You can use a bijection to prove the interval A=[1,∞) is the same size as B=[2,∞), as any number n of A has an equivalent n+1 in B.
Question is: can you prove [1,∞) = or ≠ (1,∞)? If you try to make a bijection you would have to add an infinitesimal, which is more of a concept than a number you would add to a number set, so i'm really confused on this one
>>9112859
>can you prove [1,∞) = or ≠ (1,∞)?
They're equal since both have cardinality of the continuum.
>>9112859
The difference is in the first case you look at whole numbers only, while in the second case you look at all the reals. Otherwise (1, inf) would just be [2, inf) lol.
map each non-integer to itself and each integer n to n+1, there, a bijection
Have any of you heard about this case? The boy claimed to be in agonizing burning pain frequently all over his body but the doctors couldn't anything going on physically, so they concluded it could be from his mental condition which he suffers from. He sadly eventually comitted suicide. Are there any medical peers here or doctors that can chime in their perspective please. I'm curious. Here's a link: https://www.google.ca/amp/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.3829839
>"I can't get through three pages of a book," he said. "Just to get through the first two would leave me with six hours of pain. I can't read, I can't write."
Is this what brainlets go through?
I thought they were exaggerating.
>>9112923
He obviously had mental illness you prick, im just wondering how he could feel like he's burning all over his body when during examination of the physical body there's nothing going on, is it hysteria?
>>9113029
He had OCD.
OCD is linked with brain bugs.
He should have switched to a ketogenic diet and then done a couple of water and dry fasts.
Autophagy would have fixed his little brain for good.
What a quitter.
what weapons will space combat be fought with? will we use small ships or big ships?
I heard nukes are ineffective in space, is that true?
>>9112689
Either lasers or very fast projectiles.
There's no attenuation or air resistance in space, so both of these don't have the same drawbacks they do in atmosphere.
Railguns would work well if you have large enough superconductor or similar.
Launching shells with nukes is more compact, maybe more powerful too.
Lasers are most compact of all and would make for effective reusable small drones.
You'd want to make the other things on drones, too, though they have to be bigger.
Nukes in the explosion sense are bad because you have to get close, which is not very efficient in the vast expanse of space.
>space combat

Just play Children of a Dead Earth.
Do you regret getting your Masters/Ph.d?
>>9112352
Yes, I regret getting a physics Msc (only managed 3.5 gpa, am now left with useless degree)
No.

how are men and women different in the brain beyond environmental factors and our socially contrived definition of intelligence?
>>9111246
Male growth and development =/= female growth and development. Yes males are on average smarter according to our definition of intelligence.
>>9111246
Hi /d/
How are things going?
our pattern of thought is very different, girls and boys interact with their friends very differently and favor different activities from a young age
society does not impose personality traits on gender, gender itself is what does it, sorry if I 'triggered' anyone
1/0=infinity
Prove me wrong.
infinity=1/0=1/(-0)=-1/0=-infinity
>>9110800
1/0 = every number simultaneously
>>9110800
The proof is trivial.
Assuming the axiom of infinity, the following holds trivially.
[math]\epsilon_0= \kappa^{\lambda^\infty}0 = 0 \iff 1 / 0 = \infty [/math]
Using the universal property of [math]\epsilon_0[/math] we trivially obtain
[math]\forall n, \, 0 \cong \pi_{n + \lambda}(S^n) \, /\ \mathbb{Q}^\infty \otimes (\mathbb{Z}^\infty * \mathbb{Z}^\infty)[/math] which is a contradiction.
[math]\blacksquare[/math]
Is microeconomics actual science?
>>9106865
No. It's not. It's a religion
unfalsifiable therefore unscientific but not totally useless
>>9106865
That picture certainly is not

Lmao
Anytime this subject comes up, it's completely dominated by people who spam the same misleading meme images over and over again and accuse each other of being deluded shills.
So I'm wondering: Is it possible to have a calm and reasonable discussion on climate change (both at present and in the past)?
>>9116719
It is possible but not here. There is no obligation to be civil here because we are all anonymous and there aren't even mods to enforce the few rules that there actually are.
I wouldn't do it, but if from now on everyone posted child porn then we would reach the fucking bump limit before any mod even realizes it.
>>9116719
Yes, until /pol/ comes and shits all over it with their retarded conspiracies.
>>9116719
I accuse you pf being a deluded shill. So no, it is not possible.
Are white people descended more from Neanderthals or Homo sapiens?
What are the proportions like? Are we mainly Neanderthals with Homo sapien admixture or mainly Homo sapiens with Neanderthal admixture?
Is Varg memeing for a political project or are journalists being deceptive and/or ignorant?
The admixture is not so much, and it's higher in Amerindian populations. Most of it has been under negative selection.
Varg is ideologically motivated.
Imagine the sex the world's first genetically enhanced couple will have.
why?
>>9116219
Do they even need to have sex?
They've probably streamlined the whole process by then.
>>9116219
Purebred dogs already form "genetically enhanced" couples

Is robotics engineering a meme degree? Would I have better career prospects sticking to a more general electrical/electronics engineering degree?
If you like programming factory lines, go for robotics.

/fit/fag here.
Right, so i've finally realised that to become a /sci/fag, you either have to be: A, very autistic, or B, do shit loads of nootropics (Study drugs).
Since i have discovered your secret, you might aswell let me in on it.
Which nootropics should i get for maximum brain gainz?
Modafinil
NOOPEPT

I'll ask my dealer about it.
Here's the setup.
Partner sitting on Carpet floor with charging apple laptop.
Me on bed holding charging Samsung phone.
When we have contact, eg. /Hold hand/kiss/nose to nose we get zapped... Sortve like static electricity...
What the fuck causes this???
It's love, the most powerful force in the universe.
Have a nice day anon
One or both of those things isn't grounded well.
why did some birds evolve verbal mimicry abilities? how does this help them survive?
or could it be a vestigial remnant of an even more fantastic verbal ability that an unknown common ancestor had?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7D-1RG-VRk
>>9116037
Bird calls mostly evolved for mating. Mimicry is either to impress mates, or to confuse competitors/predators. There was not some fantastical fallen bird civilization we've yet to uncover.
Yes, in fact Velociraptors had a very sophisticated language, as shown in the award-winning documentary Jurassic Park 3.
Watched Episode 1 of this and Episode 2 came out yesterday.

What does /sci/ make of this? I found it rather disturbing that it's written into US law that people cannot go through the courts for damages done by vaccines to them or their family members. If vaccine companies are concerned for the safety of people, wouldn't they want to make sure that their vaccines do as little harm as possible and demonstrate this through studies and testing?
Please discuss other aspects as well.
