Space elevator is never going to happen, but what about a space stairway? Just walk right up until you are in space.

But that's an order of magnitude more retarded than a space elevator.

Op is a retard but i have a real question: what is the upper limit of building height possible with current technology? Apparently in Abu Dhabi they're going to build a 1 mile tall skyscraper, how much higher can we get? What is the theoretical upper limit?

embarrassingly wrong, try harder

Is it possible to do a research project on the side?

I have a regular full time job but I recently had a really good idea for a research project (won't share the details here). I wouldn't need any funding or shit like that, but I realized it takes a lot more time than I thought.

I already researched and found a ton of literature I have to read + all the stuff I still have to learn to be able to do it.. is it even worth it? Or better is it possible at all?

What do you have to lose by trying? It sounds like you know better than anyone else here whether its feasible.

Time is the problem.

By the time I am finished, someone else migth have done it already you know? Would be pretty fucking devastating to waste a ton of free time on something without getting anything out of it.
>>
>>8562409
You shouldn't bother then

Not because you can't, not because of any actual reason, but because you're here on 4chan trying to get people to tell you its okay to give up.

So clearly you don't want it and have already decided not to do it, you're just looking for validation for your choices.

So here you go anon, I'll give you what you want - give up and don't bother, don't try. Let your fear of failure or of getting scooped or whatever else it is hold you back. Someone else may very well beat you to it, or you might fail, or you might be wrong. So why bother? You're probably not good enough anyway.

I am asked whether the relation R, defined on the set of natural numbers is reflexive/symmetric/transitive by the usual a R b

So I have ab = 1

is this relation reflexive?

I thought at first it was, since that implies that a R a = 1 and it must since if ab = 1 it implies that a is one (they're in the natural number set), the only way to get ab = 1 is that a = b = 1.

But then I also know that it is supposed to work for any a in the set, and then clearly not all natural numbers a,b have that ab=1.

So which way is the correct way to think about it?

>>
its not at all clear what relation youre even talking about
>>
What's not clear about it?

The relation R is defined on the set of natural numbers by the definition a R b , a*b = 1

is this relation reflexive or not. What is it that is not clear about this relation.
>>
>>8562445
certainly not reflexive since you dont have a R a for any a>1

Everyone says the electrons flow from the voltage source through a load and then back to the voltage source. But I thought the point was that the load dissipated all of the energy? If so wouldn't there be no more electron flow by the time you traced back to the voltage source? Isn't the circuit more like a one-way road at that point (assuming DC), and if so why doesn't hooking one wire to a thing floating in a vaccum actually conduct electricity?

Electricity is fuckin bananas.

Think of the current as a flow of particles (amps; coulombs per second)

Each of these particles is holding a charge (voltage; joules per coulomb)

As these particles flow through the light bulb they are depositing their charge, but the flow is still going. Sort of like a toll booth on a highway.

Extremely layman and rudimentary analogy, but it's enough to get you going I guess

It's called intuition because it's imprecise and therefore formally incorrect as an argument.

How do i know i really have addh? Got told all my life by teachers that i was a underachiever because i didn't focus enough and was hyperactive. I have trouble focusing on stuff and learning new stuff, i have anxiety and feel hopeless alot also insecurity about tons of things, i also have a problem of getting addicted to stuff easy or not having moderation in feelings, being dramatic and exxagerating shit. A neurologist diagnosed me before however i took 600ml of coffe before seeing him and wanted the prescription but the neurologist as a kike doctor and didn't really seem to diagnose me at all, just wanted to make some profit.
I also procrastinate alot by rationalizing it and it drives me mad,
But i also think that not doing exercise, bad diet with lots of sugars and gaming+internet+technology+tv made my brain like this( per example i read multiple threads at the same time, i start reading till i drift off and it gets boring then i jump to the next one)
Even if i do have this, is it safe to take ritaline(only medication avaliable in my country)? What are its long term effects that google won't tell me? Is there a way to treat / cure it without using this shit?

Hi /sci/.
My parents bought me a Bonsai Tree as a gift for Christmas. I don't consider myself responsible enough to look after such a thing

I am now planning to write a fake journal article and tell them that I have access to these articles through my studies. The article will be discussing the negative reaction of Bonsai trees to being held in captivity. I am hoping it will convince them I should not have a tree so I can return it without issue.

I need the article to appear professionally written and to be convincing so they believe it. I have so far written a couple of potential 'excerpts' from the paper that I will show them. As these articles must appear Scientific, I was wanting you to look at them and tell me if you believe they are authentic in style.

[1] "Your immune system makes antibodies and releases chemicals to protect you. That causes the initial swelling."

For some random reason I was just googling what made the swelling when a mosquito bites you and apparently it's your immune system. Anyone knows what chemicals or wtv creates the swelling? I'm looking for a connection between mosquito bites and HIV since I assume it weakens your immune system it should also stop it from creating the swelling after you're bitten by a mosquito no?

>I'm looking for a connection between mosquito bites and HIV
HIV doesn't replicate in the mosquito's gut, so it would be very hard for HIV to be transmitted via mosquitoes. HIV targets your helper-T cells.

Maybe this might help?

You're talking about two different parts of the immune system. Swelling is not due to any cells but rather the chemical signals (cytokines, bradykinin and others) that make your blood vessels more permeable for your immune cells that are attracted through chemotaxis, the first ones are usually neutrophilic granulocytes which are part of your innate immune system. However since blood vessels are more permeable that also leads to a slighet edema. T-cells that are targeted by HIV are part of your adaptive immune system. I'm not sure it is that relevant anyway. I forgot what I was answering though, if you want to look into specifics follow the links above me.

Taking linear algebra next semester and I've got a month off for break, can anyone recommend ways to learn as much of it as I can in the next month (need an A)? I've already taken multivariable and diffeqs if that matters at all
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>8561810
is it the real deal? because if you've done multivar calc and DEs already you know the fake "linear algebra" already.

for the real deal, Hoffman & Kunze is my favorite book. very well written, easy to follow. do the first chapters and your class will be much easier.
>>
>>8561828

the course description reads:
>Vector spaces, linear transformations, matrices, systems of linear equations, bases, projections, rotations, determinants, and inner products. Applications may include differential equations, difference equations, least squares approximations, and models in economics and in biological and physical sciences.

Does this fit your idea of "real deal"
>>
>>8561828
