Why can't a human pick up a 7ft 20kg barbell using 1 arm with the hand placed right at the end of the barbell like in pic related?

The world is doomed without a new techno revolution.

Were are the lighter-than-plastics-stronger-than-steel alloys?
Were are the exotic materials showing unique never seen before properties?

In development, honestly. Materials sciences research is really taken for granted and not popularized because of how boring it seems.

How do we defeat sleep? We could get so much done without sleep, and you would never have to deal with that feeling of waking up or being tired. Current drugs only get you so far, and even then you risk psychosis.

All I want to do is watch my lectures, do hw, shitpost on the interwebz, ride my motorcycle for days, binge on netflix, make more money getting a second, well paid fulltime factory job. I want to be able to drive for 2 days straight only having to take a break to piss/shit, eat, drink, and take in sights.

Could you imagine a world where we don't need sleep in order to function normally? Why haven't we tried figuring this out? Do you actually like sleep, does it give us an excuse to be lazy?

I'd rather not have an 80-hour work week for half the hourly rate, if it's all the, same to you.

Why would you actually get the extra time free? Society will adjust, just like how women working didn't make the average family twice as rich despite having twice the income.
>>
>>7980547
>~ half the hourly rate, if it's all the, same to you.
Are you Gman?
Also, let's assume nobody has to have an double their work hours a week to work full time. But you do make a good point about society adjusting to fill the 8-12 extra hours without sleep.

If you're planning on taking a masters and a phd in the future, just how important is to have the highest grades during your bsc?

Just important enough to get into the program

but it is a predictor of future success
>>
was talking with a friend who said that some of the teachers "preferred" a student who struggled but in the end passed, to someone who passed everything without problem, so that just got me thinking

some professors/lecturers have gone so far as to say that if youre not really prepared, dont take stupid risks, and just blow off the exam, and wait for the "re exam"
>>
>>7980263
Why exactly do they supposedly prefer that?

Is school really worth it now that 5 year olds can access lectures on any topic from some of the best colleges in the world + basically any textbook worth using, all from home?

Yes, because we know you're never going to do the actual work if professor man doesn't tell you to do it.

I dunno man. I tried it for a week straight and it took away my feelings. I was like an emotionless robot or something. Also it made my dick extra flaccid. I didn't know that was possible, but it happened. Never again.

No, I don't think I'm cool.

I think that I still don't fucking know the answer.

It will be years before I take a real analysis class so this will haunt me for a fucking long time.

I thought getting a PhD meant you were a genius.
>>
>>7982035
Honestly most professors once getting their job tend to not remember anything not related to their specific field as they have no reason to. Hell most PhD students do the same shit.

I think he means how much momentum is transferred to the struck object. Not sure how to work. Really we would need to know the properties of this "immovable object" though. Hopefully it's rubber or something.
>>
>>7978093
If the object is by definition immovable, then no momentum can be transferred to it.

I need your help /sci/ my wife is trying to do chemistry and is banging her head against some of these equations and is now in the bathroom in tears because she cannot work it out. I was hoping some of you could help me find the answers. I'm not a smart guy and the work she is doing even though it's just Chem 101 is way over my head so any help you can offer would be greatly appriciated. I will post the question followed by the pages referenced in the question. I need the two empty spaces and i also think the condensed formula for benzaldehyde is wrong.

How did you do in highschool math /sci/? How hard did you find the material, how much did you study, what did you end up doing after highschool.

I got 95% in pre calc and 90% in calc. Did all the homework and reviews, went to all the classes. Ended up being a plumber.
44 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
I got like 80% in calculus I and about the same in pre-calc. Now on my way to studying nuclear engineering, probably going to get BTFO when I get to the serious stuff.
>>
It was a breeze for me in many ways but that was because I loved to read about more advanced subjects so I always was 2 steps ahead from the class. I don't consider myself much smarter than the average, I just found it fascinating since I was little.
>>
I graduated about 2 years ago now, goofed off in pre-calc with my friend and got about an 80%, in calc we got our shit slapped and had to bunker down, still only managed to get an 80%, and in my AP calc class that my friend didn't take I managed to earn the credit and got with guess what, 80%.

Is there any benefit to using MATLAB for scientific simulations over Python?

Python is free, more portable, etc. I've completely changed over. What are your thoughts /sci/?

>>
>>7978499
One good reason (and this argument holds for any language) is that a bunch of libraries just might not be available for Python (yet). Depends on your applications, I guess, but I have not come across a situation where Matlab would have offered me something that Python/Numpy doesn't.
>>
>>7978598

I have medical problems that prevent me from going to college so i'd like to study towards becoming a mathematician at home.

Current my curriculum is

Basic Mathematics Serge Lang
Apostol Calculus 1
Apostol Calculus 2
Gilbert Strang Linear Algebra(with the video lectures)
How to prove it a structured approach

Are there any improvements or additions that you guys can recommend? I'd hate to spend a shitload of hours on something when there's a better option.

Sometimes in the exercises section he adds a whole new topic like modular arithmetic and then never fucking mentions it again.
