I am great at algebra and geometry but i failed Pre-Calc. I had to drop out of college because i failed Calculus two times. Im pretty sure im shit at trig too. I don't want to be so fucked up at math anymore.

Taking Calc 1 this semester. So fucking easy, have a 100 overall in the class, lowest grade so far has been a 96 on one homework assignment but overall homework grade is so high like a 99.965% and exam overall is 100% so my grade is literally a flat 100. I'm 19 and can easily say if you struggle and get a C in this course you're a fucking retard, IQ probably on 107-111 lol. A grade of a B overall is understable to an extent, but anything less than that you probably should not be a part of the new world order.

Couple weeks into calculus 1 now, doing well, already past the chain rule and beyond. Quotient rule was a joke. Product rule remains my specialty.

I ask my professor his thoughts on quantum mechanics and partial derivatives. He's impressed i know about the subject. We converse after class for some time, sharing mathematical insights; i can keep up. He tells me of great things ahead like series and laplacians. I tell him i already read about series on wikipedia. He is yet again impressed at my enthusiasm. What a joy it is to have your professor visibly brighten when he learns of your talents.

And now I sit here wondering what it must be like to be a brainlet, unable to engage your professor as an intellectual peer.

All of the deep conversations you people must miss out on because you aren't able to overcome the intellectual IQ barrier that stands in the way of your academic success... it's so sad.

My professor and I know each other on first name basis now, but i call him Dr. out of respect.

And yet here you brainlets sit, probably havent even made eye contact with yours out of fear that they will gauge your brainlet IQ levels.

A true shame, but just know it is because i was born special that i am special. I can't help being a genius, nor can my professor.

Two of a kind is two flocks in a bush.

Is there scientific dollar amount where you see no difference in happiness? do people with 200 million feel jealous of someone with 2 billion? does someone with 2 billion feel jealous of someone with 20 billion? when does it end

They probably feel envious, yes. I don't think you make a few hundred mil without caring about the process of making money even if the happiness gained from what the money can give you is minimal.

Is polyphasic sleep a meme?
I've been reading about the biphasic/polyphasic sleep method and I want to try it in order to be more productive (specifically the biphasic method, sleeping 4 and a half hour and then 1 and a half to sleep six hours in a 24 hours period) but the thing is that I'm busy at the moment and experimenting with something so important like the sleeping hours cannot be a good idea, so: Have you tried something like this already? What's your experience with kind of practice of sleeping? Some proved damage this kind of practice can do to your body? Any other idea of how a schedule with the biphasic method can be?

I'm kinda used to sleep 6 hours as a minimun amount of sleep in a day (in a row, of course).

Do you think it will be hard to get used to sleep the same amount but in the schedule I'm planning to use?
>>
>>8399052

Biphasic Sleep is better. polyphasic is practically impossible unless you are a NEET who has all of his time to himself. And it has to be done carefully. I usually sleep about 6-7 hours a day from 2-8 am. Thats all i need and the rest of the time is spent doing work

Would creating strong AI be unethical?

I mean, we always say that we shouldn't transfer our minds to a robot body because we would probably go insane due to the lack of sensory input. Wouldn't an AI have that same experience (assuming the AI is an emulation of a human brain)? Isn't it wrong to force anybody to go through that kind of torture? Could this cause the AI to retaliate against its creators?

I don't post in /sci/ often, I just come here once in a while. In my sparse visits through the last few years I have seem a few anons who were interested on slowing aging and rejuvenation.
I am a 4th year bio major, but I have been reading aging related papers for 6 years and had the opportunity to work in a famous anti aging lab in the US for a brief period and I am currently working in a small lab in Brazil in anti aging as well. I don't like to display personal info on 4chan so I will not give a lot of details, it's just so you know I have actual experience with this.

in this thread I invite all anons interested in the topic to discuss what you are doing, what you have learned and wish to learn about this wonderful field of science.

There is one thing everyone unfamiliar with the subject needs to know first:
this kind of research is very different from the medical approach given to aging so far. thanks to numerous treatments, sanitation and healthcare, we are able to increase our lifespan by a really nice amount. but right now, doctors see aging as a natural process and simply aim to treat the pathologies that come with it, without focusing on the common causation of all these pathologies: senescence.

The only widespread preventive action recommended so far is healthy diet and exercise. The proposition of anti aging, however, is to use drugs or other treatments to slow the process of senescence itself, not only increasing lifespan but the healthspan of living beings as well. There are A LOT of studies that were successful on delaying senescence on HEALTHY mammals so far, and I will try to post as many reviewed articles as possible, as the thread goes on, as well as tell you the political gossip that influenced the field as well (for you freshmen, know that political views DO influence what gets accepted as fact or gets funded in science. suprised?)

for patient and scientifically lectured anons, here is a great article to start getting into the field:

Didn't we just have a thread like this with "Is ageing going to be cured before I die" 2-3 weeks ago, and the SENS thread which died yesterday?

Anyways good luck on creating indefinite lifespans for humans anon.

I think so. Schizophrenia occurs when the brain is flooded with dopamine but in a massively unorganized fashion - resulting in the confusion known as psychosis. Basically it's the opposite of clear and powerful concentration in untreated individuals. My idea is that in a stable individual medicated with an antipsychotic such as Risperdal have the individual drink high amounts of coffee every day while trying to solve extremely difficult science problems without writing anything down. Have them, wake up, shower etc. then go on a long run and then for 10 undisturbed hours concentrate very hard for a long time on 800 set of difficult graduate level Mathematics problems - only taking breaks to go to the bathroom and eat food, but even so still thinking about the problems. As a schizophrenic myself I've noticed a significant decrease in symptoms by doing this. Basically the goal is to increase the power and size used of the brain to live a high functioning scientific and socially rich lifestyle. Then decrease the dosage of medication slowly and increase the difficulty of problems, effectively resulting in a powerful brain capable of extreme focus, clarity, and visualization of problems that require planning and organization.

The same concentration technique involving sitting down and attempting the solution of a extremely difficult math problem without writing anything down could be use to develop photographic memory in individuals who previously didn't have it. It's really very amazing what motivation and goal-setting can accomplish in a life.

Post original thoughts and discuss.

I'm schizophrenic too but I'm not sure how this can help with bipolar symptoms.
>>
>>8398666
It's just increasing IQ indefinitely. Highly productive geniuses in the sciences almost never have social problems because they're too busy practicing hard thought 24/7. I think that if we just turn mentally ill people into scientific workaholics then much of the mental health problems we see today would be gone.
>>
>>8398661

It is possible but we just don't know how. When schizophrenic people get older, a lot of the time symptoms/hallucinations become alleviated for unknown reasons.

Two solutions :

- They are far far far away.

-Or when you have the scientific capability to explore others planetary systems, you are smart enough to not interfere with lower civilizations and you are smart enough to not be a warmonger.

Memory allocation isn't hard, faggot. You literally just count up the "news" and the "deletes" in your code, and if the numbers don't match up, just add a few to the end of your main function to even it out.

I feel like I can solve P Versus NP if I just drink a lot of coffee and think about the problem for a straight 12 hours every day sipping coffee without writing anything down. But I get nervous every time I drink it. Is it feasible that if I just do as I just described all the related physics of the action of drinking coffee and thinking about the problem will help me solve the problem faster? Also after a few days of thinking about these unsolved problems in Mathematics and some of the Putnam exam problems I could literally hear my subconscious say "Nothing but the problems matter" over and over and could literally feel my brain become more efficient in nearly every aspect of my life such that only Mathematics and the sciences was important. Post advice related to this kind of thought and similar methods of working through problems that require massively hard and rigorous thought.

>>
>>8398500

P vs. NP doesn't really require that much rigorous thought to understand or even attempt to solve. I guarantee you, however, that taking stimulants alone will not be enough to solve the problem. Plenty of computer scientists and mathematicians use caffeine and other stimulants to increase productivity.

There are two ways to solve the problem:

1) Constructive proof for P vs. NP: come up with a clever trick that admits a polynomial-time algorithm for an NP-complete problem.

2) Non-constructive proof that P = NP or P != NP: learn all there is to know about the field of computational complexity. Then, find a clever trick that allows you to conclude that there exists a problem in NP but not in P.

>>

I have some intuitions similar to this. I feel like I'm definitely going to solve it soon. I'm going to make a YouTube video of a presentation of my solution. Kinda cool but kinda nervous. I'm going to buy a cool expensive suit for my video demonstration. Gotta look fancy if I'm going to be on-line.
