Any glass dry-wipe fags here?

No way, glass boards are for brogrammers, white boards are for thinking men!
>>

I'll put my glass against your white anytyme bro. For one, white is tough as shit to clean, while glass wipes clean in one go like a baby's arse.

I have a mix of white and glass at the office, but none at home. Hoping to get a glass board in the near future, but a double-sided standalone, not mounted on the wall. They're super helpful for working things out, rather than dealing with a mess of failed ideas on paper, imo.

Hello /sci/, /x/ here. This poster >>>/x/18042942 is claiming he can use euler's formula to prove that anti-matter has an "inverse time component" meaning that it moves backwards in time. I have the suspicion that he is full of shit but I would appreciate it if anybody could look over it and tell me.

Who here meditates? I'm getting back to concentration meditation after a break. It killed every social overthinking but now my autobiographical memory went to shit because I don't think about the past.

I'm either asleep or awake though. I can't get much deep into it. Probably because a few minutes to half a hour a day isn't much, but I've done it on and off this year and I can't see stuff or lucid dream during a session. Not that I'm striving or expect to.

I've read about people who claim crazy shit cognitive-wise so I'd like to know if any of you science guys is into it for this purpose. I'd like to get some more motivation to continue since I'm doing fine without.

I don't know about "deep meditation", but sitting a while calmly really helps.
For 15 minutes, just sit somewhere in the sun and watch the leaves blow in the wind and the insects buzz around the flowers.
Don't think of anything else. Nothing about how you feel about it.
Just what you see is all you are.

That really helps me. I don't know if that's meditation or what. But it's something that helps me stay grounded.

It certainly is. Tonight I spent 45 min in a half asleep, half awake state before actually sleeping. Didn't get much out of it. Did not move though, only my mouth and eyes. Slipped in a few shallow dreams. I'm going to do this until I'm aware all night long.

We start with a rudimentary axiomatic system.

Primitive terms: point, line, incidence(a relation between a line an a point).

Axiom 1: For any two distinct points, at most one distinct line is incident to both.

Axiom 2: For any two distinct points, there is at least one line incident to both.

Axiom 3: For any two distinct lines, there is at least one point which is incident to both.

If you're curious as to how we came up with this system, see http://pastebin.com/50w9MYjD, though the axioms have been modified and swapped from there. For now we will take these axioms as given. While not much, these axioms will allow us to prove a few simple theorems. (Ends of proofs will be signified with #.)

Theorem 1.1: Given any two distinct lines, there exists at most one incident to both.

Proof: Suppose we have two distinct line that are each incident to at least two distinct points. Then any two distinct points that are incident to both are each incident more that one common line(see posted pic), in contradiction to Axiom 1. #

Theorem 1.2: Two distinct points uniquely specify a line incident to both points.

Proof: This is simply a conjunction of Axiom 1 and Axiom 2. #

Theorem 1.3: Two distinct lines uniquely specify a point incident to both lines.

Proof: This is simply a conjunction of Axiom 3 and Theorem 1.1. #

These theorems will be used to create a naming scheme for points and lines. Also, note that Theorems 1.1 and 1.2 only rely on Axioms 1 and 2. Thus, in systems where Axiom 3 may not hold, Theorems 1.1 and 1.2 may still be used.

>Axiom 3: For any two distinct lines, there is at least one point which is incident to both.

Wrong. Give the point which is incident to both the line x = 5 and the line x = 6 (in r^2)

exactly.

How'd you wanna do calc without algebra fag?
>>
>>8282356
How are you going to do calculus without a field to even do it on?

>inb4 what is a field

It is a set (like the real numbers) with two operations (like addition and multiplication) and some other special properties you don't really need to know about.

The nature of the field you are pretty much defines calculus in it. High school algebra teaches you, without proofs, the properties of the field of real numbers. Without that knowledge you literally cannot do calculus.

I've been introduced to the Banach-Tarski paradox and the fact that an infinite sums apparently adds up to -1/12.

How can this be provable in strict mathematical logic but not hold up in the real world? What is the difference between the laws that govern our existence and the isomorphism's constructed with mathematics? Is the math wrong or is math not always applicable to the real world?

So, I have been suffering for a year from a series of tiny little bothersome symptoms that have been fucking up with my life. After countless tests, doctors found nothing so they said it was most likely anxiety or stress, even though I showed none of the psychological symptoms.
So I went on a trip to Asia and got rid of all the stress, but symptoms still fucked my shit up so I went to a doctor there and had an MRI done on my spine. They found two of the upper vertebrae were slightly displaced to the left. Hold onto your seats because this is the story of what happened when I came back to my home country and visited my doctor again.

>Go to doc
>show him the report of a Chinese hospital MRI on my neck, two of the top vertebrae slightly displaced to the left.
>"I don't believe that"
>Wat.jpg
>I tell him whether the Chinese doctors are correct or not he can see the results in the MRI results, which I brought with me
>he replies that he is unable to read such that MRI because that's not his specialty.
>He tells me it's all psychological, that it could be fybromialgia and that I should start chewing on antidepressants.
>He then proceeds to tell me that I should visit a psychologist and search for hidden traumas, perhaps a hypnotist.
>I tell him I did, they found nothing, I sarcastically say that the only doctor I haven't visited is a shaman.
>He tells me maybe I should visit one, that sometimes they solve problems doctors can't see.
>He then crowns the whole thing and recommends me antidepressants, homeopathy, hypnotism and shamanism

Sounds like a shit doc given that they recommended a pile of discredited methods. Why do you keep seeing this guy and giving him money for spouting demonstrably wrong bullshit that is far form best practices? Seriously, who can call themselves a medical doctor and recommend homeopathic treatments without being a complete fraud?
>>
>>8282050
I went to several doctors, more than 20 and they all were dumbfounded. The most I got from them was "It's anxiety dood" but they don't really know what's going on.
>>
Similar thing happened to me op. I got swimmers ear from a lake when i was in high school. I go to doc, they give me ear drops. After i finish the drops the shit comes back like 3 days later. This happens about 4 fucking times before suddenly my shits all swollen and the right side of my face won't work, i can't move it.

So i go to a different doctor and he tells me i never had an ear infection in the first place. He gives me viral antibiotics that do jack shit. He says the face weakness will go away in 4 or 5 days.

>mfw its been 3 months
>mfw I'm still a retarded stroked looking motherfucker

What significant advances in medicine can we reasonably expect to occur in the next 10 years?

I'm not talking about huge breakthroughs like a cure for all cancers or something equally huge (unless there is something on that scale that seems likely to arrive soon); but things like new vaccines, new gene therapies, new cosmetic procedures, new organ regeneration / replacement procedures and the like.

Anything good right around the corner?

The Japanese National Institute of Technology (RIKEN - budget ~$800m) is partnering with multi-billion dollar electronics giant Kyocera Corporation and biotechnology firm Organ Technologies to pursue human clinical trials for a new type of hair regeneration treatment, with clinical trials beginning in 2017-2018 and commercial availability targeted before 2020. This is possible because of new laws in Japan which substantially speed up the approval process for new medicines and medical technologies.

The treatment involves collecting a sample from a patient's healthy hair follicles and multiplying it hundreds or thousands of times in cell culture, and grafting it onto the patient. This is a radical improvement on existing procedures which can only reposition existing hair, resulting in a patchy or thin appearance. This method can provide full restoration of aesthetic quality.

Considerable success in animal models has already been demonstrated, and expectations for success in human patients are very high. Clinical trials begin within 2 years.

Composer here. I have a bit of an interest in math, and recently I've enjoyed fooling with serialism and (musical) set theory. In particular with serializing rhythm.

Serialism is a musical technique where compositions are organized around tuples (I hope that's the proper term. They're "ordered sets" in music terminology, which in general conflicts horrifically with math terminology). These tuples represent a variety of things, usually pitches and intervals on the Western chromatic scale (for example the tuple (0,1,6) represents the pitches C, C# and F#).
Composers can do a variety of things to these tuples, transpose them (translate down or up the scale), invert them (reflect over an axis), retrograde them (flip front-to-back), etc.

(Musical set theory is essentially serialism, but covers both ordered and unordered sets.)

Serialism and musical set theory as techniques are usually applied to pitches, but can be applied to other musical things if you're autistic enough. When composer Milton Babbitt practically invented this concept he used the 4-tuple (5,1,4,2) for his rhythms. Of course he used basic serialism and inverted it. With pitches inversion can be described as subtracting each element of the tuple from 12. He didn't use 12 with his set, though, because the resulting rhythm would be 4*6 [whatever note duration equals 1] longer than the original. In order to have these two sums equal each other he used 6 instead. (5+1+4+2=1+5+2+4)

I did some amateur math and got this equation
>B = 2A/n
where A is the sum of all elements of an n-tuple, and B is the number you invert the n-tuple over in order to get a tuple with the same sum. Of course n must be a whole number, and practically-speaking A and B must be whole numbers to avoid a migrane. Since A = nB/2, for A to be whole either n or B must be even.
