How feasible is this?

Gravity on Mars is too low for humans to live for generations on. In fact, a 100kg weight on Earth only weighs 38kg on Mars. That's a mere 38% of Earth's Gravity. That's a 62% increase in feasibility to have a space elevator on Mars instead of on Earth.

Why?

So that humans can easily get from an orbital space station around Mars down to the surface of Mars and back up. So they can have a ferry from the space station to O'Neill Cylinders. They can live "normal" lives on the O'Neill Cylinders and work as needed on Mars for science/mining/Martian football games/whatever the fuck.

Now, what about other planets or moons, if not on Mars? Where is the materials strength threshold at to allow this to actually happen? Is that threshold so low that it will always be cheaper and easier to just rocket out of the gravity well?

was there once a point in time (or before time) where LITERALLY nothing existed?

there had to have been, right?

I don't know. Maybe the universe is infinite. Maybe the Big Bang, and the current expansion of the universe as a result of it, is just a cycle, and the universe will eventually contract, then expand again.

Maybe it's finite, and the universe will continue to expand until the net tempeature of the entire universe is absolute zero, and all motion ceases.

There are many possibilities.
>>
>>8222368
Actually there aren't.

We know the geometry of our universe, and that tells us that it had a beginning and it will end in heat death

Neanderthals evolved in Europe and interbred with the homo sapiens that moved there from Africa.

Is it likely the phenotypes that separate Caucasians from other human races came from Neanderthals?

Are non-white races "more human?"

Why is neanderthal "less human"?
>>
>>8220619
Coz its more alien. It is known.
>>
you have 2% neanderthal DNA at best and most of it is in non-coding regions, you have 4 times more viral DNA that actually does things for you, asians have more denisovan DNA than whites neanderthal

it does nothing for you

How did this piece of Aristoteles ever even manage to become a paradox.

Are paradoxes even issues we should take seriously, could they all just be miscalculations and false phrasings of words?
58 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>8220239
That's one of Zeno's paradoxes. Aristotle just changed the context.

It's based on the notion that space and distance is infinitely subdividable, which we expect is not the case.
>>
>>8220242
So does stuff get too grainy at the depths of our understanding of matter to be anymore sibdividable
>>
>>8220242

When the math doesn't meet reality, isn't all claims in paradoxes basically about that.

What do you think about paradoxes over all like these, these aren't really even worth thinking about?

I keep hearing "Cowspiracy", "Forks Over Knives", "From Farm to Fridge" and The China Study cited as authoritative sources all proposing veganism as panacea for all that ails us and the solution to environmental degradation/climate change.

It has been known by environmentalists for years that factory farming and large scale agriculture consume tons of resources (especially water), contributing to droughts, emit a disproportionate amount of greenhouse gasses and a host of other concerns for the environment, but has any counter research been forthcoming?

Are the vegans right? Are we to grovel before vegans' infinite wisdom and moral authority?

Tell me, /sci/. What do you make of all this? Are we close to a final word on this controversial topic?

When the climate crash happens coupled with the stratification of the classes means that most people wont be able to eat meat even if they want to in the future.

Explain.
>>
>>8215568
Raising livestock takes a very large resource investment, in the form of water and grain, time and work, etc. If you're poor and isolated, it would serve you more to use those resources on yourself.

Only the rich and powerful would have the disposable resources to enjoy meat

You know something
While visiting the Hospital with relatives I realized modern medicine has really fucked over our species. People with shit genes are allowed to live and pass on their shitty genes, creating inferior people when in a more natural setting, would have long died out and only the strongest, healthiest people would be left to procreate. All these cancers and diseases that don't exist in other animals, only happen to humans because we have allowed it to. And most people don't even choose the healthiest partner when it comes to breeding, they are too stupid to even do that. An ugly person will settle for anyone that makes them feel needed, and stupid people statistically have more children than smarter people. We honestly need another huge natural disaster to just cleanse society from all these genetically inferior people.

>>
>>821780
>Implying you have superior genes
The only place that has real "MUH SUPERIOR" genes is this one town in Italy, where they are immune to heart attacks and strokes as their bodies produce copious amounts of good cholesterol.

>In other words, they can go to 5 guys everyday and not get a heart attack.
>>
>>8217808
>genetically inferior people
There is no such thing. There is only fitness, and it is measured by relative contribution to the gene pool. Besides, social Darwinism doesn't make any sense, and that'd be obvious if you knew anything about evolution. I bet you are one of those people who think that 'natural selection doesn't happen anymore' because of modern medicine, instead of realizing that selection pressures simply change and the process is still very much in effect.

To sum up: you're a faggot.
>>
>>8217849
>natural selection doesn't happen
It doesn't and you know it. Once we left the wilderness and began developing civilization natural selection no longer applied to our species. The only thing left to keep us in check is maybe some huge uncurable disease or unforseen natural disaster.

Is money an unintelligent idea that could be replaced with a better idea? I think it is. Is it possible to create a society that is driven to do things for free and have things provided to them for free?

There are things in especially finite supply that we would have to put some sort of limitation on distributing and i'm not saying anybody could just ask for those.

I don't know /sci/. I just really feel like it's possible. Without needing money to pay for anything we could have a house freely provided to anyone who wants to live an independent life. We could go absolutely ham on the resources we put into scientific research and make more breakthroughs in technology that could create a self sustaining utopia world.
And it is just really a stupid idea that we need to put in time and effort to afford something as basic and necessary to life as shelter. Why do I need to worry about the possibility of getting fired and not being able to afford my own home? Its so backwards and stupid. Those things should be freely provided in a civilized advanced world.

And not to mention our combined force of financial academics worldwide cannot stop this debt problem we have. It seems like the problem has gotten too complicated to solve and we should just give up on it. Just throw our hands up and say "Ok, money was a really stupid idea. We're not using it anymore."

I know how stupid this sounds to everyone but even an idea as stupid as this can grow into something incredible with enough people fueling it and developing it. What if we set up a website community dedicated to figuring out how to make a world work without money? Something like that? I think it could be done.

I'm done rambling I guess. I'm just so absolutely sick of money.

I don't think currency is going anywhere. First world countries are moving toward basic income and heavily subsidised or free necessary food items.
>>
>>8216437
Why would I spend resources, my time and energy, to build you a home for free? It's as simple as that. Money is simply the vehicle through which resources of all kinds are exchanged. Without exchange there is no incentive to do anything.

They don't care about abstract. To them abstract math is basically "not real" and they question how much math I even know since they can't "see" it applied to anything. Since it doesn't make money it is essentially useless to them

Same thing applies to programming. I like to use mathematics in programming and do a bunch of toy problems. Since it isn't iOS development or making money it is useless/not real.

I feel like everything I do is meaningless since it doesn't relate to the real world despite enjoying it immensely.

I feel like I go no where when I explain what theorems I'm proving or whatever. Like all of it is useless. Especially since I can' t monetize it or do 'real world' things that matter

Why would selective breeding only apply to dogs?

What is the next step for humanity?
after we have cured all the diseases,
complete peace on Earth, nature is in a stable condition, all countries run smoothly and are basically one, technology is at it's peak it is possible by laws of physics..

There are no problems left, there's no way to go.

what's next?

Maybe it's better you people continue being unaware, stupid, worry about meaningless human created mundane problems like.. debts, and money and stuff like that.
Until we the ones who don't spend time worrying about such figure out an answer for that, you keep yourself occupied with all that.
