I do have a cat, and I can attest. If I'm having a rough day, my cat will come to my room and start purring, rubbing up against me, etc. And she won't leave until I cheer up. Give 'em some food and water once or twice a day, scoop the litterbox before you go to bed, and they will love you to pieces. They're quiet and they'll only bother you when they sense you're bothered by something. Literally the best pet.

My cat. She is extremely affectionate when it comes to me. But she is deathly afraid of anyone else.

Had her since she was a kitten, she's almost 8 now. Almost no one has seen her in real life since she hides from them, so I have to show relatives/friends my photos.

if it doesn't stick around for more than a few seconds he may just be so antisocial that it's just not worth it. but if it stares back at you for like 10 seconds, try clicking your tongue and going "psss pss pss" kinda fast. Cats seem to react well to that.

Actually been looking into it pretty recently since it would be nice. Would be nice to have something around the apartment, but is the "low maintenance" really true? Part of me doesn't really believe that completely.

If you don't clean up their litter box on a daily basis they'll shit/piss on the floor . Also you need to wear protection when cleaning up their litter box or else you will get toxoplasmosis

They are high maintenance. They'll ruin your furniture if you don't provide adequate space and lots of toys. You also need a vet. Don't let them wonder outside. They'll end up getting fleas and you risk neighbors overfeeding your cat. Your cat might also drink bad water, kill native wildlife, or end up with a parasite from eating a mouse.
