hey /sci/, would VLSI be a good field to get into for an ECE student? The only downside I heard about it is that you need the grades to get hired out of college, but I have those.
>>7996656
How many classes have you had dealing with VLSI? Also, how much circuit experience do you have? It can be a very tedious and rigorous subject but you can work at some very cool places
>>7996719
I am a frosh planning out my curriculum for the rest of college, and deciding what track to take for my capstone project senior year. As you could imagine, I have not yet taken any formal classes on VLSI, but do have some experience with circuits. I find the topic very interesting, and plan to self teach myself some basics about it through books as well.
>>7996730
Are there other subjects you are interested in? Your question seems weirdly worded since it really depends on what you find the most interesting subject is. Certainly VLSI can be a good focus area for your technical classed but there are others as well. Do you have any more specific questions that would help guide you toward finding an area of interest?
What is that?

just found it on the back of a Finntroll pick and redrew it; thanks; will think about killing myself :>
Is the Laplace transform an meme and a crutch?

L-tfrm is based, ur mum is a meme
t. EE

nice bait, but for engineering majors this is true laplace is a meme from diff equ. can almost always write as a system of linear first order equations, diagonalize and apply matrix exponential.
How do I get a 99% in the SAT 1 Exam? I know it isn't a hard test or anything but I don't want a 80% or 90%, I literally need to be the highest score or I won't go to college. I know this part is easy, basic reading, writing and math skill but still
Your best strategy would be getting your parents to pay for a tutor to make you practice SAT questions 1,000 times so that you have an unfair advantage among your peers.
>>8000472
math is easy, language you need to study vocab shit and have good reading ability.
>>8000477
the reason I have to get that score is because I'm a poorfag and I need that for the only scholarship I can maybe get, so I'd rather find free online resouces or torrent a couple books
I don't know if i want a degree on computer science or mechanical engineering, so i was expecting if some anon can help me solve this with some intel:
- i really like mathematics
- i really like the physics problems(they feel intangible/mysterious i know it sounds cringy), they seem like they have some porpose( something more interesting then autisticaly solving math equations without seeing it being applied in reality...like it's not enough)
-i really like how optimizing computer science is to solve problems (like creating softwares to attend our needs)
-i've started programming python, css, html but i lost my interest since i didn't really had an objective, so i still feel insecure, like i'm going to lose my interest at some point in a project.
-Even though i like doing physics i don't really know if i just like it because of the mathematics...i don't know what i was supose to feel about that. Some insight is appreciated
you have to narrow down your interests in math and physics first to make a decision, really

do Mech E and learn how to write simulation software. CFD and FEA make fucking bank. my former gas dynamics teacher is working for Lucasfilm making more realistic sandstorms on tatooine or some shit.
>>8000420
you mean find out precisely what i want from each one?If it's the case it would take a lot of time...like a degree's
Hey /sci/ how would I go about cleaning unknown chemicals out of a Buchner funnel/flask? I've got two of of pic related, and a few other things I came across.

I use this stuff in a turkey baster to unclog my drains.
Oy kiddos,
did you ever realize that some people's memories are in color, while most people remember everything in black and white?
>Be at a kebab with a friend
>TV shows shitty turkish love songs
>Make fun of "remember" scene in love song because black and white
>Friend tells me she remembers everything in b/w
>TFW
What about you? Are your memories on old-fashioned black and white or do you remember things in Ultra HD true color?
Do you have any explanation for this?
>>7998926
>memories in black and white
dafuq?
I didn't know it was possible...
>>7998926
>most people remember everything in black and white?
What? Do you have a source to back that up?
Did more than just one friend even tell you this?
I can't say this is true for me, at all.
OP here
By now I asked all my friends and colleagues. Around 70% say that their memories are in b/w
Do you ever think about how alien civilizations would have developed differently under different circumstances?
For example how would a civilization on a planet with very little oxygen have progressed? Fire/combustion/combustion engines might not have been developed.
Would a civilization a planet with lower gravity and/or thinner atmosphere have developed space travel much sooner than we have? For example, getting into Moon orbit from the surface of the moon requires about 1/5 or 1/6 the delta-v required to get into Earth orbit. Would a civilization on a planet with a much thicker atmosphere and higher gravity ever develop space travel at all?
Will a civilization in the distant future (after the galaxies move even further apart) be able to measure redshift of the galaxies and figure out the big bang the way we did? What things might a civilization in the distant past (1st or 2nd gen stars) have been able to observe/deduce that we simply wouldn't have a clue about?
Sure this /r9j/ waifu is cute,
but she must be aware that she has too small tits and broad shoulders to be that cocky in this beach webm
I don't think there is a credible answer to your question, although I might be wrong somebody might be inclined to ponder more science informed sci-fi
How well would life develop on a planet with low oxygen?
>>7998403
I don't know anything about biochemistry. How possible is it that there are biological pathways that require little oxygen? For example I think the earth didn't have much oxygen in the air until photosynthesis evolved.
If your brain gets broken into atoms and then reassembled into exactly the same pattern as before. Just exactly the same as it was. Would you still have your conscious, meaning will it be like you were always you?
it's not voluntary to think 5 dimensionally, but here goes. the theseus' ship analogy explains a lot about the nature of how karma as one might call it relates nothing to the effervescerated spirit of what you know as a mass of matter. it's just atoms, ha-ha, but NO fuck NO it's way obtuse to assume things can't be the other way around just as general relativity loses its predicting power to quantum mechanics. to quantum mechanics, general relativity is just as ridiculous. qm can't explain shit even so much as realize kinematics. so why would you go to extremes and think that because picturing particulate matter is easy you have even the slightest sense or clue of what is going on at the macrocosmological. your whole body might be your soul. it might be your heart in resonance with your nervous system. who knows. atoms aren't systematic.

Is there any actual way that we could produce a fully working, no attachment needed and lethal light saber?
Is containing enough light within a cylindrical light saber shaped field even possible? What would I need to study to do this? I need to make a light saber. I feel seriously attached to this goal right now and for the life of me I need to make a real fucking light saber. It is my life's calling. Would there be other ways of achieving the same goal? Could plasma be contained in a magnetic field to achieve the same goal?

Can a person successfully ride a bike on a treadmill? I feel like both sides have good arguments. Yes because the bike is still making the same movements as if it were covering ground. No because no matter what the bike itself is staying still and has no forward momentum to keep it going. Discuss.
>>8000432
Can a meme successfully ride its way up the /sci/ board? I feel like both sides have good arguments. Yes, because the meme is still hilarious and causes people to make the same arguments as if they were covering ground. No because no matter what the meme is, it is staying still and has no forward momentum to keep it going. Discuss.
>>8000432
Seeing as I can cycle up a hill extremely slowly I am going to say yes.
>>8000449
Its actually a good question, and there have been a number of experiments regarding how bicycles impart balance because the answer is not nearly as simple as the problem would appear to be.
It did get answered tho, and it actually has nothing to do with forward momentum (this should be obvious, if you think about reference frames) or more surprisingly, gyroscopic stabilisation from the wheels (they made a bike with tiny tiny wheels and you can ride it no problem).
The answer is simply that you have to have dynamic friction, or motion, between the wheels and the road. Sitting still doesnt give you the force you need to keep balance, but moving allows you to use the wheels, no matter how small (at least up to a point) to grip the road and easily exert balancing forces.
So in short, yes, you can ride a bike on a treadmill, though it might be hard to get started.
What kind of thing is this?
Any butterfly experts on right now?
Do not touch my sci board friend it is a bee from the insect speicies do not you hurting fagg.
i am repeating do not touch the bee! it will stink you it is mechanism of defence for protect from predators
i know you are not preeed itor but do not be hurt /scie/nce user

has anyone noticed that /sci/ has been invaded by highschool level math problems?
It's been like that for 2 years already.
