Level: A little harder than last time - Still testing the waters.
Concepts used: Integration, Algorithms.

Goal: Create an algorithm to partition the start and end points of circles such that they can be ultimately used to integrate a given polynomial function. Think of the trapezoidal rule, except you take out semicircular sections from the trapezoids.

I do not get the question. Could you explain it further? Maybe an example of what you mean would be nice.

here's a problem i thought up today, it's probably pretty easy though

A is an anti-diagonal matrix in which all nonzero elements are the same scalar (call it x)
this is equivalent to saying A is x times the exchange matrix

compute the eigenvalues of A without using determinants or directly multiplying A by an eigenvector

challenge mode: do it without using matrix multiplication, with a single allowed matrix factorization

How would one go about creating and programming portals in the first place?

Is it even possible?

The reason teleportation is impossible is that it would take many times longer than there is time left in the universe to transfer all the unimaginably large amount of information that makes up a physical object, such as yourself
>>
>>8549651
the trick is to figure out exactly what information is unique and important
because that is the only information you need to transfer
and that reduces the work needed by 99% or more

But what comes out the other end? A computer program of your personality and memories? If so, where do I sign?

so why do people champion electric cars when the leccy comes from fossil fuels?
29 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>8549509
because it's feel-good shit like recycling anything but metal that has no real effect on the problems they're trying to combat
>>
Because most people just want to feel like they're making a difference.

A handful of retards buying electric cars made from fossil fuels isn't going to do shit. The only way for change (it's too late anyway) is for governments of the world to overhaul their infrastructure to force a lot of people to ditch using cars. At least when we're strictly talking about the carbon footprint of automobiles.
>>
>>8549509
Because they want to keep driving cars, even though giving up personal transport is currently the only viable long term solution.

Don't understand these correct answers.

For #8, it seems like each hump of the radial probability distribution represents an S orbital, and so it makes sense for the largest probability to be 4s. But that contradicts question 7, because the correct answer has the Hydrogen electron residing in the 4p. orbital which makes absolutely zero sense to me.

Can anyone hjelp clear this up? Thank you

So what the hell is going on with this poster?

If it's an earth size planet with the death star in orbit around it, there no way then their is no way it would look that big... At least in a stable orbit.

If it's in orbit around the Death Star it shouldn't have an atmosphere

>>

It's made by some artist who has no clue about physics, there you go.
>>
>>8548456
The death star is 120km in diameter and it's mostly hollow

It shouldn't really have any gravity of it's own, should it?

Anyone have that nice fourier transform animation? A bit like pic related but also with circles.

Also post cool science gifs so as not to waste a thread on this stupid question.

What backs up the concept of a permanent decrease in cognitive function, "frying your brain," using drugs, alcohol, not sleeping enough, etc? If so, what does it effect specifically? What I've seen from drug abusers personally is generally bad memory and lack of self awareness. According to an interview with a neuropsychiatrist, cannabis damages your prefrontal cortex, I'll link the video, can't find the study though.

Yes, of course drugs damage your brain permanently.
>>
>>8547508
No doubt. A simpler form of my question is more: how and why do they make you "stupid?"
>>
>>8547518
Imagine someone hacked your cell phone and caused it to discharge far more energy than normal, draining the battery, very soon it will switch off. Drugs have an equivalent effect on your brain cells, causing them to release neurochemicals and place stress on their supporting astrocytes, sometimes they can't cope and cells "switch off". Unfortunately when a living cell "switches off" it dies and most neurons can't be replaced.

Programming while knowing EE, math and computer engineering = god tier

programming while knowing only how to program = CS tier

yes or no?
78 posts and 11 images submitted.
>>
why do you want to know EE? it's not like it serves any purpose to the programmator. unless you are doing electronics
>>
I'm awesome at programming and electronics. It's impossible to find a job that lets me do both. Managers think everybody is a software guy or hardware guy. If they know you're good at one they think you can't do the other. Jobs that only let you use half your skills feel unfulfilling.

Yes, CS majors are brainlets so any EE/Math/CpE that spends the time to learn programming will do circles around them.

Most CS majors can't even make it through a quarter of these books.

Is that would be possible that two or more intelligent races evolve in the same planet?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>8550417
If they acted like humans, then they would probably end up destroying eachother.
>>
>>8550417
like dolphins and humans ?
>inb4 dolphins are not intelligent
they have electrosensors bitch
>>
If two intelligent species evolved simultaneously and inhabited the same regions of the planet, there would probably be tough competition for resources, and one would end up losing.

It's likely that this happened on Earth. There was interbreeding between the Homo species though, so it's probably more complicated.
