The study sessions won't be the conventional teacher/student method. We're going to read a few chapters from a book per study session by ourselves and then I'll give programming assignments. Afterwards we'll do anonymous code reviews to see what everyone did and give input about what we think. (Totally anonymous so you don't feel ashamed)

Not them but you can make entire videogames and such run in a browser with such things. You can do fun things with JS because it's everywhere. I could sit here on an Android and program something to run on the Android and computers as well using only JS. Python is some shit that nobody needs unless they're making a hardcore virus, of which is why they've tried to ban python before in areas of the world.

But yes of course python is more sophisticated a programming language, but why would someone start off with something so much more complex? I'm no programmer, but starting with Python sounds like telling a virgin Linux user to start off with Backtrack. b

I dont have experience with anything hardware related, but I'm guessing you'll be working with micro processors so you'll want to know some assembly and C

Why don't you start with C? It makes it much easier to pick up a language like Python afterwards. And K&R's exercises are great.

Starting with C made it much easier for me to pick up other languages, especially C++ which I would've struggled with a lot more otherwise.

Also Python is more suitable for use as a high powered calculator and to make scripts to do things which is good for non-software people.
