I want to be an emo kid more than I want to dj

Nowadays they dont do much. They just play mp3 files with a few fade outs here and there.

Early 2000's were the height of the hobby. When DJ's spun DnB and Jungle instead of this dubstep garbage.
>>
>load playlist
>switch between songs
>sometimes do something funky
>bang your head slightly with your left hand touching your headphones
>>
They pick out songs to play on iTunes, hold one end of a pair of headphones to an ear, and rock back and forth like an autist.

umm mixing jungle takes literally no skill
you pull the record up, have the MC shout something patois sounding thing into the mic and then you start the next record and when the base comes in you pull it up and play it from the top again.
it is by far the most awful mixing style there is and the music pretty much demands it

also that was early to mid 90s, but I can't expect you to know that.

>instead of this dubstep garbage
what do you even know about dubstep?

dnb is trash
>>
>>39240106

Have you ever listened to dubstep tho?

One of the best vinyl mixes I've seen was oldschool dubstep. The dude is way talented for doing something most people can't appreciate or understand.

>Dubstep
>Garbage

Harder to produce 50x more than DnB/Jungle, requires more talent (melodic dubstep for example)

Hating on dubstep is 2012. It stopped being cool right about that point.

What do Americans listen to in clubs now ?

>How to be a modern "DJ"
>make some shitty EDM or dubstep in FL studio
>Get nnoticed on soundcloud or jewtube
>get some gigs
>jump and wave your arm on stage while your music plays
>pretend to do things with your mixers and turntables
>collect money
Modern "DJ's" are a fucking joke. Compare early live shows of Daft Punk to some shit like Skrillex or that Martin kid

(Speaking from experience, I DJ at teen parties part-time)

Trap, retarded hip-hop, Big room house (one of the shittiest music sub genre ever made), Some electro house and big beat sometimes.

Dance music was always kinda low-effort, but normies are making it even worse somehow. Have you ever heard a big room house track? They all literally have the same structure, same synths, same sound and feel to them.
>>
>>39241107
You have not heard Skrillex' Boiler Room?
He's amazing when he actually tries, even if he's not entirely clean on a purely technical level.
>>
it's not that difficult to do, but to get anywhere significant you'll need good social skills and to play at a few small parties for exposure

my favourite genres are probably techno and dubstep but you have to cater to the taste of whoever you're playing for, which is most often meme house or rnb. a lot of the time is just spend standing around or fiddling with buttons desu
>>
>>39241235
He's a decent enough producer even though he ruined 'dubstep' for Americans even though Rusko and Caspa already ruined the fun for everyone and he somehow lucked out on getting an absurd amount of hype built around him over his first album which was like five original tunes and four different remixes of the same song. His live performances have always been banging away on a trackpad and Macbook Pro which has never been impressive.
>>
>>39240058
Push buttons and act like a huge fucking self-important pretentious jerkoff, basically.
>>
>>39240631
that track is garbage is what i know
>>
I've seen DJs playing three or four vinyles at the same time playing techno, shit is not easy to coordinate at all because obviously it doesn't consist at playing all the vinyles at the same time.
If you want to make your 2 hours mix coherent, with good, unexpected and light transitions between your tracks you have to train a lot.
