What does /sci/ think about the suspected link between aluminum in antiperspirant and Alzheimers? Is the concept of antiperspirant even good for your body in the first place? I think if your body wants to sweat it needs to sweat, and clogging your sweat glands to prevent that can't be good for you.
Which do you use, regular deodorant or antiperspirant?
>>8507909
I've read about this, I used to put on a lot of antiperspirant because I hate the notion if emitting smells. Then I realised others don't give a shit about smelling like a hobo, so I switched to some organic crap that works like a charm
>>8507909
Regardless of it link to dementia, it is still a neurotoxin, and has no place in the personal care repertoire of anyone but the brainlet.
>>8508183
Same. I also switched cause I was tired of the yellow stains ruining my shirts. Most regular deodorants I've tried don't last long or give me a rash though. Oddly, I find Axe Stick to be the best one.
I never use antiperspirant and only have to put deodorant on maybe twice a week. I'm blessed. Washing my armpits in the shower is usually enough.
What does /sci/ think of cryonics?
>>8507661
Currently its an expensive way to kill yourself as we don't know how to properly keep organisms as complex as us alive for long that way
>>8507672
It's not legal to freeze someone who's alive anyway.
>>8507661
It keeps dead people from decaying for a long time
Realistically, can this book teach me stats?
No because its not as detailed as a normal textbook. But it will help reinforce ideas if you've already been introduced to them. It would maybe be smart and entertaining to read over a Manga Guide book after you've done preliminary work on a topic. Like this would be a good book to read toward the end of a beginner stats class while you're preparing for finals.
>>8507566
It will help familiarize you with topics before reading a stats book.
>Understanding that science and mathematics is extremely important to the human race =/= having the motivation to take part in it
Does anyone else face this and have no idea what they want to do? I see why it's so important, but I don't know where I want to involve myself and it makes me lose motivation and not give a fuck about any of it at the end of the day.
>>8506926
So don't involve yourself. If you aren't motivated then you are just a popsci faggot.
>>8506926
yeah the same
not everyone is going to be a scientist buddy
just enjoy vidya and animu

We have the energy technology to phase out coal completely, and natural gas could follow suite soon.
But how do we replace oil, is there any viable technology upcoming?
Some like to claim hemp oil as an alternative but I don't think that's possible
Take down the companies and lobby politians and get the media to support you
>>8506732
Is this a serious answer?
What I'm asking is what products or tech can we use to phase out oil in manufacturing plastics and other products, that are emissions free?
Buump
When mixing up chemicals, is the ratio by weight or volume? I want to make ANFO for when I go out shooting targets. I understand it's 5% fuel to 95% AN but is that 5 grams to 95 grams or 5ml to 95ml
Thanks
>>8508251
Look up molar mass
>>8508252
I'm an idiot. I'd just like the straight answer please
>>8508264
Neither volume nor mass. You need the same quantity of particles. Which is obtained through a think that's called stoichiometry.
But that's if you want to be precise. Otherwise just look up some tutorial that goes by spoons and mimic what they do.

I want to flip seija's tips if you know what I mean.
Also earth doesn't have three principle axes of inertia, so no

When is /sci/ going to recognize that philosophy is still highest academic field?
>spawned medicine
>spawned science
>spawned foundational mathematics
>spawned computer science
what amazing thing will philosophy do next?
Because philosophy is such a broad-ass term that it includes basically every field. On the other hand, what "philosophy" majors study are fields so shitty they don't have a real department (ontology, ethics, etc.).
You are really pushing it when you say philosophy spawned every academic field if you consider the history and usage of the word. Back then philosophy encompassed a whole range of academic disciplines and it's much different from the modern field. Philosophy, in its purest form is too broad to consider it some academic field. Everyone does "philosophy" because everyone can think, but obviously this isn't consider philosophy per se. The same way, philosophy nowadays it's pretty separated from the natural sciences even though both can complement each other.
Hey /sci/, I want to pursue a Bachelors in Physics. I realize that I have only just barely scratched the surface in with "General Physics" 100s level courses. What can I expect at those higher levels like Thermodynamics and Quantum Physics? I can't really be dissuaded from continuing this path, I just want to know what I am getting myself into. From what little bits of research I've done, it seems like the most troubling bit is converting word problems or concepts into math, but the math part is relatively easy given a thorough understanding of Calc. What advice would you give a budding/prospective physicist ?

>I can't really be dissuaded from continuing this path
there's a guy in my class who's a stoner and said he wants to major in physics.
the guy can't even study for his algebra class, and guess what physics is? physics is computing equations, it's not sitting around smoking weed and talking about space.
>>8508196
he's failing the class btw, but you should have inferred that when i said he's a stoner.
>>8508196
>smoking weed
Fuck that shit. Also, I am pretty decent at math, got through precalc without too much issue, considering that there were a lot of new concepts I wasn't familiar with.
Hi there /sci/,
I'm here searching for a quick advice/help if you don't mind.
I'm French, I'm studying Law but I want to get back at math a bit. Problem being I am so ungodly terrible the /sci/ wiki can't help, the first book (James Stewart's Single Variable Calculus) is way over my level.
Yes, it is that bad.
I used to be pretty good at math then I got a truly awful teacher who inspired me profound disgust for the subject for years.
So, if I were to start from scratch, from zero, where should I go ? What should I read ?
Thanks a lot.

Hello,
Here's what I would recommend for getting up to speed
https://www.puf.com/content/N%C3%A9cessaire_et_suffisant
It covers the terminale level (last year of high-school for the burgers) and then you can switch from other collections.

Thanks a lot bruh.
May you find your way on the Path
gabriel's horn is a solid of revolution with infinite surface area but finite volume
supposedly the converse, a solid of revolution with finite surface area but infinite volume, is impossible
i'm going to disprove this
consider the region of space outside a sphere
its surface area is finite because it's simply the area of the sphere, because the sphere is its only surface
its volume is trivially infinite, because n-space is infinite for all n > 0 and the volume enclosed by a sphere is finite
it's a solid of revolution, you get it by taking the region of 2-space outside a circle and revolving it about the circle's diameter
it's therefore a solid of revolution with finite surface area and infinite volume
problem calculusfags? u jelly gabriel?
Why do you gotta post this at 1 am, my brain hasn't woke up. I wish we disn't need sleep.
>>8508111
>supposedly the converse, a solid of revolution with finite surface area but infinite volume, is impossible
Imagine an infinite cube with a finite unit cube missing. The surface area is 6
This is sort of right. You've just defined the surface area of the sphere as a plane with two arbitrary sides so that you can deny one is "inside" and one is "outside". But then any arbitrary enclosed area can be said to "contain" infinite volume.
What was your freshman gpa?

Let's design a better adult incontinence system.
There is huge potential to make money and improve people's lives by improving the technology of incontinence management in a meaningful way. Especially for adults that need other people to manage their bowel movements. I'm talking real change here, not just "lol put a moisture sensor in a diaper durrr"
Cathethers for piss and poop bags are not new.

>want to major in Wildlife Sciences
>everyone else in by class wants to be an engineer, medical professional, or work in a hard science
The follow your passion thing isn't a meme right, and those AP gunner kids will switch majors or drop out while I major in something I enjoy?
>>8507702
The follow your passion thing is a meme if you aren't successful. If you get a good paying job in your field you're successful.
tl;dr Wildlife Sciences is a meme
>>8507702
Follow your passion within reason. I switched to Ecology from my originally planned art degree because I realized I wanted a job but also loved the field. It comes naturally to me and it's not super difficult so as long as you're willing to put the work in and do something useful with it then go for it. Try to get a GIS certificate or at least research under your belt.
>>8507702
>Wildlife Sciences
never heard of this before, isn't it just biology/ecology/zoology?
I'm currently going to school to be a microbiologist. I'm getting all my science pre-recs in so I can take as many classes as possible. Its going awesomely, but i'm slowly realizing that science is so much writing. I love what I'm doing and I'm not planning on stopping, I just really wanna know if theres some way to make all this fucking writing easier.
TL;DR: I wanna be a scientist, but I hate writing in any form.
>>8507600
There really is no way out of writing papers, especially in natural sciences and math (less so). You either get used to writing or go become a programmer.
>>8507600
Read as many scientific papers as you can. Topics in biology, neurosci and the more scienctific psych. The only way to become a better writer is to read, incorporate it into things like lunch breaks, cardio, riding on public transport. Luckily sci papers are easy to read on mobile due to their formatting.
>>8507913
i included the neuro and psych stuff because that is where the more complex experimental designs come in, and understanding those will make biology papers seem like pre-k work.
