Mass -30 peak at 137 indicates NO2 group
which means theres no acid group like the lad though but just an alcohol group and an aldehyde
then the only question remaining is, how are these attached to the aromatic ring
The multiplicity in the H nmr spectrum indicates a 1,2,3 substitution
Now just the order
For this I turn to the C NMR spectrum, and mainly the signal at 163 ppm
This is shifted too much to simply be the carbon attached to the NO2 or OH group, so I'm expecting it to be the OH group with the pi inducing effects from the NO2 group, which means the NO2 group is Meta with regards to the OH group
leading to this final structure
Just got accepted to do an undergraduate project / research in mineralogy and crystallography for my adviser. Feels gud.

Naw, but low key i feel like i could have been a geo-fag in another life. The only two final frontiers are above us and beneath us. Discover some kickass shit senpai.
Im studying metallurgy, basically geo's cousin.
I deal with crystal structures all day. I even deal a lot with minerals on the extraction side.
>>8327454
It's fun shit senpai.
I'm also (hopefully) going to be doing some detailed cave cartography in Missouri, our club has some maps published on the state and federal level.
Might be working with some engineers on designing a rover. I think they said they needed more geo fags to tell them what to design.

iktf bro. my family is uneducated simpleton brainlets and because I know some basic math and physics I look like Einstein in comparison. But at /uni/ I'm one of the dumbest constantly struggling to get a C because of the brainlet genes
Shit sux yo

What causes you the most trouble while trying to work? The trouble with the work or the work itself?
Anyone else here #HyPEd for a new era of space exploration? With this new revolution in traveled technology we can now reach Mars for a fraction of the cost. And you fools said Mars was impossible!

applying to computer science or math at both university of Waterloo and u of toronto next year. what should I do. Probably want to do math. Which one would be better for employment? U of t ranks higher but for some reason a lot of people say waterloo is better.

Math is the last thing you should consider if you want a job that isn't being a 12 hour per day R&D slave earning $20k annually

Post common science misconceptions plebs have that grind your gears.
I'll start.
This girl in my class told me to kill myself so I get removed from the gene pool and that I was a creepy virgin and I'd die alone. Like, bitch, if I'm never gonna have sex what's the point of killing myself? Clearly I've already been effectively been weeded out of the gene pool by being rejected by women.
What an idiot.
>what do you study ?
>physics
>ewwwww i hated physics in high school, you'll die a lonely virgin retard made crazy anon.
lol as if i wasn't aware of this by choosing physics in the first place, dumb pleb

Are you being sardonic?
Tell me /sci/. How can you get excited about physics and math without having, at least at some level, respect for philosophy. In other words: How can you respect, or rather, find the beauty of science without having respect for philosophy.
>>8327058
You can't. Philosophy and science go hand in hand and mathematical philosophy is the most interesting philosophy there is.
>ask in another thread if anybody has any example of philosophy actually enlightening physics research
>some faggot mentions Witten because of the philosophic underpinning of his math
>turns out Witten DGAF about philosophy either

how significant is iq to learning? is there any point in bothering if your iq is < 80?
>how significant is iq to learning?
Extremely significant, along with a good memory.
>is there any point in bothering if your iq is < 80?
I would tell you to hang yourself, but you probably don't have the IQ to do it in the proper painless way.
>>8327009
Why are you being so rude to op?
How much time are you willing to invest? You can learn a lot without aptitude if you put in a lot of work, and indeed aptitude can be gained with experience. If you pursue what you want with a compulsive single mindedness and are willing to take the time to get there, then I wouldn't worry too much.
Ever wondered what the chances are that you'll ever become a PI? Check out pipredictor.com. You'll need actual publications to compute your score.
Pic related. My score.
About 50% of men have a penis smaller than average. Some compensate by lifting weights at gym, others buy an expensive car.

I'm a recent grad in nuclear engineering and getting into electronics and arduino type stuff. During my last semester I took a course in control theory and I think I found my calling.
Right now I'm in the market for an oscilloscope and wondering if there are any non-standard functions I should look out for. Things that would be more useful to an I&C engineer than an EE.
Suggestions?
Unrelated but I'm a freshman at a community college planning on majoring in nuclear engineering, tips?
>>8326889
Not sure, I never had an "aha!" moment as if the peak of some sort of hill.
Make sure your fundamentals are well conceptualized, lots of my peers had trouble in the first nuclear class we had, lots of people got weeded out.
Pick up this book https://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-Nuclear-Science-Engineering-Second/dp/1420051350
and read ahead if you want to get ahead of the curve.
Lots of classes also used this book https://www.amazon.com/Introduction-Nuclear-Engineering-John-Lamarsh/dp/0201824981
Personally, I just wish I had the work ethic to devote time to studying and doing homework, instead I was in limbo my last two years where I didn't want to study and wouldn't let myself do anything fun instead. First two years were a breeze, but barely scraped by with a 3.0 because I'm a shit student.
Curriculum wise, they made us take an online EE course which reviewed electronics from physics, then covered opamps, simplifying circuits, power distribution, and some other stuff. After the class they threw us into rad detection and measurement where they sit you down in front of an oscilloscope, lots of detectors and industry equipment and very little time to internalize everything. Probably just a Penn State thing.
Be ready to work outside of your field or have good behavior for the rest of your life. Most if not all jobs require some sort of extended background/security check and or export controls. I looked into a CIA internship, and they talk some mad shit about not torrenting for a year before applying to be eligible, that spooked me. Depending on how deep it is, they may interview people in your past, ask about drugs, etc. I've heard that it's best to not lie. If they find out you lied, you'd be barred from working in the industry for life.

solid hydrogen in case of Jupiter
>>8326833
Jupiter has a super-heated solid and very dense core that is made up of hydrogen. There is no surface, there is a point in the layers of hydrogen/helium gas where the atmospheric pressure is equal to that of Earth and you could consider that a 'surface' but the gravity at that point would be 2.5 stronger than Earth's.

You're literally too dumb to be going to university.
>>8327402
I did that for 2 of my classes freshman year. Got A's in both of them.
What brain food do you eat to perform better academically? Me? Pic related
>>8326793
That shit is all sugar and sodium.
You can make it yourself for 1/4 the cost it would be to buy that everyday, and you wouldn't be filling yourself with added sugar and sodium.
My brain food is regular meals I make myself. I perform better academically because I do deep work without distractions in one hour intervals everyday in the corner of a campus library nobody uses.
>>8326802
>That shit is all sugar and sodium
Uh, no it isn't. Read the nutrition facts
>>8326804
I did, loaded with sodium and sugar
https://www.campbellsfoodservice.com/product/v8-vegetable-juice-7/
>640 mg in just 8 FL oz!
>6g of sugar
They claim a serving size is just half of a typical bottle/can. So if you buy a can at a machine and drink it all, you've just consumed 12g of sugar.
Right now, go purchase sugar. Go purchase a 1g measuring spoon. Dump 12g of sugar into a glass. That's how much you are drinking. Concentrated juice is basically broken down with sugars extracted and then pumped back into another concentrate at 2x the amount. That's how they can get away with saying "no added sugar!" because it's technically just added juice.. except they broke the juice down into sugars and added them.
Just buy a juicer and do this yourself
Is it possible to learn vector calculus with little background in differential and integral calculus? I need it for a class soon and I want to try to unfuck my shit up.
no bully
pls respond

Yes
Any book with Vector calc will have some review you can look over to get up to speed.
However it will require focused, determined work to learn by setting yourself a schedule of a few hours per day without distraction and keeping to it, but you will play vidjya and shitpost here instead
