statistics vs. pure mathematics as a degree/university topic of study
>>8493680
statistics is math you massive faggot
would you rather be a wizard of numbers and data-addict and be able to predict the future
or
would you rather study the purest form of numbers, pure mathematics, so you can prove your intelligence
statistics is a meme
machine learning is a meme
data science is a meme
I think I just caught my microwave leaking... as it was on a bag nearby was moving.
As I tested it on and off it appeared the running microwave was the culprit.
How fucked am I? And would it cause the plastic bag to move in a specific spot...? The end of your basic American bread bag...
Honestly? If you've had that microwave for more than a couple of months, I'd say you have about a year left. Leaky microwaves have been proven to cause colon, lung, pancreatic and brain cancer in 100% of subjects exposed to them.
>>8493459
Seriously? I don't even want to stand in the area to keep testing. I just noticed it for a second. Tried it on and off like twice and I'm pretty sure it was frying the corner of the bread bag..
>>8493466
Yep.
My wife dies from stomach cancer that was likely caused by a leaky microwave at her work. You want my advice, don't even go to the doctor. Just live your final days in blissful ignorance. Dying of cancer isn't nearly as painful as chemo.
Is IQ flawed? I mean, if I did a lot of IQ tests I would surely get better at them. What would be a better way to measure "intelligence"?
>>8493282
>intelligence
The problem is that we dont even have a clear/objective opinion of intelligence let alone how to test for it.
So really we should be asking: What is intelligence?
>>8493285
No we should really be asking pol to start asking "what is intelligence?" anyone who knows anything about the topic of quantifying intelligence know we dont even have a definition of intelligence from which we measure.
>>8493285
>What is intelligence?
An innate ability to acheive a favorable outcome to your pursuits
For my Differential Equations class we have to write a paper on an application of the spring-mass system equation. It doesn't have to be a spring and mass but it needs to use or be related to:
mx'' + bx' + kx = externalForce
What are some good ideas?
Look differential equations Braun.
>>8492650
Schrodinger equation.
>>8492650
AAAAHAHAHAHA
What is the most laughable degree in the scientific community?
>>8492619
360°
It's basically 0°
>>8492623
kek
>>8492623
You think this is funny you cheeky cunt?
>>8492303
Is there a single person on /sci/ that managed to self taught physic or math on bachelor degree level?
Is this achievable?
>>8492294
There are people who think they have.
>>8492294
For math absolutely, you don't really need any expensive equipment for it. For physics you're probably better off paying the tuition so you can access their lab equipment. It's harder to understand how things work from purely reading textbooks or watching videos but it's possible.
For sure. You're always self teaching, it's just about where you get your motivation from. Equipment is important too.
Usually after dinner I combine water, citric acid, and salt and then drink it.
Does this help in digestion or has it any positive health benefits?
Your body regulates stomach acidity, so no it does nothing.
It does literally nothing but waste your money
>>8490050
No its not doing anything
Want citric acid? Drink orange juice or take vitamin C supplements
>reality doesn't match theory
>make up undetectable particles to explain error
Why is physics considered a science?
>>8483963
dumb frogposter
>>8483963
In other news, only math is true science, and everything else are just varying degrees of pseudo-science that should be treated with varying degrees of cynism.

Post scientific proof that the "calories in/calories out" meme works
>inb4 thermodynamics
Bitch, I don't give a shit thermodynamics

I'm not even memeing, are you actually saying that I could eat 1500 calories worth of candy a day and I would lose body fat? Where's the proof of that?
it's bro science
go eat 2000 calories a day of ice cream for a month and have your friend eat 2000 calories a day of beef and compare results
What do you do when you get stuck on a question? Apart from feel sad about being a low IQ brainlet.
It's so demoralising to be stuck on the intro chapter questions
>>8494005
>Read question again
>Look back through chapter
>Take a stab at an idea
>If it succeeds beat one out in celebration
>If not look back over my working, correct the inevitable mistakes
>If that solves the problem go beat one out in celebration.
>Otherwise Google the book and look for an errata
>If that solves the problem, go beat one out in celebration
>If not, Google the question/part of the question/assumption see what comes up
>If that solves the problem, beat one out in celebration.
>Otherwise go to bed and cry
>beat one out in and go to sleep
>Start again in the morning
I'm being more serious than you might think.
>>8494288
>what do you do when you get stuck on a problem?
>beat one out
>100% effective
Kek
>>8494288
this
also realize that being a brainlet means nothing, succeed in spite of it.
My boyfriend insists this can't be solved without integrals.
I'll have to bottom for a month if I won't be able to solve it.
Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
>not enjoying bottoming
Also, putting arbitrary constraints on a problem instead of designing a better problem shouldn't be allowed.
>not enjoying bottoming
faux faggot spotted
if you assume that the situation is very poisson-y then you can model it as a queue with 10 servers, all currently busy and one customer currently in the queue.
look up M/M/1 queues and you'll probably find all the formulas you could possibly want already worked out by engineers
How exactly do nukes work? How do they release so much energy?
I've heard that the U.S has a device that can shut down the atoms in a nuke rendering it useless. How does this device work?
>>8493673
u can literally watch a youtube video. it's not complicated to understand.
>>8493673
>shut down the atoms
I have heard this meme before
>>8493732
You ruined a bait thread with great potential, i hope your're happy. fucking newfag faggot.
What if the captcha for /sci/ was a simple integral compute?
Would this solve the popsci and /pol/ problem?
>>8493613
yes, also the underage problem
>>8493613
simple integral to compute*
But you know what I meant.
>>8493613
It wouldn't solve anything. There are plenty of solvers online, making it a captcha would only make them even more prevalent for use.
How the fuck did jellyfish even evolve. What were its first stages of evolution?
Squirtle
Jellyfish, like dolphins, evolved from animals that once lived on land and returned to the ocean.
They are cousins of the sea pig, which evolved from the regular pig.
