It's a marketing ploy on the same tier as your typical kickstarter campaign.

1. Make promises you can't deliver on so that space geek cream themselves.
2. Make flashy video showing a product that cannot possibly exist.
3. ???
4. Profit.

From what I hear, many employees at SpaceX stay there 2-4 years. So within this 6 year period, most of the employees will have been replaced 2 times over. How can you build an inter-planetary spaceship when half of your employees have only been working on the project for 2 years?

What happened to science and engineering? Have we as a society diluted ourselves so much that we can't even see past a thinly veiled snake-oil advertisement? Fuck those backyardphysics youtube channels that allow this faggorty to happen.

Hey guys, I am a computer engineering student hoping to get my MS /PHD in Nano-engineering/Biomedical engineering. With all of the developments that are coming out both in the medical field and now engineering is being incorporated I have a theory that within the next 10-20 years humans will be able to expand their lifespans by 40-60 years.

Idea:
You have self replicating Organic Nano-bots that live off of the environment around you.Thermal,etc. They are constantly fixing, repairing and regenerating new cells so that your body doesn't slow down and age.Without them of course you would, but with them you would age very slowly. Helping fix organ failures and kill deadly bacteria. I think NB's are the way of the future.

Second proposition is having bots that can sustain themselves long enough and then they die/poop them out and then you end up consuming them again.?

What do you think about the idea .
I know its grandiose and seems really sci-fi but what would I need to take into account ?

Sure go ahead and make a NB with the capacity to do any mechanical work.

I'm of the opinion it's easier to program bacteria to do our work for us instead of making NBs.
>>
>>8376898
Ok so how do you make self replicating Organic Nano-bots?

>> live off of thermal
No.

>> Fixing, repairing, and regenerating cells
How?

>>8376948
Ok go ahead and program bacteria to do this. First off, how are you going to get them to avoid the immune response? Second how do you coordinate them to get stuff done?

Couple weeks into calculus 1 now, doing well, already past the chain rule and beyond. Quotient rule was a joke. Product rule remains my specialty.

I ask my professor his thoughts on quantum mechanics and partial derivatives. He's impressed i know about the subject. We converse after class for some time, sharing mathematical insights; i can keep up. He tells me of great things ahead like series and laplacians. I tell him i already read about series on wikipedia. He is yet again impressed at my enthusiasm. What a joy it is to have your professor visibly brighten when he learns of your talents.

And now I sit here wondering what it must be like to be a brainlet, unable to engage your professor as an intellectual peer.

All of the deep conversations you people must miss out on because you aren't able to overcome the intellectual IQ barrier that stands in the way of your academic success... it's so sad.

My professor and I know each other on first name basis now, but i call him Dr. out of respect.

And yet here you brainlets sit, probably havent even made eye contact with yours out of fear that they will gauge your brainlet IQ levels.

A true shame, but just know it is because i was born special that i am special. I can't help being a genius, nor can my professor.

Two of a kind is two flocks in a bush.

I've had it... I realized that I can't fucking make a computer work properly anymore...

Why the fuck every computer is now designed to suck up so much fucking memory on just running itself???

I just got a lenovo e540 with a 2.4 quad core processor and 4GB RAM, and this shit can't even run a fucking java script...

There used to be a time when I was able to download drivers and shit to my computer so it performed better and it worked... but now all I find on the web is a bunch of fucking bulshit articles that makes me wanna shoot myself, revive and shoot myself again.

Bottom line... any advice?

How do you deal with lack of motivation?

I think I must have a bipolar disorder or something. One day I will feel fascinating by what I'm studying - I feel almost in love with the subject, and I want to learn as much as I can about it - while on other days, I wonder "what's the point of studying this?" On these low days, the subject seems to be intrinsically boring to me - which contradicts how I feel about the subject on my good days - and I wonder if my interest in the subject is real or if I'm just pretending to like it because I need to hold value in *something*. Perhaps this feeling comes from a life-long conditioning of a perception that intellectual pursuits are boring - they cannot be interesting.

Has anyone else had similar experience? How do you handle it?

Can anyone recommend me textbooks on Astrophysics I can read?

I want to see if I can understand the stuff because I find it really fascinating, and if I can understand it, I may consider going to get meself educated in it.

Canadian in Alberta, if that helps.

I was looking at An Introduction to Modern Astrophysics (2nd Edition) by Dale A. Ostlie and Bradley W. Carroll, but I was wondering if there were other ones I should keep an eye for.

Many thanks. Have picture of cutest actress.

That's definitely the best one in my opinion. If you're really interested in astrophysics I would recommend studying stuff on particle physics and thermodynamics. That stuff is just as essential in astrophysics as SR and GR.
>>
>>8376182
Thermodynamics and Particle Physics, eh?

Sounds good. I was looking at MITOpenCourses.com at some of those things.

Are there any good books on those?

Also, what's a good starting point? Should I start with normal physics before I go into particle physics? I'm assuming it's the same stuff, just on a tiny scale when it comes to Particle Physics(because particles are tiny, yeah?)

can anyone explain why (speed of light) ^2 ???

practically speaking why and how would that be so? Secondly, and only if you can establish the above... how in the heck did Eisenstein come to realize it?

My worrisome fear is that its just a trick of mathematico's and no one on this planet can (or will be able to) properly asplain.

tl;dr there is a direct relationship between mass and energy.

Read the fucking Wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass–energy_equivalence

Einstein wasn't the first to observe this, just the first one to explain it accurately fitting with all current understanding of physics.
>>
>>8376103
It's not a trick of mathematics because in physics and other related sciences you are always looking for a value and solving. In mathematics, it can be arbitrary and you're just looking for a proof that a relationship can be true.
