How do you make friends with people in large classes? My CS lectures are filled with people, where people sit is always changing every single lecture.

Get a study buddy if I'm that desperate. It helps keep you concentrated but don't get a study buddy that you're attracted to because you won't retain almost anything.

I honestly almost never study so I don't really have to do it. I just pay attention in class and ride off of that and maintain like a 3.4-3.5 GPA.

I just finished community college and was accepted into my university of choice with classes starting next week. Problem is I was also offered a job that pays $32/hr starting. I'm 32 yrs old and can't do both and am at the point where I value the degree more to the point where I would actually take out loans for the next two years just to compete it. Am I being impulsive? All business fields are infested with normies not the best career path for a robot. I would go back and take up philosophy if I could but I fell for the meme that having a good career is more important than doing what you enjoy

My university just dumped a shitton into what is basically a containment building combined with an academic mansion for all of the "haha I'm gonna spend daddy's money" fine arts majors like theatre, music, etc. And it's nice. The dorms, theatre, classrooms, atmosphere, everything. They're top notch.

On main campus though, all of our STEM equipment is outdated. Our observatory got taken down because of politics for said containment building. Our spectroscopy equipment is from the 80's. Our NMR machine is on its last leg. We have to use a balance from the fucking 60's in the lab I work in to measure to the nearest 0.1mg. The history and social sciences buildings are pretty much death traps too. I got some samples from the former's building for my general microbiology class one year, and accidentally started growing black mold.

But that fucking fine arts building has our former University president's last name on it, so it got a disproportionate amount of funding under his direction. And our current one took out two parking lots (we also have a parking crisis, so that exacerbates it) to put in a car rental service.

They really are. From years of experience with them, I find them the least relatable people I have ever encountered at university. Most are perfect corporate drones. It truly reflects who they are as people, which is probably something they don't realize (not to sound mean).

I know I'll probably be forced to deal with them in a soulless career path if I drop out of my current program though. The problem is that my current program probably won't even get me a job since it's pure, and I'm just wasting my time. I should have done international relations or poli sci.

The education system is designed to churn out mediocre corporate drones like this. Exceptional people stand out regardless as long as their needs are met, so really I don't have much of a problem with this from a moral standpoint.

They want the average person competent enough to perform the necessary tasks for the megacorps, but too vapid and benighted to figure out how things actually work and seriously challenge the system. You don't want people who don't see the full context of things making major decisions. You need intellectually well-adjusted people doing that.

Is it pointless to get a history degree? Unfortunately I am terrible at anything that has to do with math so I can't do anything STEM related. I feel like such a loser because what I'm good at doesn't really matter and everyone makes fun of it.

Just the other day I had to drop an astronomy course because the description made it seem like it was more about concepts, it was for non science majors but the stuff was like "F = m1-m2/G" and converting degrees to arcminutes to arcseconds and stuff like that. I'm so disappointed. I really wanted to check out things in the telescope but I have a 4.0 and didn't want to ruin it. I feel dumb.

You have to know people to be employable with a history degree. You really only have three options, besides dedicating your life to research:
1. curator
2. HS teacher
3. consultant for media OR antique verification.
The last one is actually a big portion of history employment, from what I've heard. Pawn shops and auctions usually have several of those guys on call to make sure items are authentic.

I hope you're good at writing, though. History degrees are brutal. Don't get totally discouraged here, make sure to still talk with an adviser or something.

im assuming youre australian so i dont know how universities there select classes but youre supposed to select your classes when your school starts (usually during orientation). Then you have yourself a timetable because they tell you when your class timings are

Its my last semester and i feel like shit. I barely do the reading assignments, and only do the hw. I feel so fucking behind and because of that I don't want to start. I need to start reading because in the next two weeks there is going to be a huge amount of work to do but i know myself too well. I'll wait until the last minute then turn in a piece of shit assignment. I didnt ask to be born. I didn't agree to any of this.

Last week, the guy who was sitting next to me in my cs class was browsing reddit on the computer for literally an hour and a half straight without looking up at the professor. This motherfucker literally had a manbun, and looked like the reddit caricature in that average reddit user vs. average 4chan user meme.

It really distracted me from what the professor was trying to say, because every 5 seconds he would open up a new gif, and I was sitting behind him (relative to the professor), so I had to look past his computer to see the professor. At a certain point, the professor started broadcasting a powerpoint onto everyone's computer, which blocked out this guy's reddit viewing, so what did this plebbit do? He pulled out his phone and started browsing reddit on that.

I think the next time I go to class I'm going to start browsing /r9k/ while sitting next to him in order to assert my dominance/show my power level. Either that or i'll just sit somewhere else next time.
