never heard this once, and i've done extensive reading on the subject. also it is definitely not the case, at least for men, that their preferred age goes up as they get older. it's more accurate to say that they will TOLERATE older women as they get older because that's what they're expected to do by society. but the average man seems to be most attracted to women who are around 21-22 years old, as demonstrated by that OKCupid study.
