I know how Java and C++ work. I know you can make classes and objects to split the code up and make the code more flexible and maintainable.
I know about arrays and recursion and sorting algs and all this other applied shit that you can use to make programs

But I don't have any actual experience making actual programs. Useful ones like game and calculators and apps and all that shit. And i have no idea how to get started.

So I'm asking for some resources on mini 'projects' that will let me get my feet in the water and actually know how to use all the stuff in a way that is effective and leads to an actual program.

And this is most important for objects. I know the concept objects but I don't know how to actually apply them. Once I tried making chess, and naturally I thought I would have an Piece object and then every time of piece inheriting from it. But even though I think I had the right idea, I didn't know how to implement it and what code should go where.

I can probably make chess in one class and it would basically be a loop that works while both kings can still move, but I feel like it would be a retarded program to write that most expierienced programmers would laugh at if they ever saw it.

Pls help, thanks /sci/

I'm not here to argue for creationism, but I am here to argue viciously against evolution--knowing in my heart and soul my duty to spread knowledge and information to the pridefully ignorant.

I mean just think about it: nothing happened and then here we are? Not very logical sounding is it? No, no, no, but is creative (somewhat) I guess I can say. I mean, if evolution was true, then the far reaching implications of that would be disastrous.

Here's something my granpops once told me: open a jar of spaghetti. Look inside it. Do you see new life? Are there new organisms crawling through the muck and into the air to breath? No, that never happens. And you're darn glad it doesn't, because if evolution were true, the entire food industry would collapse under the weight of contamination of new life.

There's just so many holes here... gosh. It can be mentally draining arguing with such a defunct and idiotic idea. I guess I just want life to be better, and people to be happier. So evolution, real or imaginary? Please do not be silly and choose to be an ignoramus.

Charles Darwins argues that "if evolution were improbable then it would fall to it's knees."

But the problem is that the history of evolution is riddled with improbabilties, or coincidences of chance.

We see complex novel orders arising one time, then never again even given a similar time-frame in similar gene pools.

We see it takes mitochondria and chloroplasts 1.4 billion years to evolve. We can use this is a measure of how long it takes for complex structures to arise.

Then it takes a mere 20 million years or less for neurons and the immune system to develop simultaneously, which are much more complex.
The nervous system never again evolves in placoans or sponges.

Then there is the mystery of limb regeneration, a very complicated genetic network which suddenly arises once and never again.

Then most telling there is the rapid evolution of the intelligence of man, which is unprecedented. A venerable miracle of evolution.

I believe God both used evolution as a method for producing his intended designs, and also had to intervene when evolution is an inefficient process. It might take 20 billion years for evolution to produce a nervous system from eukaryotic cells.

>This technology is currently in the latter stages of the proof-of-principle phase, with the goal of making the technology available in satellite engineering as quickly as possible,' said Li Feng, chief architect of the China National Space Technology Institute's communications satellite division."
>Li Feng said, Chen Yue team relies on national related project support, is carrying out engineering application of key technology research, for 5 years to achieve engineering applications, "we have mobilized microwave, structure, thermal control, power electronics, on-board electronic systems and other related professional Strength, to do this thing, although difficult, but we have the confidence to make.

they have almost nothing to lose by researching it

if it works, we have new tech

if it doesn't work, they've wasted a negligible amount of their national budget on it and they can sweep it under the rug and forget it ever happened

I go to UCLA, and I'm currently doing math major, trying to do the honors program there. I like it a lot, although my Analysis prof is pretty terrible, my Linear Algebra prof is a beast. I'm doing Complex Analysis Honors, Second Quarter Honors Real Analysis, and Second Quarter Linear. I'm enrolled in Differential Geometry but I heard the prof is a fuckwit, and the class is at 9am, so I'm probably gonna drop that one.

I've got a dilemna. I was planning to do the PhB program at ANU. It's a research degree and you basically get to work with people in Academia from the start.
However, I got a good enough score to get a full scholarship to Melbourne Uni. Melbourne is less appealing in that you're forced to do "breadth" courses similar to the American system. Can anyone at either of those two universities comment on what they're like?
I'm planning to do maths if that changes anything.

I go to Cornell for EE. So far everything is alright. I had a shitty chem class that I finally finished. Now I'm studying for my calc 3 final. I expect it to go fine after it's all said and done. I used to be in a shitty OO Java class but I dropped it because I didn't like the structure of that class at all.

hey guys i was wondering i was given this question by a teacher and im almost positive its not possible, at least at my level of physics. Almost positive its a prank question. The question is looking for work and ONLY gives the velocity and distance traveled of said object
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Then the force is zero. So is the work
>>
>>8542604
If it is moving with a constant velocity and no other forces apply, then there is no work done.

If the velocity changes, or it rolls down a hill, for example, then work is done.
>>
>>8542604
Acceleration is velocity divided by time...distance is v*t. Work is F*dist

Do probabilities actually exist?
Like if I say there is a 50% chance it will rain tomorrow, what does it even actually mean?
It's not like there is going to be tons of "tomorrow" out of which half of them will be rainy
13 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
In a deterministic universe there technically is no probability. It's only what we are unable to measure. Our current interpretation of QM does give probability and non-determinism as a property of the universe. However quantum events rarely affect anything we want to measure, like weather. Your weather prediction is based on imperfect measurements so it needs error factored in.
>>
>>8542040
Every event has a 50% chance of occurring. Either it happens or it does not. :)
>>
>>8542071
>However quantum events rarely affect anything we want to measure
don't they fundamentally affect EVERYTHING on every scale?
