What?
>>7977417
How many and which creatures would it take to be eaten by humans in the span of 500 years?
>>7977414
the frozen mammoths that Tsars ate took tens of thousands of years.
Hey /sci/
I dropped out of high school at 16, been a NEET for 5 years now
I wanna get back on track with my education but I don't really know where to start
I'm really interested in a STEM career, but I was always more of a biologyfag than a hard sciences guy
Can you guys help me out?
>>7977413
Biology is a hard science but don't waste time doing that become an engineer it's a FAR superior degree
Go back to being NEET. College sucks.
>>7977413
Biology is a hard science you twat
If either stars swaped places with the Alpha Centauri system, after 4 years of course, how bright would they be in our night sky and could they even at 4 light years away contribute any kind of heat to our solar system?
>>7977324
Like, pretty bright, like, dude.

shut the fug up
I have a question /sci/
I understand the brain operates on waves and frequencies. Are things such as electronic dream manipulation possible?
>>7977320
Technically, yes. But the devices you'd need to be hooked up to would be in contact with your head. Not just some signal beamed in from somewhere else like a radio signal. It'd need to essentially map out your brain and stimulate it on a 3D grid. It'd work kind of like the way zapping cancer does with radiation, with multiple sources of signal hitting one point from different directions to help prevent false positives.
>>7977326
This basically.
But it isn't possible with present day technology. We're probably hundreds of years away from even the most basic prototype.
Why do most talented scientist/mathematician either end up single or married but unhappy? Even people like Einstein, John Von Newmann ended up divorced at least once.
The godfather of deep learning, 60+ in age, Geoffrey Hinton doesn't even marry.
Is it because of women are a hinder for them in general, or is it just because their husbands are just nerds who don't know how to please a woman? I have heard story about scientists like Einstein neglect his wife all the time because he dedicated too much time for science.
Anyway, Alan Turing doesn't apply here because you know why.

Too busy. Theyre too interested and driven into what theyre doing. Look at Donald Trump, he loves making money, so much so he's been divorced more than once because he didn't spend time with the wifey. As Tracy Morgan would say: "gotta work the vay jay jay"
Post pictures of tough puzzles. Ill start

Post some interesting math problems, not this gay ass pattern bullshit
How would you solve this equation system with trigonometric functions? (If it even have a solution).
$x*(cos(\theta) - 1) + y*(sin(\theta)) = 0 $
$x*(-sin(\theta)) + y*(cos(\theta) - 1) = 0 $
I'm getting the eigenvectors for a rotation matrix. Since I'm such a dumbass with trigonometric functions, it was for me a full challenge to get to the eigenvalues, but I did it with the help of 4chan/sci.
Now I'm stuck again finding the eigenvectors for the corresponding eigenvalues. The equation in the image correspond to an eigenvalue 1 (I get to the equation following some videos in YT on how to find the eigenvectors).
If it's not trouble and someone could at least give me some tip, clue, a trigonometric identity, tell me if I'm missing something obvious or tell me some of that magical things mathematicians do with trigonometric functions.
Thanks in advance.
>>7977245
well, the rotation preserves both x and y
so the angle must be a multiple of 2*pi
I don't know hot to call Tex code here >.<
$x*(cos(\theta) - 1) + y*(sin(\theta)) = 0 $
$x*(-sin(\theta)) + y*(cos(\theta) - 1) = 0 $
>>7977249
let me elaborate. a 2x2 matrix (a linear transformation from R^2 to R^2) which has the form
[ a, b]
[-b, a]
is actually isomorphic to a complex linear transformation from C to C, which is defined by multiplying by (a+bi), or (a-bi) depending on how you want to define i.
so this matrix you're looking at, where T(x, y) = (x, y) is actually the equation
(cost - isent)(x+yi) = x+y
which is exactly
z*e^(it) = z
so e^(it)=1, giving t = k*2pi
How feasible /sci/?

Nuclear power is dead.
>>7977250
N...no
>>7977250
i disagree.
Its actually expanding in usage globally and in the US.
>Nuclear power capacity worldwide is increasing steadily, with over 60 reactors under construction in 15 countries.

Its has a great EROEI and is CO2 emission free

I learned that jellyfish shit through the same mouth they eat through. Imagine being a jellyfish. Going through this would be some kind of living hell. It would be like a real life human centipede.
>>7977218
>Imagine being a jellyfish. Going through this would be some kind of living hell.
Indeed, if jellyfish were actually conscious and had the same nervous system as humans, that would be the case.
Imagine living in the ocean and living in an endless field of shit and piss everywhere

I'm a bit jelly actually, probably better than living in India.

Totally not biased, being from the author of the book.
Of course C is obsolete, that's why all the top CS departments still teach core classes like Operating systems in it.
Do you have aspergers/autism?
Is it true that having high intelligence increases the chance of you having autistic traits and poor social skills?
>>7977037
no, you're just a closet autist. Stop trying to justify it by thinking it's due to the fact that you're UBER intelligent
>>7977037
Yes, I have both aspergers and low functioning autism. I think these traits largely stem from the fact that I'm so well intellectually endowed.
When you outpace everyone to the point of doing laps around them, mentally, it can be isolating. Simple interactions become complex puzzles due to my heightened intelligence, and ability to see more where others see less.
>>7977037
Savantism and autism aren't the same thing, no.
Let's talk about time(physics).
You go back in time and kill your grandfather before he meets your grandmother, therefore you don't exist, and if you don't exist, how could you have killed your grandfather, so by default, your grandfather lives because no one exists to kill him.
Correct me if I'm wrong
Your premise is wrong because time travel is impossible.
>>7976911
Assuming it's possible, mann
>>7976917
uhh.. It's not a legitimate hypothetical question. It's like me asking you to assume something exists and doesn't at the same time.
So. Penises.
After getting some penis enlargement spam, I decided it'd be interesting to look through the actual scientific literature regarding the growth of cocks.
Now, I found that it was thought that when penile tissue grows in response to testosterone, the number of testosterone receptors is decreased, and this was the primary mechanism for limiting the final size of the penis.
I found one paper, however, which found that while adult penile tissue in rats had no testosterone receptors left, the same was not true in adult great apes.
This suggests the presence of another factor which reduces the sensitivity of penile cells to testosterone. I believe the key to penile enlargement is finding this factor.
Now, there's sirtuin-1, which was found to affect the sensitivity of breast tissue to estrogen, so that would logically be my number one suspect.
My primary hypothesis is that mixing a compound which suppresses sirt1 with testosterone will result in penile growth. But where to get such a thing for an experiment..

Nice try, but hackers stopped making that joke a long time ago. Some time around 2433 IIRC.
I don't appreciate you shaming the phallically challenged.
