I'm not against nuclear plants, but you can't be dogmatic about it. You have to recognize that the safety of nuclear power depends on a stable and reliable society. I would fight to make America a better society, rather than fight to stop nuclear plants, but the people fighting nuclear plants aren't nutcases for taking their stance.

Hello, little niche request.

My grandma (now 80) spent most of her life working in an apothecary and in her days (espacially after the war, I live in austria) herbalism was still very big and she knew a lot about it.
Yet she could never really pass her knowledge on to me as 8 years ago, when I was still young, she had a stroke (due to a bad medicine plan which her doctor was responsible for) and had major problems with talking ever since.
But as I became adult and thus aware of my surroundings I realised I want to gather a lot of knowledge about the plants around me and their use in medicine, yet my grandma will be unable to help me with this goal.

So, what books (or book collections) are out there about that topic? I prefer german, free books and ones available in the net of course and I bet there are a lot of them out there since copyright only lasts a limited time after death, but first I don't know if those books are dated and second sites like Gutenberg offer all kinds of books and do not help in guiding which books are actually good and complete in that topic. If necessary I do not fear visiting the vienna library of course.

Apart from classic herbalism sources on plants in combination with destillation (oils, perfumes, etc) would be very interesting to me as well (as this was partly practised in apotehcaries as well)

So, is anyone of you proficient in herbalism or can help me in finding good sources of knowledge?

For a discussion part, what do you think of traditional herbalism today? Is it more trustworthy or even better than medicine (espacially in petty illnesses where they can be an alternative to the overused antibiotics) or do you think that this is outdated and should be replaced completely by "artificial" pharmacy as it is way more dependable? Where you ever interested in plants and their effects on humans at all?

Btw, as I just discovered this could be misinterpreted here, I am not one of those who wants sources on pseudo-science. If something is proven untrue by todays science, it is very likely to be wrong (referencing to the "belief" part on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditional_medicine)
>>
>>8292715
I was really interested in plants and what use they can be for humans. I considered it a "lost knowledge" of some sort. Also, knowing that you can grow soemthing in your backyard and harness some medical effect from it was motivating for me to start some biotech company. Unfortunately, plants are unpredictable and they mostly have a lot of other compounds in them then the one which you want to extract for, lets say, a heart-disease. So, you kind of never now the right concentration and what you have in one plant. Variability is high and extraction yield might be low. But I am still considering it, especially that one could "optimize" the production of a compound by plants nowadays with genetics or breeding technology. I am in Germany btw...lets get a start-up :D

The cat is either dead or not. It is not both dead and not dead.

What was the point Schrodinger was trying to convey?

You may say it's just an analogy, but fact of the matter is, the experiment could be easily replicated. And the cat would be either dead or not.

>>
The point he was trying to convey was how ridiculous the many-worlds interpretation is, for the reason you stated.

It is both dead and not dead, that is the whole point of the example..

>the experiment could be easily replicated. And the cat would be either dead or not
That was the kind of the point. It shows how different quantum mechanics are from how things happen in the macroscopic world.

I'm currently in high school and I want to work at cern as the people who do the physics. I know some quantum physics and a little bit of particle physics. What colleges should I go to work at cern or work at a place where you need to know quantum physics. And what causes should I take in order. If you want through this can you tell me how hard or ez it was. Sorry for many questions.

When people get ridiculously fat, like american-tier fat, do they have to dedicate a larger part of their brain for motor functions and sensory input, like whales do for example?
They certainly have a lot more skin, and skin with "complex" shapes.

Is there any literature on the subject?

You pretend to be retarded but you actually are retarded.

Fat people have at least twice the skin surface area of a normal person, weird folds and abnormal weight distribution. Even their hands can't reach to places you'd expect them to reach. Literall down a fucking degree of freedom.
Why are you so passive-aggressive? Are you a fatty? And angry fatty?

hey /sci/, i need some help

I'm a physicist who is trying to figure out stuff about personal finance but everyone who should know about this stuff either sucks at math or is simply not quantitative in their thinking. For this reason, I decided to take a shot at it myself because fuck it, /sci/-oriented people are good at this shit.

I made this little net worth calculator on MATLAB that takes your income, savings, investment accts and property, and shows your total assets through time. I'm trying to make it as complex and realistic as possible so I need some examples or real world situations to test this out for bugs.

>pics are for a situation of 2 high incomes with bonuses who just bought a $600k house

I'm still testing it out so I can try your scenario if you give me the following parameters (any parameter that you DON'T give me, I'll just use the default).
>Cash savings (i.e. not in any 401k or IRA, it has to be cash in the bank) (default: $5000)
>Gross Salary (before tax), e.g. $70k gross ends up being $50k net (if multiple incomes, give me each one)
>Annual Bonus as a percent of (each) gross salary (default: 0%)
>Salary increase each year (default: 1%)
>How much do you currently have in a 401k, IRA (or other investment accts)? (default: $0)
>What percent of each salary goes into 401k (or IRA)? (default: 0%, i.e. you have no 401k or IRA)
>Percent yearly growth of 401k or IRA (default: 5%)
>Value of any property you own or are paying (default: $0, you have no property)
>Property appreciation per year (default: 1%)
>Property loan down payment and interest rate (default: 10% and 4%, respectively)
>How long will it take to pay this loan (default: 30 years)
>Monthly non-mortgage total expenses (default: $3000)

There are a bunch of other parameters but it's too complicated to ask for those and they don't really matter.

Anyway, I'm trying to get this to a point that I can put it online without getting spammed by people shitting on me because something is wrong.
