If the Rate of Evolution is so much faster in organisms with shorter generation time, how come bacteria haven't majorly evolved in the last 100 years since we were able to observe them?
How come e.coli hasn't for example grown a flagellum,or shows other changes to the e.coli that were observed thousands of generations ago?

Because hey are quite suited for their environment.
evolution requires sufficient environmental pressure famalam.
Bacteria DOES evolve very quickly, which HAS been observed. With, believe it or not, E. coli:

What is the bare minimum background I need to jump in? What are the Category theory for idiots beginner guides? I want a good intro text for noobs and learn all the required math background under it before I start.

Is the Universe infinite for finite?
Now give me a straight answer.
I don't wanna hear "we don't know", "define finite", "it is what it is" bullshit.
Just give me the real answer.
>>8064600
in the way the current accepted idea is, it certainly points to the universe being fifnite at a given moment of time. However due to accelerating expansion into the darkness brings into question the limits of the universe. Howerver of course if you were to freeze time, and travel faster than light the universe would be finite, but due to the bounds of reality, it could be certainly considered infite. But as a real straight answer, yes it is in a givn moment. :)
>>8064621
So if the universe "doesn't have an edge" as they put it, then is there infinite galaxies?
If it has an edge, is there a "furthest galaxy"?
Could such a city ever exist?
No. We know of no means to levitate buildings like that.

Genuine question - what's the point of Mensa?
After attending events/talks and reading their material, the people there just seem to enjoy wasting time together, rather than doing any actual academic work. But growing up as a kid, people had always spoken so greatly of Mensa. What's happened? Was Mensa initially good?
no it was always a sub-masonic self-praising shitfest

What do you think the file size of the universe would be, assuming it's a simulation?
No Man's Sky is estimated to be 15gb-20gb, and it has 18 quintillion planets. But that doesn't include things like human memory, languages and the music of the world, or the incredibly realistic textures that make up our reality. There's the fps game .kkrieger, which is 96kb total. It is entirely procedurally generated, but still looks passable (see attached image)
I've looked at every test that mankind has done to determine if the universe is a simulation, but I only looked at those tests to be humored. It seems foolish that a human would be able to develop a test to determine if the universe is a simulation while simultaneously assuming that the entity/entities responsible for the simulated universe wouldn't have taken that test into consideration.
I would venture to guess that π is the raw code for our universe, since it is infinite as we assume is the same with our universe. π would be parsed and interpreted using another mathematical constant, like e.
Remember Newton's Flaming Laser Sword while in this thread - "what cannot be settled by experiment is not worth debating". Obviously we can't settle the universe as a simulation by experiment, so it's not worth debating, but the discussion is still fun and interesting.
>>8056186
The number of distinct quanta would be a decent starting point
>>8056187
Yeah, you'd need every subatomic particle, its position, and movement vector inme privileged reference frame that ignores relativity and has an instantaneous, universe-wide concept of "now".

inme = in some (keystrokes got eaten)
I have a theory that most people are bisexual, and while this is very likely a horny crackpot theory, I would like to posit it to /sci/ for condemnation or confirmation
I think this because humans are very much social animals and sex is a good way a resolving conflicts between two competitors (like in bonobo society) so I think humans were born naturally able to do it with both sexes.
The main reason is this: For most of human history and in some tribes, homosexuality has been matter of fact or even praised as a pure form of sex, but because we are social and develop culture, we are also adaptable to new cultures and able to "turn off" certain behaviors in order to follow the norm. so therefore, because of the rise of Levant culture and identification and condemnation of homosexuality, we "turned off" that part of ourselves in order to follow the norm.
Additional stupidity
>the sensitivity of the anus and prostate implies anal sex was not only biologically allowed, but adapted to give us pleasure, although this could just be crossed wires.
>In the studies that try to detect this, most participant get erect/aroused to same sex porn, even if they claim otherwise. This implies that, even if the party involved does not personally enjoy it, homosexuality can arouse the majority of people.
>The lack of diversity in porn/people means that homosexual behavior can't be explored much out side of the norm at this time. Because of the internet, people are starting to explore more.
>the Trap mentality: AKA the "i'm not gay, I just like sucking dick" phenomenon
So what do you think /sci/?
just based on personal experience, i think everyone is bisexual, but most have a preferential bias
I think every human has an innate ability/fetish/appreciation for genitalia male or female and everyone expresses this to different extents because of social conditioning, intelligence, whatever else lends to their various propensities.
>tldr everyone likes dicks and pussies
inb4 closeted denial fag, live with my bf and get my dick sukt everyday. I've fucked 11 girls and 3 guys.
I think it's more likely that sexuality is a choice, and good people choose to become bisexual.
I chose.
People are finally waking up to you stupid science bitches. They know that your secret language is spooky and they're not going to take it anymore.
Be honest with me /sci/. Show me your runes, tell me what they mean.
