I'm a CS major and I passed real analysis with a decent grade on my first year. (The course was provided by math department)

Hi, I got a little test for you.

Rules are simple:
The sequence below was made with a rule in mind.
Find out the rule before thread limit.

On 9 or (dubs or higher) I will post 4 more numbers.
they will all work by the same rule.

{..., 509, 514, 518, 524, ...}

Good luck

How much of the concerns regarding meat consumption are legitimate?

I'll list several below to discuss. My main reason for asking is that most of the scholarly articles are too far out of my domain and the lay resources are all very clearly pushing an agenda one way or the other.

Production of live stock is bad for the environment?
-> And follow up that specific livestock (usually "red meat" is worse in this regard than other kinds of meat?

Meat consumption is antithetical to having a healthy diet?

Obviously most things are fine in moderation and most things are bad at overconsumption, but can you eat meat as a staple (2-3x per week) and still be healthy?

Animal agriculture, and especially cattle farming, is a major contributor to deforestation in Latin America and in general is a very intensive land use. It can take nearly 900 gallons of water to produce a single pound of beer, and cows release large amounts of methane into the air. Disposing of animal waste is also difficult, and in many places it's done simply by having artificial shit lagoons that have a tendency to seep into groundwater sources (more common with hogs than cows, depending on the location and method of farming).

As to the meat is unhealthy point I think red meat has been labeled a carcinogen by the WHO but I dunno if that's a meme or not. Certainly it is possible to be healthy without eating red meat, and most dietary studies seem to indicate that diets high in veggies, nuts, whole grains and fish and low in red meat are the healthiest.

You could probably eat meat as a staple and be healthy depending on exercise levels and the rest of your diet, but reducing meat consumption is a positive for the evnironment in addition to any personal health benefits

Beef I meant.

Also I didn't mention that large scale animal raising also tends to exacerbate the problems of crop monoculture we have in the USA, but I dunno if that is true worldwide or if it is inherently bad so I didn't mention it above.

don't worry about it. Now that trump is elected president we don't have to worry about the environment any more

This is 22 year old Jyoti Amge, the world's smallest woman.

She's literate, articulate and emotionally mature enough that she clearly has at least average intelligence, perhaps even a bit on the clever side. How is that possible when she must by necessity have dramatically less brain tissue than a normal sized person?

Assume that we have a rod extending from the equator on Earth into space. (For the sake of the argument, assume the rod is as strong as theoretically possible and extends through the earth out the other side an equal distance to maintain the balance of the Earth's rotation) If we could make the rod long enough, what forces would stop the tip of the rod from traveling at a speed faster than c when earth is rotating?

Calculating, I get:

---
c = 299792458 m/sec

1 light day = 25902068371200 m (this is also the circumference of the circle needed for the end of the rod to be traveling at the speed of light over the course of 24 hours)

---
pi(d) = 25902068371200 m (get the diameter of circle above)

diameter = 8244884435161 m

radius of rod = 4122442217581 m = 4,122,442,218 km

---
Distance to Neptune = 4,700,000,000 km

---
Maintaining Earth's rotational speed, we would need a rod that extended out from the equator 4,122,442,218 km (somewhere between Saturn and Neptune) for the tip of the rod to be traveling faster than c. If you have something that rotates faster (Jupiter for example, or millisecond pulsar), the distance you need for the rod is dramatically decreased. I get the distances are insanely far, but it's infinitely less than infinite.

So where's the weak point. Would the atoms break apart in the rod, or would the earth's rotation slow for some reason?

>>
You're thought experiment a shit.
>>
>>8477711
The rod would break, or bend until the tip is within a sub-light orbital range.
>>
pretty veritasium discussed this in one of his videos. The conclusion is even if you could invent some super strong material that'll NOT BREAK no matter what, it still won't break c.

Find a flaw.

There is nothing stopping one "kind" from turning into another because "kind" is not a genetic limit, merely a categorical meme.
>>
>>8477601
Example please.
>>
>>8477604
Any complex living creature alive today is an example, as it has evolved from something not of its "kind." We have traced the changes from protozoa to man in a continuous line of morphological changes and corresponding genetic changes. We don't find neat little bins, instead we find a massive tree whose roots connect all the way back. So this idea of "kinds" is both empirically and theoretically false. If you accept that genetic change can accumulate to turn one species into another then you must also accept that one "kind" can turn into another as there is no difference in the mechanism, only the amount of accumulated changes.

It's going to be me. Couple weeks into calculus 1 now, doing well, already past the chain rule and beyond. Quotient rule was a joke. Product rule remains my specialty.

I ask my professor his thoughts on quantum mechanics and partial derivatives. He's impressed i know about the subject. We converse after class for some time, sharing mathematical insights; i can keep up. He tells me of great things ahead like series and laplacians. I tell him i already read about series on wikipedia. He is yet again impressed at my enthusiasm. What a joy it is to have your professor visibly brighten when he learns of your talents.

And now I sit here wondering what it must be like to be a brainlet, unable to engage your professor as an intellectual peer.

All of the deep conversations you people must miss out on because you aren't able to overcome the intellectual IQ barrier that stands in the way of your academic success... it's so sad.

My professor and I know each other on first name basis now, but i call him Dr. out of respect.

And yet here you brainlets sit, probably havent even made eye contact with yours out of fear that they will gauge your brainlet IQ levels.

A true shame, but just know it is because i was born special that i am special. I can't help being a genius, nor can my professor.

Two of a kind is two flocks in a bush.

Science like art, and philosophy have no finality

The modern idea that science is more important than art is just because its profitable. In Renascence times, art was profitable and therefore seen as much more important than it is now. In the same time, people like Galileo, that spent their days looking at the sky trying to find answers were seen as people with just too much free time, because what finality does it have to know how the objects fall and how is the surroundings of Earth?
