Does our universe have a hard limit for biological intelligence? Is it possible that human-level intelligence is about as intelligent as a life-form can be?
Or is it still possible that an alien species can exceed human-level intelligence by an unfathomable amount (e.g. IQ of 10,000 or something)?

>Does our universe have a hard limit for biological intelligence? Is it possible that human-level intelligence is about as intelligent as a life-form can be?
Yes.
>Or is it still possible that an alien species can exceed human-level intelligence by an unfathomable amount (e.g. IQ of 10,000 or something)?
Yup.
why don't they just create a massive brain like creature via genetic engineering and find out.
shouldn't be too hard. imagine a massive brain connected to some kind of I/O device.

Why ask questions with no definitive answer.
Hope this board gets deleted in the upcoming purge, it's a fucking cesspool.
>total of 16 hours of sleep over 4 days
about 4 hours a night
miles of walking and mental strain all four days as well
am I at risk of harming my body somehow?
keep doing it and find out
naw you'll be fine keep up the good work
>>8396385
just one little blood clot...
My girlfriend often tells me that when I spill my semen over her body.
Because you're relaxed from a good night's sleep.
>>8396350
Actually, this is a sign of penile cancer. It's most likely terminal anon, I'm very sorry.
Since you spend all your nights getting fucked in the ass, the pendulum motion of your testicles adds some mechanical energy into your sperm, finally heating your semen up by a small but measurable effect. Enough, at least, for your estranged girlfriend to notice after you've come home from the "bar" i.e. bath house.
So let me see if I have this right.
It goes
>organic compounds>single-celled life>simple muticellular life>primitive worm-like creatures >first "fish">placoderms>jawed fish>lobe-finned fish>primitive tetrapods>primitive amniotes>synapsids>therapsids>"cynodonts">true mammals>"purgatorius">adapids>primitive monkeys>monkey-like apes>hominiform apes>terrestrial bipedal apes>ancient humans>modern man
Correct?
>>8396329
There are more details you could insert, eg self - replicating compounds, multinucleate single 'cell' life, etc. But what are you asking exactly? Any list like yours is probably going to come across as bait for an argument.
>>8396422
Mainly just wanted to see if I had a basic understanding of our entire origin.
>>8396329
>organic compounds>[MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF HAND WAVING]>single-celled life
Do you people think Kerbal Space Program is a legit base for learning some simple engineering concepts or not?
It's fantastic for teaching an understanding of orbital mechanics and how rockets work on a basic level (staging etc.). Not much beyond that though, and some things may even lead to an incorrect expectation of how things work in real life (for example, rocket nozzles).
>>8396243
>rocket wobbles
>keep adding struts until it stops
Kerbals Space Program provides a realistic simulation of being an engineer.
Bump. Any good tutorials to start on this game?
Sup /sci/, can someone help me differentiate from first principles the function g(x) = 1/1-x^2?
Having a little trouble with it. Pic semi-related
>>8396152
g(x) = 1/1-x^2 =1 - x^2
g(x+h)-g(x) = 1- (x+h)^2 - 1 + x^2 = -2xh-h^2
[g(x+h)-g(x)]/ h = -2x - h
let h be infinitesimal
g'(x)= -2x
why the fuck is computer science lower than law and statistics, and on the same tier as fucking life science? Everyone who makes those stupid charts is retarded.
you moronic fag how fucking dare you put physics fucking engineering you inbred peace of shit
I'm just a dumb layman, but it seems a lot of renowned, respected scientists are more and more buying into Simulation Theory.
What does /sci/ think? Is any of this real?
>>8396091
>Is any of this real?
No, it's all simulated.
>respected scientists are more and more buying into Simulation Theory
probably just shills paid to promote the upcoming release of the matrix trilogy in 4k quality or sum shit.
>>8396091
>renowned, respected scientists
black science man isn't renowned nor respected
>>8396091
A ton of evidence points towards it. Take for example the transition between micro and macro, which is much like walking towards a distant character in a videogame and higher resolution textures/eye candy effects being loaded as you get closer. An atom behaves according to QM, but a billiard ball does not behave like 10^24 atoms, it obeys Newton's laws, a vast simplification. Much like in the analogy, we do not need such a high resolution once we zoom out.
Then there is the fact that non commuting variables share a precision according to the uncertainty principle, as if they're regulated by one set of floating points or something.
In another thread an anon even came up with a way how you could save on RAM by modeling things with waves instead of particles, which could be what the duality comes from.
Now the important part is finding ways to determine for sure if we're in one, by finding glitches and such.
Will technological singularity doom us all or bring humanity to the next stage of evolution?
It'depends?^^
I guess the question is not if, but when.

Is their a name for thinking less of someone based on their language fluency? It must have a phenomenon name.
E.g. my coworker's second language is English and they're not very good. Despite me knowing this, I think they have a sub-intelligence.
>>8396049
I don't know the name for it but i instantly think people are sub-human when they do shit like use their instead of there.
>>8396065
I'm tiered anon, leave me alone.
>>8396068
Your english is not as great as you think.
Do I think you are sub-human because of that?
Yes
Does it matter?
No
/Sci/ whilst I understand that some of you respect the measurement of intelligence quotient and some of you do not, I remain reticent. What I care about, is the use of increasing one's IQ for the purpose of promoting efficient cognitive patterns.
Therefore, I ask those of you with the knowledge of how to do so to enlighten me with the requisite information required to start on both a physical and mental training programme as to better myself before I become too old, too slow and too complacent.
The information I require is as follows: brain training software, using practice IQ tests; nutritional tailoring (promoting both general physical and neurological health) and the efficacy of supplements (including nootropics), surplus information would be welcomed also.
Helpful information about myself: as for neurological conditions, I am diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome and was diagnosed in my youth with ADHD, though upon last review several years ago the practitioner considered the diagnosis spurious. As for use of supplements, in the past I have tried nootropics (Noopept, Pramiracetam and Alpha-GPC) and am currently a chronic user of caffeine, something I am trying to rectify into normality.
Thank you for your time; if you require any further information to make informed judgements, do not hesitate to ask.

What's the criteria for getting into grad school for math/statistics?
Some goober I used to work with did undergrad english but just got into a mathematics & statistics MS.
I only have a minor in mathematics but would like to go to grad school for that subject or statistics. Do I just have to take prereq classes?
Depends on the kind of masters degree. I only had a Bachelor of arts in sociology and still got into a Msc survey statistics cause I had lots of survey methods / data analysis courses.
It's usually listed on the homepage
>>8395961
>Depends on the kind of masters degree.
You mean MS vs MA?
>>8395961
Ideally it would be applied mathematics or applied statistics.
so i was wonderin how the different diffraction off different wavelengths occures.
now i know how a diffraction gratin functions (positive/negative interference)
but i'm having difficulties applying this to a prism.

Any easy way to manually work this out or just keep making educated guesses till you find the number that fits?
>>8395845
1) rewrite with your fraction bar being straight in the middle of your = sign otherwise this is unreadable 12-yo shit
2) repost new pic
3) choose good orientation
It's probably something like 1/(0.05)^2
But it could also be 4.

You've actually stumbled upon a famous unsolved problem in algebra. You'll probably have to settle for a numerical approximation.
Redpill me on food /sci/
So we all know we should follow that oh so famous food pyramid, but what about the ingredients?
My questions:
-Xenoestrogens: are they really that harmful?
-Clean drinking water: only through expensive personal filters?
-G.M.O & co. : How harmful, how much is too much?
- Sources general : Do you buy from supermarkets, organic stores or from your local farmer?
xenoestrogens are not harmful unless youre a developing fetus that receives abnormally high exposure
municipal water sources in the united states are potable excepting infrastructure failures
gmos arent innately harmful and nobody produces dangerous gmos; worry more about antibiotics in meat
i shop at both a large supermarket chain and a local food cooperative
>>8395830
>So we all know we should follow that oh so famous food pyramid
>>8395837
Yeah i'm about to switch to butchers meat and lowered meat consumption in general.
I try to know my sources, was'nt too sure though where it would be important to do so.
Thanks for your post anon.
