Is studying Biology a meme? Can you actually find a job afterwards?
62 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
It's a popular degree because it includes most of the pre-med requirements, and it the easiest degree in pr-med programs. Why take harder Chemistry or Physics and have to take extra courses?

The problem is, not many people get into medschool, and use their Biology degree as a backup, oversaturating the field. If you want to do Biology, seperate yourself from the med school hopefuls by doing undergrad research, which none of them do.
>>
>>8509223
how do you get into undergraduate research? do you apply for a grant or assistant-ship with one of the profs? or just ask if they're looking for help?

I have been wondering for many many years, how would we know how others see the same colors, we teach that the color they see is a specific color, so they will always see it that way, but what if they see something like green as purple? We could never prove or disprove this in any way, as we cannot see exactly what other people see, and even if we did we might still see it the same as it could be a difference in the eyes.

all eyes are made about the same, so i think people see about the same color

Okay I see that now, but what if every brain percieves colors in a different way?

Didn't see one in the catalog.

Diffeq problem here:

How do you know to place these Rs into this problem? Above the black line is the first example problem I did, so I just figured "oh, U must just be the product of X(x) and T(t)," so I tried doing the second problem like that only to see that they took a completely different route. How do I know to do that? I feel like I don't get what U is on a conceptual level.

If something works under bad conditions, it will work under improved conditions.

E.g. if I can run at least 15 km/h, I can also run more than 10 km/h.

How do we solve the fat people problem, /sci/?

Most fatties know on some level that consuming less calories and being more active will lead to weight loss, and yet it hasn't achieved much
68 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
There are studies that show that, most people, once they reach a certain level obesity, can never go back to a normal weight.

The ones who do are basically miracles.
>>
>>8513401
Sign into law:

1) If you are over 18 then every time you go to the doctor your weight has to be recorded and that information should be attached to your name and uploaded to a government database

2) Establish a maximum healthy weight

3) If your recorded weight ever surpasses the maximum healthy weight then you will be contacted in some way or another by the government and be told that you have 1 year to put yourself back to the maximum weight and your name will be added to a list with the date your weightloss period has started

4) One year after your weightloss period started government officials will visit your home to measure your weight, if your weight is still above the maximum weight then the officials have the right to take you to jail and add you immediately to the death penalty waitline so that you can be properly executed

5) To avoid bribes and to make sure this law applies to wealthy people, a percentage of the wealth that was previously held by the now executed fat person will be awarded to the executioners. The rest will be divided between the government as "the tax for costing our health system extra, you fat fuck" and your kids , if you had any...

why can't I kill my sex drive and longing for romantic relations?
51 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
We were born to breed. If you distill it down, we're driven by just two impulses: survival and reproduction. You kill that, you kill half of what you are.
>>
Those are two separate things.

The emotional longing goes away when you fall in love for the first time and get your heart torn to shreds by someone you wanted to be with forever.

The sex drive never goes away unless you take anti-androgens or castrate yourself.

Best solution is to just jerk off quickly in the morning so you can concentrate on your work. Otherwise wear a condom every time you have sex and never believe a word a woman says.
>>
>>8513152
The emotional longing can eventually go away even if you don't get your heart broken. It just takes longer. It's actually one of the few real ways that men and women can become friends.

Since the earth is moving at 30 km a second in it's path around the sun, why doesn't the iss crash into earth when they are in front of the path of the earth?

Is Time a dimension or what? I'm trying to tutor and explain to my friend about how the higher the gravity is, the slower the time due to gravity bending the space around it therefore also affecting stretching time.

The whole "time is le 4th dimension xD" shit is a bit of a meme bu it is a dimension in the sense that it can be used to describe physical change independently of the three spatial dimensions, but it's not something we can freely transverse (yet?) like x, y, and z.

i think you know what people are going to say... both... in all likelihood... don't know any research on this but yeah...

i think more interesting is asking the question "what is laziness?". how do you classify or define this behaviour in the context of the brains function and the computations it performs? How do you distinguish it from other categories of behaviour we have that are similar or share similarities, both in expected and unexpected ways?
>>
>>8512253
>brain computations

DUDE THE BRAIN ID AN ANALYTIC ENGINE LMAO

the closest thing you can say about the brain is that it's approximated by a tm in P with an oracle in NP, which represents the qualia of the soul, but even that is wrong because the brain doesn't simply perform computations
>>
>>8512243

I had a discussion with my friend regarding an old WOW quest from 2007. He remembers it as expertly crafted by Blizzard to hide the grinding of mobs for reputation into smaller sub sections, but I remember it as a nasty grind. What we can't agree on is the amount of mobs a player had to kill to do the quest.

I arrive at 1107 mobs. In other words, each mob is worth 8.125 reputation.
He arrives at over 18000 mobs.

Who's right or are we both wrong?
55 posts and 14 images submitted.
>>
>>8511118
With each mob giving 5 rep and a perfect 2/5 mobs dropping stones you need to kill 334
>>
1667

rep / mob = 5 + 0.4 * 25 * 1/25 = 5.4

9000 = x * rep / mob -> x = 9000 * mob / rep = 9000 / 5.4 = 1667

When the people who study it stop believing that they're smart enough to study other fields of science and math.

So many of these faggots I know are """""""autodidacts"""""""""" who think they can learn anything just because they were able to learn a programming language all by themselves. You're not smart. Fucking kill yourself.

>High IQ kid like kid in OP
>Parents IQ 90-100
>Family income $25,000
>Attend rural highschool
>Highest math class offered is Calculus I
>Scores average on SAT (no tutors and no one in the school really knows what the SAT is/how to prepare for it)
>Gets into a below 50 State School
>Starts at Calculus II freshman year
>Takes maybe 1-2 graduate courses senior year

Even with same IQ as kid in OP, kid in OP will be considered more intelligent, successful and obtain more wealth than kid in this example.

Does anyone know what the source is for the clearly bullshit claim that the EM drive can get to the moon in 3 hours when it literally can't produce enough thrust to even lift a tiny fragment of its own weight?? All the clickbait news stories keep repeating it but I don't see where they're getting it from.

Also, why are modern people, with their easy access to the most immense store of data in human history, such god damned retards?
