You SHOULD be happy (or at the very least content) without a girlfriend. A girlfriend is someone you share your happiness with, someone who shares her happiness with you. If the fact that you have a girlfriend is the only thing keeping you happy, it will only hurt that much more when she's gone.

Look at life as an ocean. Your happiness is your ship, on which you cross this ocean to the other side. When you meet the right person, you attach your ship to theirs and sail through life together. You should not ever get off your own ship, because when that other person decides to sail into a different direction, you'll be stranded and forced to build a new ship, or rely on someone else to pick you up.
