Why do Canadians do this?

same in bongland but without the massive roads/drives

That's depressing as fuck, bongs don't do this
>>39137397

Because we drank the red white and bluel aid.
Seriously I would love a house, instead where I'm from we do this.
>>39138422
at least you have something to jump off of when the reality of your situation finally sinks in
>>39138660
No need to jump, I live in a 450sq foot concrete tomb, only $1800/month.
>>39137397
Theres like a two mile strip between the border thats habitable, you have to make due
>>39137397
Are you saying there are no mcmansion communities in the US?
I like those long stretches of grass in between the houses.
>>39138811
Those aren't "McMansions".

But Bong houses are actually made of sturdy material instead of paper mache. I've seen videos from North American houses where people accidentally knock a bigass hole through their entire wall just because they fell on it or some shit.
>>39137397
they're communists
probably because of the red leaf

>bongs don't do this
Its even worse here because the houses are attached to each other.
Chinese will pay $2 million canuck bucks a piece for their chance to live with white people. It's a no brainer.
suburban sprawls suck ass.

we need more cities like Groningen, Netherlands (city is small and tight-knit enough that travel by foot and bike thrive)

That was not a funny joke.

So issues of problems of public transit aside, why is living in similar houses bad? Why is conformity bad? If every single human has a unique home, how much more would that cost? Furthermore, are you really so shallow that you have to define yourself through the things you can consume? It's great that houses can be made in bulk, cheaply, with green space for every one.
With that said, I am skeptical of "lawns", I'd much rather have a big garden. My parents planted trees.
TLDR: it's a meme to get triggered by conformity, people have been bitching about this since the 1960s and it's garbage.

Only issue I have with this is the backyard situation. I like a backyard with a fence and preferably an alley behind it rather than this open park thing. Probably families like this setup so the kids can roam around a bit between yards and still be in view.
I don't care about exteriors of houses being all similar. They're all similar even if there isn't strict zoning anyway just because uniqueness on the scale of a full sized house is very expensive to build.
Because there's a lot of undeveloped land that can be sold for a lot of money. Those houses go for at the very low end 500 000.. so it's logical to fit in as many as possible.
Housing costs in Toronto are insane. The only people I know my age (late 20s/ early 30s) that own a house here was mostly paid for by their parents. Others own condos and they're a joke. So small and so expensive

Canadian urban planner here.
The second generation of the profession (later boomers and gen x) started entering senior positions in the 90s and 2000s. They are for the most part a bunch of pompous euroboos who want to tell people to live in apartments and tiny shacks under the guise of saving municipal infrastructure costs and farmland space.
They also restricted the available development areas to drive up real estate values.
Naturally, developers are very open to this because they can build their paper thin flimsy frames on ridiculously tiny lots and sell them at sky high prices.
It's quite the scheme, really.

High-density housing like that is actually pretty efficient. Contributes less to urban sprawl, easy on the infrastructure, more room for urban vegetation.
