what does science say about laziness?
is it hormones? genetics? tell me about it.
16 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Laziness is a result of being highly intelligent. You realize that all human effort is ultimately pointless and irrelevant compared to the vastness of the cosmos, and thus do not see anything worth putting effort towards

Ok, so because of some timetable fuckery, I can only choose from two papers to add to my first semester of a physics major. This paper can be in classics, or in philosophy. So which one of these is ultimately more useless, and which one is ultimately more brain-numbing and uninteresting? Like to hear your thoughts.

Neither you dumbfuck. The only thing useless is your brain. Both fields will teach you how to think and view the world inquisitively. However, if you must choose one, I would go with classics.

What do you do if you've just found out you just 15seconds ago had unprotected sexual intercourse with someone who has an STD (let's say herpes)? Do you quickly run to the bathroom and soak your gooch in water and call the ambulance to get antibiotics or something? Surely there must be something you can do to reduce the risk of infection.

You know, just in case, I like to be prepared.

I don't know the biology of it, so that missing knowledge would be a reason to wash my dick, yes.

I also know that a great bunch of girls have herpes anyway.
>>
Herpes isn't that contagious when she doesn't have blisters. Washing won't do shit, and you could take antivirals for the rest of your life to prevent outbreaks but that's retarded.

Drinking anything you can that makes you piss a lot would probably help flush out your urinary tract. Other than that, I don't know, but I'm looking forward to see other answers.

I like this new thread idea. More actual discussion on /sci/ and less shit posting I will start us off with one.

What is, If at all, the relationship between the centroid of a region and the equilibrium points in Lotka-volterra predator and pray systems?
>>
Let [math]F:M \to N[/math] be a continuous map between smooth manifolds. I want to show that if smooth real valued functions on all of [math]N[/math] pullback to smooth real valued functions on [math]M[/math], then [math]F[/math] is smooth. I get the idea -- given a smooth chart [math](V,\psi)[/math] in [math]N[/math], we want to say that [math]\pi_1 \circ \psi \circ F[/math] is smooth ([math]\pi_1[/math] is a coordinate projection), but we can only say that smooth functions on *all* of [math]N[/math] pullback to smooth functions, right? What's the way around this?

I know it's something really simple, but it's bothering me. Will answer any equally stupid questions in return.

It's been awhile since I've taken any kind of calculus, so I'd appreciate it if someone could check this for me, since I'm working on my own at the moment to refresh what I've lost over the years:
If I wanted to find the surface area of a rocket nozzle with a curve modeled by the equation [math] 3 + \left( \frac{\ln{(\frac{x}{2})}}{2} \right) [/math] with a domain 0.005 ≤ x ≤ 9 rotated about the x axis, would the equation be the following?
[eqn] \int_{0.005}^{9} 2 \pi \left( 3 + \left( \frac{\ln{\frac{x}{2}}}{2} \right) \right) \cdot (9-0.005) dx [/eqn]
Thanks for any help. Pic related is the equation and a sketch of the model.

I honestly can't help you here, the only thing I recognize there is centroid.

>>7849246

No, receding gums never grow back because they are a sympton of testicular cancer, which means that luckily for us, you will die in 2 months and thus will never propagate your shitt 2 digit IQ genes.

if there were an Atom made of one proton, one electron and one neutron, would it not be completely neutral in charge due to the proton and electron canceling out each others charge and the neutron being neutral... and thus not interact with what we understand as reality?

It occurs to me that the probability of there being atoms with every conceivable combination of particles becomes more likely the least amount of atomic weight and this particle, if it does exist, would be 2nd on the periodic table.

iv very curious about this. please debate !
27 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>>7848996
It wouldn't be completely neutral. Your basic chemistry understanding of the model of the atom is wrong
>>
It would be neutral from far away. In the near field however, there will be fluctuations with time. Example: water molecules are neutral from far away, but close by they still attract due to their charge difference on the oxygen and hydrogen sites.
>>
>>7849015
What would constitute true chemical neutrality then?

my understanding of chemistry is limited to pool chemistry.

>if you don't understand something intuitively and find yourself keep asking for help about it, just give it up

This is probably the best advice I got but too late. I wasted years trying to get good at STEM subjects but to no avail. It was only too late that I realised trying to get good at STEM was essentially a sunk cost fallacy for me. I hope this helps someone who is in the same situation I was. If you're getting stuck and frequently find yourself asking for help for like a math or physics, just drop the subject immediately without thinking twice. Ignore all the people who say "you can do it, anon!". Its a straight up sunk cost fallacy. Don't let it ruin you. Find something you like doing and can realistically get good at.

>>
That is terrible advice, lol

it's not sunk cost because you develop the greatest problem solving ability from struggling through problems and finally solving them with a flash of insight.

I know 4chan is just trolls and people trying to bait eachother with discouraging advice and telling eachother to commit suicide but come on.

you tie data to regions and faces

∆ frequencies of particular Single point mutations are used

ethnicity isn't a thing unless you're tracing tribal origines, look at the data from the Ashkenazim jews
>>
>>7848686
Since when are ethnicities based on haplogroups?
Ethnicity is a much older concept than that.

>you don't
That's what I think as well, but how do I proof something that doesn't exist?

>∆ frequencies of particular Single point mutations are used
Can you break that sentence down to me a bit?
Do you locate those mutations in the current time or might they reach into the past?

if i get a Physics degree, can i still do certs like in CAD and work in engineering as a technician or something? i'm just curious about my options, like if you have to be accredited to be an engineer no matter what, of if there are other positions that are technician tier.

>I don't want to be a physicist or do any kind of related work in pure physics
>I want to be an engineer/work in engineering

What is the best choice?

A) Get an engineering degree and become an engineer

B) Get a physics degree, then spend months getting certifications, then spend years looking for an employer so thirsty for employers that he choses me over a real engineer, and then get paid only 50% of what the real engineers are making.

YUP! B sounds like the best way to go!
