Anyone cop anything neat that's science related lately?
I just picked up this Ohaus analytical balance for $150.00 on eBay. I was half expecting it to be too good to be true, but took the gamble anyway, and I just set up and calibrated the thing and it works perfectly.

My university has some of these in the inorganic chemistry building
You have to put your name in a list every time you use it

Now when a recipe calls for 2g of ground cumin, you are totally there!
Yes, I admit I'm a little jealous.
would anyone like to see my MRI scans?
Yea man, why not

How do we know we are moving forward in time?
Maybe the real force equation is F=dV/dt, and we only see it as -dV/dt because dt is negative due to us moving backwards through time?
>>7972386
>>7972603
I don't understand this, can someone elaborate a bit.
I'm not OP and I'm not a retard.
Also to answer your question OP, if we were moving backward in time then gravity would repel, not attract. That's fine you say, why not? But then the big bang, and the primordial mass that began the universe, would've been the end of the universe, not the beginning. It would've been impossible for that primordial mass to form and end the universe as repelling gravity would be working against it.

Why is it so difficult for people to understand there is no such thing as time. It's just a mesurment for change.
That is it. Everything degrades was quicker then others.
Can I use a random number generator to get hashes, seeding it with whatever I want to hash?
>>7972370
Depends on the generator. Some also take time as a parameter.
>>7972370
you can but it's extremely inefficient
and extremely likely to produce collisions
>>7972370
A hash algorithm should produce the same output every time you provide a given input. That's why they're useful for security.
Can you tell the difference between real research papers and computer-generated ones?

where is this? all I see are paper titles along with computer generated titles
>>7972308
this is a good way to get intesting articles

That's what it is. He didn't mean actual written papers, just the titles.
Ha.

Could plasma weapons ever become a thing?
>>7972199
Possible but unlikely even of we could project plasma at a velocity that it could inflict damage it's near impossible to make it go straight plus the weapon would weigh too much for a human to use
>>7972199
They already exist.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MARAUDER
Only for ships, tanks or ground cannons. Maybe. Think it's impossible to make a plasma gun. Too much energy required for plasma, and for cooling system.
Control engineer here.
Hey sci I was wondering how I could figure out whether or not a bullet would kill somebody by shock alone.
I've been thinking about the possible effectiveness of brewster style body armor I'm the napoleonic era, and while I figured out that you'd be impervious to even massed
Musket fire, I can't seem to figure out what canister shot from a 12 pound artillery gun would do.
Here's the math
Canister shot goes 450 m/s at point blank and 300 m/s at 100 yards before rapidly dropping as it spreads out.
Each ball weighs 1.5 ounces or .0425 kg
They would not be able to Penetrate the armor
We are a assuming a center of mass or chest hit.
Also the point blank ball has 4kj of energy and the ball at 100 yards has 2kj (kilo joules).
Aldo what would the effects of 2-6 if these hitting s person be?
>>7972166
Also if there is anybody good with math you could try to see how much the ball would deflect off of the angled chest plate
By the way I heard a source say that at 100 yards the shock of a ball would kill you, at 200 yards you might survive, and past that you will likely survive.
Thats all with just a great coat and no armor taken into consideration.
>>7972177
Finally, can anybody tell me how deadly a windbusche (millitary air rifle) would be? I've heard reports of lethality at 150 or more yards
It fires a 46 caliber ball, weighing 147 grains / 9.5 grams at 900 fps

What's up with these names
nothing is random, everything is predictable

4chan doesn't even look like 4chan today. Why are they changing everything?
>>7972138
1 divided by [(number of unique last names) times (number of unique first names)]
Assuming ideal randomness and that the 4chan algorithm follows the same pool of random names.
Is the brain limted on what you can learn?
Like speaking multiply languages and muscle memory for playing different songs on instument
>>7972131
Your brain is a system that devoted memory to things it is subjected to.
For example, if you are born into darkness and kept out of light forba certain amount of time, you will be blind for life, even if your eyes work perfectly, with no visual input your brain will not devote any space to sight.
The more languages you learn, the easier it is to learn langues. The more instruments you play, the easier it is to learn a new one. The only limit is the amount of time in the day.

Glass ashtray exploded, much of it still within its own footprint. No cigarette butts to be found.
>>7972119
How hot were the ashes? If there's a significant temperature difference if it's cold outside, then that could shatter the glass.
>>7972121
Mild weather. There were maybe 20-30 butts in the ashtray. I just found it this way in the morning.
>>7972121
This. Also depending on how glass is cooled in construction processes, the molecules of the amorphous solid can take on some weird stress patterns -- prince Rupert's drops are a famous example of this phenomenon. Placing a hot cigarette or cigar face down on the right spot, maybe with a temperature difference to boot, could cause a material failure like this.
Why is it impossible to forget a memory /sci/?
Even though you may have a fuzzy recollection of the memory the feel is not the same anymore....
You can forget a memory, how would you remember something you forgot...
Why do I feel good and fine for a long time then get tfw no gf and long for female touch?
>>7972111
Because choosing to forget it only adds more associations to it in your mind.
