Considering that depression is correlative with a high intelligence, does this not mean that anti-depressants are intelligence reducing?

>depression is correlative with a high intelligence
<citation needed>
>>
>>7969452
As you said, it's just correlation.
And even if high intelligence implies higher risk of depression, these two things are certainly not biconditional.
>>
Tumblr proves your theory otherwise.

In all seriousness though, psychology fag here. High intelligence is correlated to depression, not the other way around. Like saying all Catholics are Christian, but not all Christians are Catholic (poor and unrelated example, but you should get my point now). Depression drugs don't decrease intellect, but inhibit certain thought processes that focus in the areas of work ethic. If work ethic is directly connected to intelligence, your theory is true. However, it isn't.

Suffice to say, antidepressants do fuck up smart people, just not by reducing their intellect.

Why is UFC champion Jon Jones so much whiter than his superbowl champion brother Arthur Jones?

What explains this scientifically?

>>
Lots of US slaves had sex with mostly white slaveholders.
Lots of mixed babies.

http://www.cell.com/ajhg/abstract/S0002-9297%2814%2900476-5
The average African-American genome, for example, is 73.2% African, 24% European, and 0.8% Native American

They look whiter because some of their grand grand parents were white.
>>
>>7969379*
So Jon Jones likely has a lot more "white genes" in him than Arthur Jones.
Or they have equal amount of European genes but they're more dominant in Jon Jones.

Intelligence and conciousness are really complicated phenomenon that we do not understand properly - and psychology and sociology are weak and pathetic attempts at tackling arguably one of the most fundamental questions humans have ever asked.

If the vacuum has energy, spacetime being infinite means there is infinite energy in the universe. Does this mean the universe ends somewhere?
8 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
There's a finite amount of vacuum, I have no idea what I'm talking about btw just guessing
>>
>>7969244
The universe doesn't end until all energy ends which means that it is inherently infinite. Matter being a product of phasic energy means that upon interaction with "absolute zero" (the closest thing to "end of the universe") would either cause matter to reformulated itself or otherwise immediately and effortlessly reconfigure "absolute zero."
>>
>>7969244
You can't really define energy properly in general relativity,

I've got this gyroball I've had since highschool that I used as physical therapy when I broke my arm.

I use it now and again when I'm thinking, and recently, I tried using it in a train car.

Usually, I just flick the ball with my thumb and spin it with my wrist, but this time I couldn't start it!

Why couldn't I start the ball? I believe it has to do with the conservation of angular momentum, but can the physicists of /sci/ explain it?

If i was in space, could I start the ball?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Lel it's got nothing to do with angular momentum. These things wear out very easily. You need to open it and oil the small rod that holds the ball inside.
>>
>>7969189
I can start the ball now though. I just couldnt start it in a moving train car.
>>
you are autistic and couldnt do it with other people watching?

Hello, I have a question. I decided to come here because /wsr/ seems like they fuck around too much. so my work place has been screwing me out of money by not paying me. I calculated how many hours of work they owe me. The only problem is their paycheck system converts minutes into decimal percentages. For example: 18 hours and 30 min would look like 18.50 on my paystub. With that being said, I worked 18:35. What would 35 minutes be out of .100 if .100= 1 hour?

>What would 35 minutes be out of .100 if .100= 1 hour?
That's not how it works, dumbass. You just described 18.50 being 18 hours and 30 minutes so clearly 1.00 = 1 hour

And fuck off with your kindergarten math.
>>
I am a dumbass, which is why I came here for help with my simple problem. Wouldn't 18:35 equal to something around 18.58?
>>
>>7969101
50/30
then
take that answer and multiply it by 35
so you get 18.583repeating

What do you mean what does the logic gate look like? Have you any idea how things like clocks or stopwatches are implemented in digital circuits?

Look up binary coded decimal and 7-segment displays. Basically there will be a digital circuit that keeps track of the time in a four-digit binary coded decimal and then each one of those digits will be sent to a 7-segment display multiplexer.

Keep in mind that the gate configuration in pic related isn't nearly the entire thing nor is it the only way to do it.

Are there any orthopedic doctors that frequent here? Specifically spine specialists?

Friend of mine has a rareish case of double scoliosis where the back curves like an s but it also twists near the bottom and shoves her ribs into all of her internal organs. So far she can't get a straight answer out of any doctors/ specialists as to what she needs or she hears conflicting stories as to what would be best. This may not be the place for this but at the very least it's a pretty interesting science topic on spines/vertebrae manipulation.

>>
I would think a harrington rod procedure would be best but there are some new spinal fusions procedures coming out that I'm not very knowledgeable about
>>
>>7968988
She's probably having a hard time getting a straight answer because none of the doctors or specialists know for sure and don't want to give her advice that could be damaging in the long run.

I feel really bad for people with spinal injuries, I literally could not even imagine. I wish your friend the best of luck.
>>
>>7969042
Yeah i guess, but its frustrating that its supposedly their specialty but shes getting a different answer from each one or just no answer at all, and shes constantly in pain which sucks thank you for your wishes though

Just a quick board-culture related question, as I am new here.

Whats the most advisable course of action to take when you encounter one of the low-effort shitposts that litter this board?

More specifically the ones that are like:

>"only brainlets have to read textbooks"
>"anyone who doesnt study at All Souls College oxford is a failure, I know because I'm the best in the whole student body there"
>"when I was a kid I was put 10 years ahead because I was so smart, even though I didnt try"
>"if you havent studied exactly the same topics and subtopics as me you are human scum"
etc etc.

I probably see these posts on 4/5 threads here, and its kinda jarring. My home board, lit, doesnt have anything close to this level of persistent shitposting.

What am I supposed to do when I see these?

Not be a whiny bitch, ignore it, and move on with your day.

Perhaps feel a small granule of sympathy for the sad souls who, after nearly two decades of praise from teachers and peers, find themselves in an odd predicament searching for validation on a Korean octopus wrangling forum; their hearts broken and their lives shallow.

Is it normal for SSRI's, more specifically escitalopram, to induce open eye visuals in the dark? Visual effects are almost on par with those of sedative/hypnotics like benzodiazepines. Any explanation as to how this could occur?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I take escitalopram and have never experienced this or heard of this. As far as I know, SSRI's just inhibit reuptake of seratonin, which has nothing to do with sight.
>>
>>7969245
LSD and psilocybin produce visuals and also interact with serotonin, perhaps OP's neural pathways are configured in a manner which triggers the effects mentioned.
>>
>>7969254
>Anxiety, restlessness, fever, sweating, muscle spasms, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, /seeing/ or hearing things that are not there

Again as potent psychoactive drugs produce visuals primarily through interaction with serotonin, they can also cause a condition known as HPPD which causes a long term but incredibly mild hallucinogenic state in the effected, open eye visuals being one of the effects of HPPD and obviously escitalopram. I had HPPD and during the time I experienced it I had a massive intake of DHA Omega-3 which seemed to impact the open eye visuals significantly. I do suggest ceasing the use of the SSRIs, though, but safely so as they are really quite dangerous despite their approval by the medical circles.

Is the universe rotating? Cosmologists be all like the universe is isotropic. This is dogma! So it can't be rotating. But every large scale structure in the universe rotates (planets, stars, solar systems, galaxies). So why am I supposed to believe that universe is not rotating? Could you design an experiment to measure the rotation of the universe?
