Probably something to do with his effeminate nature and insecurity in regard to his masculinity that triggered his tranny feelings. There's all sorts of events that took place in his early life that have shaped him into what he was. His victims were probably men that he felt he absolutely contrasted with or was bullied by (still exists in the workplace) and lashed out due to his own insecurities and inability to speak up. It's possible he might've also been using art/animation as a medium to express these feelings/loosely validate himself and his ideas safely, however building up his delusion until, when he lost hope and his medium (animators quitting on him or just not finishing whatever stupid project he funded,) he finally had enough conviction and nothing better to do but kill people.

That's just my idea of why, though.
