Can you prove that? Im really unconvinced that we should just accept that, surely 'something' drives nuclear decay
dude it's science!
you can't argue with science!
what are you a stormfag or something!? haha!
>>8542556
I know youre just having a fun meme but I want to actually know if people have looked into this. It seems counter intuitive that there can truly be any randomness in the world
>>8542563
Simple nuclear decay is thought to be caused by quantum tunneling which is truly random. Quantum phenomenon are truly random.
An ball is dropped from 20.5m. It bounces once, falls back down, then bounces a second time to 7.6m. What's the max height of the first bounce?
>>8542421
Depends on the assumptions you make.
>>8542421
>an ball
>>8542663
Not on earth it doesn't.
What does /sci think about feathered Tyrannosaurus?
>>8542256
>tfw believed I could fly
>mfw I couldn't
Anythings possible.
>>8542256
It looks more real when comparing it to animals that exist today
Though, I'm betting the feathers were a lot bigger, and that it didn't look like "hair"
Giant chickens and shit
Perfectly reasonable evolutionary expectations for future humans. pic related.
>>8542092
Some people can actually control their stapedius reflex, we just need eugenics to breed them
>>8542102
I can do that. The contraction sounds like a sub-sonic low frequency rumble. But I want to be able to seal them shut. So bugs can't crawl in when I'm asleep. So when my buddy gets gun fever and fires off a round six inches behind my head they can reflexively slam shut so I don't go ear-ringing deaf for ten minutes. So I can create instant silence in any kind of crowd-related situation.
>>8542120
Buy some earplugs.
How do you reason someone who commits every logical fallacy, and cannot listen to arguments?
Ik someone who is a flat earther and every point I make all they do is shift the burden or just spit ad hominems saying I don't have eyes to see although I've actually considered what they've said.
>Mfw I have ears to hear
>Mfw I have a brain to analyse
>>8542046
Children are not allowed on this board.
>>8542046
>How do you reason someone who commits every logical fallacy, and cannot listen to arguments?
So basically, how do you reason with global warming believers?
>>8542072
Yeah, if you want, for me the context isn't really important I kinda want pointers how to argue better with the types of people described.
>languages do not become more simple over time, they retain complexity in other areas
When will this meme finally end?
It is obvious to anyone who studied a bit of history and linguistics that modern languages are but pale imitations of their archaic versions. English in particular is degrading exceptionally rapidly.
>b-but orthography is getting more complex
Yeah, but writing is a human invention. The rules of orthography are as complex - or simple - as we make them.
>b-but we have a bigger vocabulary
That isn't exclusive to us. Archaic languages had the capacity for that, along with their more complex grammar.
>science and mathematics
there isn't really much evolutionary favor to improving our language
>>8541766
>Yeah, but writing is a human invention.
So are the languages.
Your argument is invalid.
Also orthography is part of grammar.
>Archaic languages had the capacity for that
Which not one of them used.
Argument invalid again.
>Imaginary numbers are a pure product of the mind, literally not existing
>They happen to perfectly describe dozens of physical phenomenons
Do you think the 4th dimension is not actually time, but something we can only glimpse through the lens of pure math ?
>>8541652
>"Imaginary numbers are a pure product of the mind, literally not existing"
>mfw
>>8541652
Yes. We can also directly experience the complex geometry by using certain drugs.
>>8541652
"Dimension" isn't some mystical woowoo concept, it literally just means "degree of freedom (of movement)". We move thru time much as we can move thru height, width and depth, therefore it's a dimension.

Is no one else here seriously concerned with this? This is starting to look like a witch hunt on scientists who publish inconvenient findings.
I don't live in the US, but this concerns me nonetheless. We need to become vocal, because this is unacceptable.
>>8541562
I've read about it. I think Trump will have to accept he cannot deny a well stablished scientific fact. If he fires all the scientists that accept global warming, he will end with a Department of Energy made entirely of dumbasses.
>>8541562
>because this is unacceptable.
And what are you going to do about it, Spartacus?
>>8541574
Somewhat reassuring, but Trump isn't exactly the kind of guy who 'accepts' it if he can't have what he wants.
So I took the calculus 2 final, got an A in the class.
is 'calculus 2 being hard' just a meme?
>>8541532
It was a huge meme for me, I probably over prepared if anything.
General physics, now that's tough for some reason.
>>8541548
For me, the work load is the problem in physics.
Book homework
Mastering physics
Work book
hand-outs
Yes it's just a meme. Just get good at recognizing patterns for solving integrals and understanding how Series actually work. Literally was just evaluating integrals and understanding series.
My professor this semester had pretty bad English and was hard to understand, but if many of the students in the class took the time to ask questions when they had them, or actually study and practice, they should have ezd the class.
A lot of people aren't trying to understand the material, just go through the motions to pass the class.
My Calc II class this sem lmao:
How bad is sugar for you if you manage to stay normal weight?
If you eat it, you will die within a lifetime.
Almost all people who died have consumed sugar during their lifetime.
>>8541490
Being thin doesn't mean you're safe from diabetes.
Sugar isn't literally hitler, but it's best to stick with fruits and juices.
>yfw anthropogenic climate change exists

well don't just sit there posting anime girls, BE THE ANIME GIRL!
Look, mommy! I posted it again!
Can someone explain conditional expectations to me?
We have a probability space [math] (\Omega, \mathcal{F}, \mathbb{P}) [/math], and a [math] \mathcal{F} [/math]-measurable random variable [math] X [/math]. Now WHY THE FUCK is:
[eqn] \mathbb{E} [ X | \mathcal{F} ] = X [/eqn]
How the hell do conditional expectations with respect to a sigma algebra even work?
>>8541262
>this autistic circlejerk
>probability theory
>wondering why he doesn't understand anything
lmao
>>8541281
This thread is a no-bully zone.
because the sigma algebra doesn't give any information about the random variable.
why would it change anything?
wtf, I hate sexist Dick Feynman now!
"Well, someone only has to give me the principle, and I get the idea. All during the next day I built up my psychology differently: I adopted the attitude that those bar girls are all bitches, that they aren’t worth anything, and all they’re in there for is to get you to buy them a drink, and they’re not going to give you a goddamn thing; I’m not going to be a gentleman to such worthless bitches, and so on. I learned it till it was automatic."

What subjects should I study in university in order to make meaningful contributions to transhumanism?
Mechanical engineering? Biology? Both?
>>8541071
"Transhumanism" could include many types of human enhancement scientific fields. If that is your goal, then you should go with whatever interests you more. Biomedical engineering, Computer science, Biology will all play a role, eventually. However, there are no significant transhumanist research centres because there is little funding for stuff that aims to improve upon the normal level of the human condition compared to helping sick or disabled people that cost a great deal to the government, so I'd say don't even bother studying STEM just to engage in transhumanist research, you were born too early. Do what you like and get used to the idea of researching/engineering down-to-Earth non-scifi shit.
>>8541096
I'd suggest he goes with Bionics first, this way he could tackle both the restorement of mobility on crippled people and the upgrade of mobility on healthy people through application of what's learnt helping the sick
Then if he's fully bent on trnashumanism just pick another field related to it that he likes, say nanotechnology or bioengineering or something like that and start applying all that he learns to try and further the development of the human body
Personally I'd probably go for Comp Sci if I were him, it's our best shot at making our brains better which would easily lead to faster progression through all other fields of transhumanism
>>8541071
geology
Hey /sci what do you think about geology as science
>>8541018
Baller. Applied physics, chemistry, math, and statistics all in one. As quantitative or as qualitative as you're comfortable with. And compared to the sterile laboratory sciences, you get to go into the field, drink beer, and observe the glory of your motherfucking planet.
>>8541045
ah, to be naïve again
>>8541156
... and then to be unemployed. The bottom fell out of the job market with the oil price collapse.
Of course, for pure research there are many interesting things going on these days. Too bad te salary is the pits.
