is the fact that most people are right handed a result of biology or culture? Or both?

Yes
>>

your main hand is the opposite of the testicle that hangs low.
This allows optimal scratching and sniffing, it's an evolutionary advantage.
>>
Not proven, but a popular hypothesis:

There is a combat advantage to being left-handed. If you are left-handed, most of your opponents will be right-handed, and you will be used to how they move. But most of your opponents' opponents will also be right-handed, so they WON'T be used to how you move. This is most commonly observed today in sports.

This would create a kind of equilibrium, where the advantage is bigger the rarer it is, which in turn makes it more common, etc. If left-handedness also comes along with certain disadvantages (and there is evidence it does, healthwise), then you end up with stable minority of left-handers.

Help me out sci, im studying for a Calc 3 test i have on friday and im having trouble with a problem from the textbook (pic related)
Find the Value of the triple integral;
[math]\iiint\limits_E \,xy \mathrf{d} V\ [/math]
(my latex may suck, its the triple integral of (xy)dV on the region E). Where E is the pholyedron with vertex (0,0,0) (1,0,0) (0,2,0) and (0,0,3).
The problem im having is that the solution on the textbook is (8/3e). i really dont know how you could end up with e on the result.
thank for your help guys.

0<x<1
0<y<2-2x
0<z<3-(3y/2)-3x

Hi /sci/, I need some help with choosing a sorting algorithm for a website I'm coding. /g/wdg/ is useless and keeps calling me an autist when I point out that their suggestions are not even related to what I was asking for (for example, one poo in the loo linked me to a tutorial on how to sort an array numerically, which isn't what I was asking for at all).

So here's what I need:
I want to take in how old a given post on my website is and what rating it has, and then output a natural number which ranks the said post. The higher the rank, the higher in the post list it will appear.
This function should create an optimal balance between freshness and quality of content for the users.
What do you suggest, /sci/?

Hot damn CS tards are stupid.
>>
>>7790528
I'm simply looking for a suggestion. I could easily write any function of that sort, but I'm looking for an optimal one.
>>
>>7790513
>sorting shit yourself

This is what you do. In your database at a column called 'Rating'.

Then, make an algorithm that by using the date of the post and the likes or whatever it has produces the natural number that ranks the post.

Then, everytime someone likes a post have it run that algorithm to recalculate immediately.

Then, when someone looks up your website simply do this:

SELECT * FROM Posts ORDER BY Rating ASC

>inb4 I'm not using SQL for my database
Then you fucked up. Better start loading up the helium tank.

Is this still a good read?
That hasn't become dated by new scientific developments?

I want to have it on my coffee table so I can come off as a pretentious atheist to my girlfriends culturally catholic parents.

It's definitely a worthy read, especially if you have an interest in evolutionary biology.

While dated and erroneous in some aspects, Darwin's insight was impressive for the time and he presented his arguments very well.
>>
>>7790340
Yes, though a bit outdated. If you are a popscientist and have an interest in evolutionary biology I would recommend Richard Dawkins. His grasp on evolution is unparalleled and his writing is lucid and crisp. I recommend The Ancestor's Tale. Do stay away from his anti-religios books, if you are not into that sort of thing. He can be a bit zealous
>>
>>7790340
What's the current view on evolution? I've heard that some scientist are moving away from the standard theory.

Is it true or just creationismfags in denial?

Well lets see...

>decline of wages and middle class = decline in sales for Amazon and Tesla
>SpaceX and Blue Origin get BTFO due to low investor confidence unless the gubmint steps in and gives them subsidies
>Tesla Motors only attract a niche market of rich normies. Also because electric batteries are still too fucking shit, Tesla stock declines, and in order to survive, gets eventually acquired by a larger company
>Avatar 2 flops and James Cameron's Planetary Resources gets BTFO
>D-Wave already getting BTFO by scientists

a world of only engineers would be much like the world we see today, with skyscrapers, smartphones, 777s and porsche turbos, whereas in a world of only artists, poets, and communications majors, we would be living in caves, fingerpainting and writing poetry on the walls with our feces.
where am i going wrong, because my 140 iq mind is telling me im not

there really isnt a point in arguing with this.

Say youre right.
nature will sort out the weak ones during war and they will die or be poor for the rest of their lives. by your very definition they shouldnt be very competitive

say youre wrong
then your just a fedora neckbeard
>>
>>7794764
there is no world of "only artists, poets and communicators" and there's no world of "only engineers". jobs are based on need. if you remove all the "superfluous" jobs you're left with the barebones basics: agriculture, farming, basic medicine. then you can add warfare technology (blacksmithing, trained warriors), more sophisticated building methods, etc etc.

art, poetry, communication as professions have tons of stability prerequisites. maybe that means they're "purer" and more related to deep desires instead of physical need.

in any case this thread is shit, this isn't math or science and is meant to bait people in major arguments. fuck off
>>
>>7794764
>World of only artists
>Everyone is an artist so the art market becomes really crowded
>Some artists can't support themselves with art
>They start exploring other skills to have means of economically surviving
>Some go into math, which leads into basic engineering
>In some years we have full blown engineering like today.

All you need to know is some logic to figure out how this system would sort itself out.

I'm currently making up for an online class that I missed most of the work for over the intersession. I have tonight to finish all my assignments....

The examples I've been given to solve are on a website called Wileyplus and the ebook I'm reading from is called Statistics:unlocking the Power of Data by Lock, Lock Lock (a bunch of locks from the same family)

Anyway... My dilemma is that I do not know what I'm doing and cannot find an answer key or pdf download anywhere on the web (haven't been able to search deep web).

With that being said! Is there any answer key out there for the examples and problems that I am doing? Or is there a site that I could check for this kind of information?

Any help is good help!

Much appreciated - Anon

The 1st Law of Sauce outlines the fundamentals of existence and the universe. It is an abstract of the physical propensity of biotic and abiotic material. “The one that lacks the sauce is forever lost in the realms of Sauron and shall never be the same. But the one in possession of such sauce maybe overpowered by it and can potentially be misplaced to the same degree. For he who does not have balance will be damned for eternity“- Plato

Any synthetic and or Physical chemist.

Can someone explain to me or help me understand how,
sin2(b) if tan(b) = -3/4 and cos(b) > 0 can equal to -24/25? please
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Well, since you didn't give us angles we can't really help you lol..because;

Sin is a/c and cos is b/c, and finally tan is a/b but without the 3 angles of the triangle(a,b,c) it's hard to help buddy
>>
>>7794613
OP is a faggot as usual: >>7794594
>>
>>7794613
This belongs in /sqt/ but I'll bite. Since the tangent is negative and cos(b)>0, sin(b)<0. let cos b = c. sin(b) = -sqrt(1-c^2), the negative value.
Solve for c in this: tan(b) = -sqrt(1-c^2)/c = -3/4
then evaluate sin (2b) using the double angle identity.

Why are highschools teaching basic trigonometry such as,

"find sin2b if tan b = -3/4 and cosb > 0"

My little brother brought this home, This shit is for like middle schoolers, do other countries really not understand trig.?
