I just found this on fb, is it's a true fact?

correct, and?
where's the interesting content?
What is the most interesting/weird /sci/ related phenomenon you've read about? Give me some fucked up shit.
Entanglement and double slit experiment for me.
Probably that mouse experiment where they shocked a mouse and exposed it to a stimulus then exposed the mouse's baby to the same stimulus and it froze up despite never having been shocked.

So this is a polynomial curve of unknown degree and coefficients, how do I figure out the best fit?
>>8297168
Take differential equations.
>>8297168
use le computer software
>>8297168
what does "the best fit" mean? if you want a degree n polynomial fit, pick n points, and fit a polynomial with lagrange interpolation. you're probably going to overfit if you make n too high, but just try different values increasing n to make it more precise

A spaceship is moving at the speed of light. You are inside the spaceship, in a dark room. You take your flashlight, and try to turn it on. Will the flashlight work in all directions?
No.

that is physically impossible
>>8297155
particles can move at the speed of light

How do you guys study math? My mind always glazes over when I have to read theorems in textbooks/classes.
I'm not bad at math, I do well in my classes but when I am confronted with logic or proofs my brain shuts off. How can I avoid this?
For reference, I found linear algebra much harder than diffeq because of the amount of theorems and terms that you need to memorize and apply.
The reason I ask is because I wish to supplement my engineering degree with a math one but higher level math is all proofs and theorems
We have a name for people like you -- A brainlet. Just let all the hard math to us smarter people.

Pretty simple. You don't really like Math. Sure you may have fooled yourself into thinking that you sorta like math, but deep down inside you find it boring, so your brain just shuts off and you daze off into la-la-land.
You're never going to get good at anything if you don't have some interest.
You're never going to be great at anything if you don't love what you do.

This might be above your level but it's a good start if you want to learn real math.

Depends a bit on your age/level of knowledge.
I will always recommend vols 1 and 2 of this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Quantum-Mechanics-Vol-Wiley-Interscience-Publication/dp/047116433X/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1472160806&sr=1-3
It's by far the single best course on quantum mechanics you can read. Both volumes are mandatory reading.
CS Majors on here -
How do you do it? I'm on my second year and it's the first week back and I already want to kill myself. Literally every single one of my CS classes is nothing but a bunch of neckbeard faggots who circle jerk to how smart they think they are. Considering I'm a fairly normal person and am concious about how I dress and look, these shills presume that I'm just an idiot and they take it upon themselves to mentally put theirselves on a higher pedestal than me, I would assume out of pure insecurity. They all smell, they're all socially inept, and the worst part is pair programming with these stains. I don't hate computer science, but the people in my classes are making me hate it. Is industry like this? Because if it is I want out, now. Is it too late to switch majors my sophomore year?
>>8297049
you're going to get those kinds of people. Should've majored in finance or something
>>8297051
Funny thing is im considering finance, I already have a couple business credits from my first year. Is it too late ?

Guys, I'm freaking out. I was horrible in math in high school. Not because I didn't understand it, but because I slept through class or didn't go or whatever. Basically I just never learned it.
But that didn't matter because I graduated high school and got a job that I did alright in and didn't need math at all. But now that job has ended and I'll be going to college as a first time freshman at 26 years old.
I need some resources, some websites or books or infographics or something of algebra and basic math to help me refresh.

Please keep niggers off the board.
Anyway, what are you going to study? You might find the H.E.L.M books useful - they're all available online (I think legitimately even), and they will cover any mathematics you need for your first year. If you're doing engineering it'll probably cover your second year too. They're workbooks, with explanations, examples, problems and solutions. Do them in sequence. If you find H.E.L.M 1 easy, do it anyway, do the problems, build up speed and familiarity.
You only have to do it once, then you'll be fine for the rest of your life. Also, when I say they cover everything you need, I really mean it. You don't need a supplement to them, they'll even give you some basic physics.
>>8297083
Sorry about the niggers. Won't happen again.
And I'll be studying engineering too, which is why I'm freaking out about being so behind in math.
HELM is the Helping Engineers Learn Mathematics thing, right?

>>8296989
The truth is out there.
Planet X / Nibiru will hit us in November.
>>8296989
Awesome to think about and consider how the world would be if they were real. Which is why the X-Files was so great.
On the other hand, they're rarely, if ever correct, or even sane. The fact that their main perpetrators are the /x/ types doesn't help either.
Is there a way to mathematically model this problem? Sorry if it's a stupid question.
>Let’s say that you have 25 horses, and you want to pick the fastest 3 horses out of those 25. In each race, only 5 horses can run at the same time because there are only 5 tracks. What is the minimum number of races required to find the 3 fastest horses without using a stopwatch?

College is a scam. Do some research and buy the books you need cheaply online.
>>8297541
Unless you're talking exclusively about math or compsci, books and professors aren't all that a good university offers. Well equipped labs that host ongoing research are a very important ingredient of a good college that exposes students to said research and gives them valuable experience.
Was learning advanced mathematics worth it?
>>8296702
Do you really think people here know advanced mathematics? Realize where you are. This board also has nothing to offer as anyone serious about discussing science would do so with his peers and teachers.
