This is the 21st century, not the 1800s
To get the morning going... Are all races equally intelligent? Please corroborate your answer with actual evidence. I'm actually pretty interested in this topic. Also, do you think this difference (if there is one) should be reflected on the society? Finally, do you think affirmative action is good (this one's out of curiosity)?
>> Inb4 OP you're clearly black
>> Inb4 OP thinks everyone is equally capable. Of course having had a "normal"education based on equality and what not that is what I've been told, but I'm clearing my head from everythig I've heard, so no bias
>>8377081
Ignoramous
>>8377072
It's difficult to separate genetic and cultural differences. Nature vs. nurture. The only way to answer this question would be to look at adoptive children of various races being educated by a control group (for example, rich white people).
As far as I know, this has never been done. It certainly hasn't been done systematically, but I also don't think there have ever been any meta-analysis done on existing adoptive children to try and answer this question.
Instinctively, I believe there is probably no quantifiable, purely genetic intellectual difference based solely on race.
>>8377095
It's rather nice that this is the case. I think a lot of people don't make the distinction between culture and intellect too. I mean of course there's more criminality within the black community (at least in the U.S), but it's been less than 200 years since the abolition of slavery. Blacks have only recently (1960-70s) received an acceptable level of equality, and even then conditions haven't been the same in some cases.
Anyways my question was wrongly asked. I'm more interested in the measurable "intelligence". I know IQ tests are very limited, but is there evidence there is a significant difference in IQ between races?

When will obesity be cured by medical science?
When will cancer be cured?
When will stupidity be cured?
When will that thing I don't like be cured?
When will that thing when my older brother tells me I will turn into a millipede if I touch an a millipede be cured (I really don't like it when he tells me that. I cry and I scream. Why is life so cruel?)

Why are liberals so scared of nuclear power?
>>8357149
because they're basing their politics off feels instead of science and nuclear energy was introduced to the world in bomb form instead of power plant form.
>>8357149
Because the average person, regardless of whether he is liberal or conservative, is largely lacking in basic scientific education.

Yep sergio ramos is an atractive gipsy.
Is China going to become the new scientific hub of the world?
The biggest things they're doing at the moment are:
>drafting plans to build a supercollider twice the size of CERN's hadron collider
>building its second space station
>opening up the biggest radio telescope on Earth
Is American innovation slowing down, and will it become very Chinese-centric in the future? What do you think?
I like chow mein
>>8372638
Maybe, maybe not. Depends on China's intentions. To me all their projects look like pure prestige projects to me, i.e. taking things from the west and making them bigger. Whether actual science will come out of it depends on much more than just the machinery. You need to find people who are willing to work in China to operate them, and not just any people, the best. And believe me, Geneva is probably a far nicer place to work at than any place in China. Though granted, China is WAY cheaper.
>>8372651
Well the truth is scientists will migrate where the work is, and where the equipment to do it is. If China has equipment which opens up avenues of research that Geneva can't accommodate, naturally they'll go where the research is even if there's other reasons why they prefer Geneva.

What is the exact value of pi?
4*atan(1)
[math]\pi[/math]
the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter
Things have really spiralled downwards in the last few decades. The population has been bombarded by shittily sourced nutrition claims from amateur health journalists due to the rise of the internet.
Nothing is a fact anymore. Everyone has their own opinions that they "read somewhere". More food cults than ever before.
I can't tell you how sick I am of all the bad science around blogs, movements and the media in general. I want off this ride.

Maybe we should have thought about the potential consequences of telling people dietary fat is evil.
>>8367925
What's the best way to find the truth? Common sense?
>>8367930
Personally I'm of the opinion that a species' normal diet in the wild, at the very least, is an acceptable diet for that species. You can say that natural != better all you like but natural is certainly sufficient, and that's better than being obviously detrimental.
What do you think, is this estimate for real or not?

Transistor based computers can already exceed the brain in terms of calculations per second. But that's missing the point because what makes the brain special is its architecture, not how "fast" it is

Hey guys, I was wondering... how does one know to distinguish hallucinations from reality? I mean, let's say that a person is hallucinating, but their hallucinations are "non-bizarre". That is: they aren't seeing anything overly unusual, like supernatural stuff. No demons, ghosts, aliens, or anything like that. But they're hallucinating.
Let's say that this person is out in public, walking among a large crowd of people. They meet a stranger, have a short conversation, and then part ways. Shortly after the conversation ends and this afflicted person turns and begins walking away, they overhear the person quietly mutter: "...fuck you." Maybe as the afflicted person was turning, they saw in the corner of their eye that the other person was smirking. But they can't be certain because they weren't looking directly at them.
Maybe that other person may have said, "thank you" but the mind misinterpreted it as "fuck you". Maybe that other person was talking to somebody else, about somebody else. Maybe that other person didn't say anything at all, and it was a pure fabrication of the mind. How can the afflicted person be certain that they weren't hallucinating?
What if this afflicted person has a somewhat unusual experience with no supernatural, paranormal, and/or conspiracy theory elements to it. This unusual experience was a full-blown psychotic episode, complete with hallucinations affecting all of the senses: visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and gustatory hallucinations... the afflicted person assumes that this experience really happened in the physical world, in reality, among other real people who saw the same exact things so that there's a consensus that everyone can agree on.
So this afflicted person goes about their day assuming that this experience really happened. But then they start meeting with other people and talking to them, and they start saying things that don't agree with what the afflicted person experienced.
An astounding 10% of old people see hallucinations.
The ability to distinguish them from reality depends on where in the brain the problem is.
Most have no feeling that the hallucinations are real, since the glitch is in the visual processing part only, not the part that deals with emotions.
Sacks gave a lecture on this.

It sounds like you're describing "delusions" rather than hallucinations. They're ambiguous in nature and are perceived to be very real, not like a generic hallucination brought on by drugs or Charles Bonnet Syndrome, where cartoonish faces/figures are seen in areas of low-light and immediately distinguished as non-real by the individual.
Schizophrenia is a hallmark disease that produces delusions in patients.

>It sounds like you're describing "delusions"
