So NanoTrasen had a shitload of money and decided to explore. They founded Space Station 13 in the ass-end of nowhere in outer space. They found some plasma, and decided the station was profitable enough to continue. Then a bunch of chodefaces from this big group of NanoTrasen's rivalries called The Syndicate showed up and tried to destroy the station a bunch of times, and the Space Wizard Federation got all pissy, and a bunch of psychos decided the station was a great place to summon their god, Nar-Sie. And just when the crew thought they had the problem solved, these fucking bird jew alien things called the Vox showed up and started stealing shit. NanoTrasen has trained all its employees to consider all these things a threat.

The current year to 2XXX AD, several decades after the decommissioning of the USS Mk. V "Donut". The Mk. V G-Box outpost is NanoTrasen's latest and greatest research space station.

It has been roughly 75 years since the beginning of the Purple Rush. NanoTrasen, Semitic Military Industries, Dönkenhardt Raumfahrttechnik Ltd., and many other leading research contractors continue their struggle to develop and manufacture products systems that utilize this resource. And with this leap in growth, the drive for domestic production has led to the discovery of new lifeforms and sentient species among the stars. It is a brave new world.

Space travel has become a necessity. Governing bodies, wealthy civilians, private military contractors, and corporate entities all operate their own fleets. Large freighter ships to transport cargo from place to place, warships to defend planets and trade lanes from aggressors, and small craft for civilian transport/commerce are to be expected from any significant faction. Pirates are common and pervasive. They've formed groups like the Syndicate and often use cheap, abandoned or stolen assets to raid. Political groups have also begun to militarize, destroying outposts and annexing sectors to further their goals. Regardless of affiliation, most if not all human vessels and settlements are heavily armed with the latest in conventional and energy-based weaponry.

Fiat credits are used as currency among factions with NATO origins. They are represented by different figures depending on the region or affiliation. Credits are mostly electrical and direct deposits are often used to compensate workers. Paper money is also printed. Other entities such as the People's United Socialist Systems (Soviets) or Galaktischsozialistische Menschengeschlecht Arbeiterpartei (Nazis) function as gift economies internally while exporting technology and weapons to maintain their viability as states.
