When we test the significance of a model, we also test if the regression coefficients in that model at the same time can be statistically different from 0.
This is correct right? My friend tells me it's not.

I am a student-mathematician.

The reason Russia lags behind is because of their communist shit. Your system sucks. Do you people even vote?

If you had a positive result from a study of two out of a population of 7 billion, what are the chances that it would be a fale positive/statistically insignificant?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Sample size = 2?
>>
>>8222208

Yes, sorry.
>>
What I'm asking is:

If a study with a sample size of 2 has a positive result and the population the sample is drawn from is 7 billion, is there anyway to calculate the probability of the positive result being insignificant?

Or calculate how likely/unlikely it is to be accurate?

If you could copy your mind into an immortal shell, would you do it? Knowing that you, yourself as you are now, would never see the benefits? Would you be able to watch your copy, a fake, prosper as you wither and die?

Would it make a difference if you put yourself to sleep during the process and then woke up in a new, improved body? Would it still bug you, slowly eat away at the corners of your conscious that you're a clone? An imposter?

What if it went wrong? What if you woke up? Would you try to put yourself back to sleep a second time? Knowing that this time, you weren't going to wake up? It would be final. Your imitation, a mockery of yourself, would be the only winner. Make no mistake, your pretender would be most certainly a completely different individual to you the moment he opened his eyes. He'd probably even have the legal advantage in such a situation.

Is immortality worth it?

The most adequate studying methods to study math and anything.

Why is it so common students lack proper sleep, study poorly hours and hours a day,
even though the evidence is overwhelming that proper sleep is crucial for effective learning?
Why study 16 hours a day shitty, when you could study 2 hours effectively and keep it interesting and get better results?

Lol what. Are you saying we shouldn't
use the scientific method to find the best ways for humans to study different subjects?

If you want to throw away your social life for studies, it's okay, but there are people who get better results than you + have a social life,
because we want to find better solutions.

That is not stupid. Stupidity is to study tired e.g.

I honestly have a lot more respect for Ron Paul, Rand Paul, and Ben Carson now.

is it safe to say that physics is math using reality as axioms and math is using whatever axioms you want?
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>8221562
Partially. Physics is also an experimental science. And every 'axiom' has to be empirically verified.
>>
>>8221562
In physics you try to reverse engineer a set of axioms that describe the real world (with limited success).

In math you start with sets of axioms and work out what sorts of things they describe.
>>
>>8221562
Mathematics is immune to misinterpretation, and it is the language of the universe which is why it is used in physics.

A blue dream vape cartridge is giving me noticeable wall warping effects

Cannabis, giving LSD-like effects. Who knew?

Anyone else know how deep the cannabis rabbit hole can go? When you smoke enough where you're just a hair's width away from greening out, what are the effects and how similar are they to other drugs?
36 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I've smoked a fair bit of weed in my day but no matter how much good shit you smoke it doesn't compare to real psychedelics.

"greening out" is just where you get sick, or you can even pass out. once when I smoked a bunch while on a few adderall I had excessive ear ringing, everything went brown (blurry, darkened vision) and I couldn't think at all, went away after a few minutes.

all in all I'm convinced cannabis in excess is bad for your heart, teeth, gums, vitamins/nutrients and cognitive ability.
>>
>>8221568
Trust me when you have zero tolerance after months without and take a large, large dose of oil, it's psychedelic and psychedelic like for sure, there is no doubt, literally I'm having open eye visuals right now
>>
You can trip pretty hard on cannabis. This is coming from somebody who's done DMT, taken a legendary amount of shrooms in his lifetime, and generally tripped the fuck out a lot on a lot of things.

If your tolerance is low enough and the weed is strong enough, you can have full-on hallucinations with your eyes closed. This is true whether you're fried already or not. Once you've been far out enough on psychedelics, or if you've done them recently, weed can call forth some of that psych's effects. If you're permanently fried enough, tripping a little can just become part of smoking weed.

Personally, one of the strongest and strangest trips I've ever had was entirely cannabis-induced, and it took place before I had ever done normal psychedelics. Anybody who says you can't trip on weed hasn't tried hard enough.

When you think about it we actually have no way of knowing whether or not anything other than ourselves actually exists. We get all of our information from our senses, which are inherently flawed, the universe is little more than an illusion. When will the world of science realize this?

Somebody studies philosophy.

The reason I do science and Engineering is because I personally find it fun and interesting. Plenty of people talk about how science is for the "advancement of humanity" but me and my colleagues agree that the only reason we have the careers that we do is because it's just something that we find interesting. Humans are hard wired to like finding out new things.

This is what Descartes was trying to establish when he said "I think there for I am." The only thing we can be certain of is that we exist, everything else is mere speculation. With that being said, I think Descartes was trying to weed-out all the bullshit, and establish a line of reasoning behind philosophy and mathematics, establish the basis of our knowledge, which we then built on
>>
>>8221529
Then Nietzsche came and Descartes reasoning was completely BTFO with epistemological refute.
