How do we effectively kill invasive species /sci/?
pic related: the asian ladybug. Introduced in American and Europe in the '50s and is now the main ladybug species there. Native ladybug populations have fallen dramatically because of this
>>7894252
I know you're trolling on the /pol/ part, but invasive species are a threat to the global biodiversity. Science can learn a lot from nature, but at this rate there won't be any special or interesting species left in the future
If /sci/ knew the answer invasive species wouldn't be a problem
I've read it across various boards, but never really got it. Why is compsci seen as a meme? The curriculum is definitely easier than say math or physics, but some claim that the whole discipline is a joke and stopped developing significantly since the '70-'80's or something. And they scoff whenever there is a mention of
>compsci
with their anime reaction gif.
Can some1 give a serious explanation of this meme?

Shouldnt software engineering gain the respect of other engineering disciplines?
Ideally your shit comes out as a smooth, single turd that barely requires wiping at all. But how many people consistently have good poop like this? How do start taking shits like that, what to eat etc? How doable is this still in this age?
Just eat a lot of fiber from various sources.
just eat lots of fiber and drink lots of water.

I use like one roll of TP per shitting session. I think this is the cause for my shitposting.
Hey /sci/, I have a questions:
Is there more doors than people in the world?
>>7893872
Are we including car doors? If so, it's an unequivocal yes. If not, I still think there's more doors but I'm not as certain as if we're including car doors.
maybe, maybe not
probably more humans actually
Considering that in third world countries like china, india, africa, the middle east and also most of south america, people just do not have doors as they are safe without them. I'd say that there are more people than doors.

It's good. Also look at IFR and ThorCon.

I assume tritium control and for additional safety margin.

What are /sci/'s thoughts on linguistics?
Chomskybois please restrain yourselves
1. All science and math related topics welcome.
>>7892990
Linguistics is a science. It's not even a soft science; it's fucking science.
>>7892988
I think linguistics is an extremely interesting and promising scientific endeavor, but it's unfortunate that there's so much disagreement among professional linguists. almost every subfield has a few divisions. in historical linguistics you have strict neogrammarians vs lexical-diffusion people. in morphology you have word-based vs morpheme-based approaches. in semantics it seems like nobody agrees on anything. in phonology you have mostly optimality theory people but there are definitely dissenters out there. then of course there's syntax, where there is substantial agreement among a plurality of linguists around minimalist/biolinguistic/chomskyan syntax, but there are a ton of (vehemently) non-mainstream proposals like the different kinds of categorial grammar, construction grammar, hpsg, lfg, gpsg, and other things.
Imagine a completely empty universe except for two hydrogen atoms. They are both separated by a googleplex lightyears, will they ever meet by gravitational attraction?

That picture violates the Aufbau Principle.
REEEEE
>>7892984
Yes
>>7892984
It depends on their relative velocity vectors. The possibilities are:
- collision: this is a singularity that requires perfect initial velocity including stationary relative to each other
- orbit: they go into orbit around each other
- hyperbolic/parabolic: they interact and go their separate ways.
Given their distance and mass it would be unlikely they ever meet.

If you're not resourceful enough to get a job using your math degree you're a pathetic human being.
Count yourself lucky that you enjoy studying STEM. Try getting a high-paying job in today's society with only a philosophy or lit degree.

Why hasn't he published any well-cited papers? Where's his alleged revolutionary theory in theoretical physics? Two papers (both co-authored) while a graduate student in physics is not what I would call "an IQ higher than Einstein".
>hurr muh IQ
>einstein
>fysöks
Can we stop with these bait threads already?
>>7892321
IQ does not ensure results in math or physics, it will only help one understand these concepts.
He published what’s known as Barnett’s identity while working on his theory of quantum astronomy:
[eqn]\sum_{n \,=\, 0}^\infty n \,=\, \frac{{\rm e}^{\mathrm i \pi}}{11.999\dots}[/eqn]
He derived it by thrice iteration of integration operators and by evaluating non-trivial zeros of real valued second degree polynomials of a single variable. A very difficult work in topological probability theory.
Small question real quick how come NO isnt an ion but rather a normal molecule? N needs 3 electrons to get to 8 but he can get only 2 from O. I would assume this would be an NO- ion but according to Wikipedia its not. Explain please

Can I say that all real numbers that can be represented as the length of the one of the sides of a 2D object are not transcendental numbers?
Can I say that all real numbers that cannot be represented as the length of one of the sides of a 2D object are transcendental?
Pic related (sort of?)
Bonus points for examples?
All trascendental numbers have length and limit. The only thing you can't do is use transcendental numbers as results to fractions.
Sorry, sorry, forgot to add a condition.
The 2D object in question is an object that can be drawn with straight edge and compass in a finite number of steps.
I have a pure math degree. Decided to study mathematics that applies to CS. I don't give a shit about making video games, programming or any of the traditional CS shit.
The people I know think pure math and theoretical CS is useless and the only useful thing in CS is around making shit like web apps or programming. They think if you don't program then you aren't doing real CS. It pisses me off and I can't think of a good way to justify pure math or mathematics applied to CS. im really a mathematician pretending to be a computer scientist. What kind of arguments can I make to convince others theory is important?
>>7891867
Step 1) Stop being an insecure shit trying to convince an arbitrarily small number of people about your views (even if you're more intelligent than them)
Step 2) Thank me (your welcome)
I can't help but think that a need to prove the validity/applications of what you do to people who aren't from your field or understand your field (along with the field in which applications or validity is present), is just a bad, bad, life skill for any pure mathematician.
If you discover something solid, someone or the other is going to get it to use.
If you're just trying to make people appreciate what you know, it points to weak character.
Do you really desire for others to see what you see so badly? You spineless dependent slug?
>>7891882
Thanks for the excellent reply. I mostly targeted it towards someone I know (close to me) that values programming knowledge over mathematically 'useless' knowledge (or useless in the sense it isn't meaningful unless applied).
You're completely right. This speaks more towards my own insecurity and need for validation and dependency. I don't need to justify studying to anyone. Plus, I don't really know if I should say I study "computer science". Most the programmers I know don't even know basic math & I don't program shit. Hank's for the reply anon. Saved it for future reading.
>>7891867
can we stop these threads where computer "scientists" try to convince us that the maths they do is in any way significant or rigorous.
As far as I could Google, this guy has no degrees in anything.
Yet he is a famous "science guy".
