One of the best ways to combat climate change is to take excess CO2 and react it with basalt. The problem is that right now it's too expensive to do and no one really has a good idea of how to excessive atmospheric CO2 and pump it into the earth.
I'm sure if someone figured it out they'd be a fucking billionaire over night.

I have always been shitty at math, but have recently chosen to go into science. This requires mastery of calculus. I am currently in a geometry class that I will pass comfortably. My issue is that I want to take an Algebra 2 course, but I can't because I took the course in 2008. I forgot literally everything except how imaginary numbers work (don't ask why that stuck out). The college will not let me retake it even though I submitted a request citing my forgetting everything, claiming that I have "no legitimate reason." It will only allow me to take Trigonometry. Is it possible to take Trig without taking Algebra 2? Is it wise? I asked a friend who's a math guy and he told me that most of Algebra 2 isn't used in Trig, and most of it is gone over in Precalc, so I wouldn't need to take the class anyway, but I want other opinions.

Starting with the release of Oliver Stone's Snowden, I think a significant amount of people will respond pretty terribly to the idea of being recorded constantly. It'll drive a lot of otherwise healthy people mentally unstable and reclusive, let alone anyone suffering from depression, anxiety, obsessions, compulsions etc etc
At some point no amount over government lies will hide the fact that everyone is being monitored by them and hackers. And the degree to which they will have access will only increase exponentially with technology.
I cannot imagine how much worse AI will make this.
Am I blowing things out of proportion? Am I totally off even?

Why would you learn any language besides English if you want to do research mathematics? Everyone else around the globe learns English to communicate their mathematical ideas, not the other way around. See: Perelman, Mochizuki, and of course every other professional modern mathematician (I just noted those 2 because most people on /sci/ will recognize their names immediately).

Why is Pure Math so glorified here? It's honestly the least marketable thing you can do with mathematics amongst all the majors that require a decent amount of mathematics.

Hey /sci/.
I'm trying to cultivate a fungus, but every time I start a crop another fungus always invades and kills my culture. Temperature and humidity control doesn't seem the problem - I've got a fairly rigorous setup that I check very frequently and sterilize thoroughly, so I'm thinking maybe the grain I'm using is contaminated? I kind of went the cheap route and used bird seed, so is there either a way to purify the bird seed before introducing the culture, or should I go with a different kind of grain? Recommendations?
